Sanyo SSD 500GB- 4TB: amzn.to/3lzmPhE
Today I explained the difference between two external hard drives, the SSD and the HDD. Although still useable, the HDD is an older technology slowly fading. I wouldn't be surprised that in another five years, HDD will be absolute. On the hand, SSD ( Solid State Drives) are the new kids on the block. Not only is the SSD faster, but it's also more robust. In this video, I explained the difference between each and why I chose to change drives.

This was very helpful. Today I purchased Seagates' 5TB portable storage. When I got home I noticed the packaging didn't state if it was a SSD. I did a little research and found out it is in fact HDD (It was also on the back of the packaging, duh). I don't have the most steady hands in the world and I was worried that I would drop and damage it. When you mentioned that this is a high probability, I determined right then I was taking it back and getting either the San Disk or Samsung SSD. Thanks for the video conformation.

I love your straightforward videos. But SSD does have to have a battery in it to maintain power. It might be small and not look like what we think of as a battery. If you are out hiking etc. the SSD is the way to go, The older, larger HDD, as you said, should ne be moved around. It is more intended to sit on your desk as long term storage, of older info. Horses for courses, they both have their use case.

Thanks, Julie. Yes, SSDs do need a battery to maintain power, but the level of energy required is so small that many of the external SSDs can last up to 2-5 years without power before losing data.

@@markfrankstechreviews3744 I"d like to buy a new external drive for my new Mac mini M2. I have an old Western Digital SSD and when I plug it in by USB my Mac mini gets very warm within an hour I believe because it's getting it's power 100% through the Mac with no external power adapter. I'd like an external drive to stay attached for Time Machine backup. It seems the only way to dissipate heat is to get an external HD with an AC adapter, is that right? I'd appreciate to hear your opinion. Thank you.
