As an Italian I am ashamed of what Lovotti (and partly n. 17 also) did. There is no place for such behavior anywhere, let alone on the rugby field. I say sorry to our South African friends.
All good, Stargazer - the foolish action of one player doesn't take away the respect and passion of Italian Rugby. Also saw Sergio checking on Vermeulen after that tip tackle, showing great concern - a class act
Should have been both Italian players red carded though... imagine if that was NZ vs SA, without a doubt both players would have been red carded and put on report with follow up match bans because both picked up the SA player and drove him head first into the ground. Here in NZ rugby is our sport and we see hard hits all the time but this one made me actually cringe and have serious concern for our South African brother, looked like a neck breaker
Yes we have come through to the finals. Your Vanuatu especially Port Vila and Efate supporters are with you in this final and pray that will get the Rugby World cup 2019. As usal sit around bowls of our traditional kava. watch to night. Even England is also tough nad confidence you will make it. God Bless South Africa.
Honestly I have no idea what Lovotti was thinking there. They had an advantage due to offside and they were 5 meters off. They could have scored there and put them within one score of the Boks, and then who knows what could've happened then(unlikely, but, you never know). It would of least made for a more exciting match. It's these kinds of stupid plays that are costing this Italian team so much, and in this game it's as blatant as ever.
Yes I did . He is a awful commentator . He is one of twenty at least uo here in Ireland , England , Scotland ,, Wales . In all sports its beyond A Joke . They really are hard work .
I was Also Very Surprised EBEN ETZEBETH DIDN'T GO IN AND CLEAN HOUSE . He was looking right at it . Ps he is one of my all time Favourite Player's . He is in my all time 15 along with Joost RIP. IV BEEN FOLLOWING RUGBY FOR YEARS . SOUTH AFRICA HAVE HAD SOME SERIOUSLY GREAT PLAYER'S AND STILL DO .
He also steps the other way when required! Check out the other videos that focus just on him. The left then right is just because of where he happens to be on the field...
Italy played the man and not the ball...simple as that...there should have been a couple of yellows against them too...whats with the delayed shoving of the try scorer ?
@Alfa&Omega 00000 Much as they talked up the game, they were never going to win it. But yes, without the red card and the uncontested scrums, it would have been a better contest. Still would have ended in a comfortable win for SA though. Sorry.
Ivor Biggun Umm...in all honesty even if Italy didn’t get the red card they still would’ve lost to South Africa 🇿🇦 imo. Boks just have too much firepower for a team like Italy.
nathan van der Riet Potentially yes, I usually consider spear tackles to be horizontal though (Bokke had several big spear tackles in the game) so may have been some confusion.
16:24 Notice the refereeing till the try - plenty of scrapy play and penalities (holding on the ball etc.) but to "play on" makes the game just brilliant. A good ref makes for a great game, not hearing a whistle is so amazing idk why. "AM scores at a walking pace" - yeah because the ref didn't blow his whistle and give them a little 'rest'
Italy plated with zero class, where as SA were so calm infact, besides Messi and such ppl, if you give the kind of energy Italians did, in soccer, the other team would have retaliated and stooped to their level
yeah you might be on to something. i watched it yesterday but i can remember people scoring tries and then being pushed over out of play and players being held by their feet in the air and dropped. nasty stuff.
@Alfa&Omega 00000 Respect for a superior opposition. The Italians were shocking on the day & I'm not even referring to their performance. Too much off the ball & employing spoiling tactics. Lovotti & Quaglio should be cited for the "assault" (can't think of a better word) on Duane Vermeulen & both should receive lengthy bans. If you can't have respect for your opponents at least have some respect for the game & the laws that govern it.
we only have 2 games against Japan and its 1-1. I prefer Japan so that we starting showing our brilliance on records, plus they are survivors and hard workers, i'm sure it will be a great game
We should face Japan unless they crash and burn against Scotland. We are also far more equiped to contain the Japanese than the Irish were. Japan also won't be as physical, which is good, because if we have to play Ireland, then Wales, then New Zealand, we will be broken by the final.
At 13:45 apparently there is no blocking in rugby? Still learning but that definitely makes things difficult. Person with ball must be furthest up the field?
Indeed, blocking (obstructing) is illegal in rugby. It's not necessary for the person with the ball to be the furthest up the field - you simply cannot impede others from tackling the ball-carrier (not counting mauls, of course).
Remember this game. Only 17-3 half time, Italy had the chance to close the gap early second half to 17-6 or 17-10, then they needlessly get a red card from an absolutely ridiculous tackle. The SA player was literally vertical as he went down on his head. Could have been a much more interesting game without the red.
Italy had 2 props off with injuries and 1 sent off with a red card.. no doubt we got stamped on. We would have lost anyway, but it wouldhave been fun to see it with the full squad. Lovotti was an idiot!
