I use Cabot Stain solid color Mission Brown, Allagash and then Mountain Laruel for the trim, look for yourself on my page

Thanks--I've seen it done that way. For your average DIY painter it is not worth the trouble, in my opinion. The 90-degree angle on the edge of the trim board makes a much straighter line naturally than trying to cut in against the siding, where there is likely caulking that will make it difficult to cut a nice straight line unless somebody is an expert. In any case, I've never found it to be worth the trouble, and whether it looks better or not is really a matter of opinion. I do appreciate you pointing this out, however, because it is an option.

howtopaintahouse Go look at showpieces in whatever downtown you are close to; the side of the trim is painted the trim color. It's not really opinion; it's just a fact. The "facing" style that you are teaching didn't come out until after the airless sprayer..... Before the airless sprayer, craftsman did what was logical; paint the trim boards the trim color and paint the clap's the siding color. It is more interesting to look at that way. If the caulk is all built up, then remove it; prime the bare wood, reapply caulk correctly, then paint the trim, the cut in the siding. Beautiful.

when doing the siding on my house I always prestain with Cabot, as I build,,the inside corners are 2x4's ripped and stained the trim color, as is the trim boards. the cedar clap boards on the first level are stained Misson Brown, and the second level a half story is shingled with cedar shingles I pre stained the Allagash green, and the the trim are Mt Laurel deep green almost park bench green, but I learn from others all the time, Not sure who will have to repaint stain later on, but for years it will look good and not peal away because all the wood is coated, sides, edges and back
