Hi and thanks for watching. This is one of many approaches to making a globe to finish a bell rope or to top off a Cat of Nine Tales handle. I hope this is useful, if so please hit the like button and share if you want. This is very similar to the 8 strand globe Des Pawson describes in his great book.
My cord can be bought from bloodknot.bigcartel.com

Excellent video! I wish I had seen this a long time ago. lol. Your way of breaking down the fancy Crown was very smart. I learned this knot and others like it, The hard way. Great job 👏👍

I just found you video. I've been struggling with ABOK #942 for hours! New to knotting and I think your video and instruction will do the trick for me. While I know a number of utility knots and knots used in rope based rescue, fancy work is a new interest. Thank you for what you do!

Philip, again very well done. I have done the extended globe knot using a pattern to build the Fancy Crown knot and then extending it going down toward the Wall knot. This was taken from instructions in a VHS made by Richard M. Phelan named "The Art of Decorative Ropework with Knots Made Easy". I like your method of attaching the wooden ball with a chopstick, great idea. Can't wait to try it when your rope comes in.

Great work here Philip. You do a really good job at explaining some rather difficult knot tying and I truly appreciate it!!

It's just a pleasure to come back to your channel every once in a while and watch a few of your videos. Btw, the cord I bought from you a few years ago is a dream to work with and I'm really happy to still have a bunch of hanks for rainy days. All the best to you and yours from Germany. 🤝🏻👍🏻

So nice of you to say, thank you. All’s well down here. Semi retired so getting used to finding things to do. Perhaps I should start knotting again 😊

I don't tie knots. I don't have use for them. But for some reason I like watching it being done. Sort of makes me feel useless but then it's no one's fault but my own. My reality.

No fault. Watching other people craft things is deeply satisfying. I love it myself.

Phil: Not sure why I haven’t seen this previously, however it has helped me immensely in better understanding globe knots. I’ve now watched it multiple times and I’ve gleaned something new each time, especially following the lead under vs over. I’ve also gone back to Mikko’s globe knot video and now have a better feel for his tutorial. Your tutorial also helped me solve a problem for a handle covering on a 4 sided strop I made for a friend; knowing the cord size, length and bead size is helpful for planning purposes. One question: what is the knotting you used below the first MW knot, I can’t seem to find anything similar (although I might have done something similar in years past but can’t remember, it sucks to get old)? Thanks for sharing and I hope you continue to post videos even though you’ve passed the torch on to Mark. I’m talking with him about an order of cordage, hope it measures up to what I purchased from you. Best of luck to you and yours in the new year. Donald.

Hi Donald. Thanks for your kind reply. I have no plans to make any more videos. At this stage I have moved my priority to my photography. Regarding that sennit I think I describe it in my cat key fob tutorial. Also I’m pretty sure Des Pawson describes it in his book. Hope the new year is good to you.

I'm trying this out today and a bit confused. After the extension, should all the strands be lined up with their original position before starting to double the wall? It seems with mine only alternate ones are, unless I missed a part of the fancy crown?

It is if you want it to be. In the example I show here the whole thing is tripled. This knot is built from a wall and #942 with an extension in between
