[EXTENDED] How GFRIEND Revitalized The Innocent Concept And Clawed Their Way To The Top 

I am so sad that they're no longer a group 😭 I really hope that now that they won the fight for their trademark and songs they can maybe come back together!!

Gfriend literally had a new comeback song planned for 2021, and that’s part of the evidence that they didn’t know they were disbanding. In fact SinB and both Sowon stated that the whole breakup was a very sudden and chaotic incident. In fact their contract was set to expire in November 2021, because they signed on November 2014, even though their debut was delayed to January 2015. I don’t think we’ll ever know why Source Music pulled this off but we do know that none of the members wanted to disband, ever.

Gfriend really could’ve made it all the way. They had everything to be a long lasting group. Sad that they’re no longer together now but I hope they come back together in the future.

This really hurts to see them no longer a full-fledged girl group.

My 1st ultimate bias group (3rd Gen) and the 1st group ever decided to stan. I was crying when GFRIEND disbanded because they were a comfort for me and their songs got me through hard times. As the group that got me into kpop, they hold a special place in my heart. As a BUDDY, I hope that someday, they can come together again to perform as GFRIEND.

Viviz has still Gfriend retro's sound but i prefer Yuju, when she debuted as a solo artist, she chose a beautiful korean traditionnal instru with pop totally different from Gfriend's song and i love she show her various color of her voice specially her low voice she can't use often in Gfriend and she developped more her low range as a solo artist

And yes, i'm still salty that they disbanded.

GFRIEND was a trend setter, many challenges idol groups do in different programs, started with GFRIEND. 2X dance, blind dancing, SYNC line dancing... They were top tier as idols. Thye sang live every time because haters could not fathom the vocal ability they possessed. They really set a high bar, and the industry knew it. I am glad they went out during their peak. I am so mad they were forced to disband but at least it wasn't for a scandal, they were blindsided, but they are still iconic.

The fact that Gfriend never got to sing an Anime opening/ending when most of their songs (especially the Japanese ones) were giving major Anime vibes 😭. 'Memoria', 'TFTMN' japanese version, 'Emotional days' and 'My My My' were right there. And the fact that the last song from their last album was 'Wheel of the Year' 😭😭. Who would have thought that 'MAGO' was going to be Gfriend's last comeback. They still had so much potential. With the growth and versatility they showed in 2020 (from Crossroads, to Apple and finally to Mago; with the 3 songs the girls wrote as duet: Better Me, Night Drive and Secret Diary), I was looking forward to see what they were going to deliver in 2021. Gfriend is the only Kpop group that I have followed since debut days and never got tired of following. Also the only group that I have ever spent money on (albums, merchs and online concert). I have liked or loved each Gfriend's comeback and got obsessed with their choreos. Which is why after 6 years of following Gfriend, knowing how rough their debut days were and how much they went through after to become one of South Korea's most popular (girl) groups, I still can't believe how disrespectful the whole disbandment process was. Source Music and Hybe could not even give Gfriend one last comeback like Sistar. Nope, they had to do as little as possible for one of the most iconic girl groups (just an announcement for the disbandment and some pictures) And the way Source Music and Hybe tried to scam Buddys by not giving them back their money for the Weverse fanclub package, then messed up and exposed some Buddys' credit cards info; Source Music also had to give South Korean Buddys their money back for the cancelled fanmeeting because of Covid. There really is no such thing as family between idols and their company. Idols are just employees and when some people at the top want to replace the old employees and start all over again with some fresh faces then it does not matter how much you did for the company or how loyal you were, you get thrown out.

I love how diverse their discography is. 🥰 They remind me a lot of Dreamcatcher in some ways and I feel like they could have an even more dramatic comeback. I know it's delulu behavior but I don't care ! 😂

And yes it is true that "GFRIEND captivated different range of fans regardless of age, gender, Fandom, and nationality" I'm the proof, I'm one of them. I'm an Army and i still listen to gfriend's songs. I appreciate their talents. And i still support them even they parted ways..

i am still so upset and angry with source music. They had a group that had their own distinct color, sound and perfomance and massively passionate artists who had so much love for their songs, perfomances and eachother. They had such a bright future ahead of them... Hoping to see them come together as a group again one day, and that i'll finally be able to see them live :-(

It's so funny to me that JYP passed on Yuju. In my opinion, she is one of the best vocalists of the 3rd gen along with Wendy. He's a literal clown to have passed on that but luckily it led to us having Gfriend.

Yes i believe the answer is disbanded Gfriend to create a new rookie girlsband, maybe the decision was made by Hybe and not directly Source music but Source music under Hybe debuted Le Sserafim produced by the CEO of Hybe as ex-big hit and they didn't learn their mistakes from Glam scandal with Garam scandal but recreate same mistake

i'm a kpop fan since 2009 so i knew Gfriend but not all the name, the only girlsband i was fan was SNSD and i can remember their name with occidental name like Jessica, Tiffany, Sunny, it wasn't hard to remember but i get older and i like G-friend's song, i can name their songs but not all their name but my biais was Yuju, she looks like Jessica from SNSD girls generation, she has an unusual voice similar but not totally like Jessica. That's Yuju's face that i recognized 1rst then Uhmji, i learned her name when Umhji redebuted with Viviz but i struggle to write it, i didn't recognize SinB's face in Gfriend but i recognize Eunha's face in Gfriend, SinB is the lead vocalist of Viviz but she struggled in live i think the lead strong vocalist of Gfriend is Yuju, it's Yuju's voice that makes Gfriend, Gfriend, like also Jessica that makes SNSD Girls Generation - Girls Generation even if i hate fans of ot8 who treated Jessica with their 15th anniversary without jessica and they made hateful comment under a youtuber kpop channel who are just kpop fan but knew Girls generation with Jessica or with Sone who are still ot9 and not ot8. They insulted us even not fan of Snsd Girls generation who just said Jessica, the forbidden name like Voldemort, when we said Jessica's name or missing Jessica or Ot9, they insulted us and think Jessica didn't bring anything to Girls Geration, isn't taeyeon or tiffany strong vocal lol when Jessica was a sub-vocal like Tiffany and Jessica has an unusual voice like Yuju of Gfriend, her low and high voice like a crack voice seems like unique like Jessica and Jessica did high note too. I would prefer this comeback anniversary wouldn't happen, did a 15th anniversary of SNSD Girls Geration without Jessica with a sample of into the new world but pretended Jessica didn't exist, i hate this thing from SM who boycott their ex-member

Hopefully GFriend will only ever be the six girls we’ve come to love. Other groups may gain or lose members but GFriend was so complete as a group that any change to the roster just feels off. We’ll probably never know what happened but I won’t be surprised if it was a situation where it was either GFriend or Sakura and they picked Sakura.

It’s like they’re never given the permission to grow and improve and broaden their horizons as artists. Lol. Fans do that. And it sucks. This most likely pushed the members to just separate after all, or was at least a contributing factor (since we all know there are bigger reasons internally).

Another correction: There was only 1 GLAM member who got into a blackmail controversy, not 2. The second girl was a model and not an idol.

Yang Yoojin was the one who got sued by Source Music for breach of contract.

For Yerin, i saw her debut, like aria but i prefer her other b-side song it's other people who learned to me that she was an ex-member of Gfriend, i didn't know! I'm 32 years now, i still love kpop specially girlsband, but i don't have the energy to learn all the name except smaller group with just 4-6 members who doesn't look the same

the way they couldn't even wait until the contract expired makes it worse. they chose to disband the group earlier than expected for no good reasons. they weren't at their peak anymore but they were still successful and doesn't justify it. I feel bad for the members, they made the company successful and were thrown away like they meant nothing.

Fingertip was Gfriends best title track. After they went back to violins I dropped them. But still respect they were good at the time. I realise now though, Yuju was the thing that made me like the sound. Ps. I hope you are still going to do a KARA documentary!

I become a Pixy's fan with just 6 members, they have different face and not like the standard of k-beauty so i didn't struggle to recognize them, Aespa too but Kep1er, i can name just my 3 members biais, i love WJSN's song but i can't recognize and name all of them, just 4 my biais Yeonjung, Exy, Yeoreum and Dayoung, the same with Loona i find Loona's member are too numerous, i can't recognize any of them except Chuu's face and name after flip flat, i saw them in Queendom 2 but i didn't remember a particular face, i find Loona's member face too similar! Kep1er has too many members too with too similar koreans members, the only one face i like is Yujin (i know she was an ex-member of CLC when she debuted only, i wasn't a fan of CLC) i thought the visual member was Yujin or bahiyyih i struggle very much with her first name but she has a unique beauty, she is more beautiful than his brother or i thought Hikaru was the visual but not, it's the chinese member who is the visual of the group. For a group with lot of members, visuals are very important to recognize members and it's so funny, now i find koreans too similar specially in kep1er and i find bahiyyih more beautiful and loona's members have very too similar face, i'm not a fan of loona, i love just flit flap but i recognize only Chuu
