Technically that was jazz... but it was with a bunch if different instruments than you'd typically find in jazz.... I actually really liked it

Its a massive blend of Jazz Genres but its foundation is Free Jazz. Which is basically someone taking a Jazz song and modifying it. Its a really cool way to express oneself in music and art. Common in Jazz obviously.

This reminds me of 21st Century Schitzoid Man by King Crimson. Very Avant Garde and Fusion. Jazz and Rock elements. Very good song all in all. Awesome job on the sightread FC. OHH....btw.....1..3..7..5..never alive.....sounds like something in the vein of necromancy.....its a nice touch to the song.

Shining actually started out as a standard jazz group with the vocalist on trumpet. There's a great live performance of the entire Blackjazz album on YT. It's really stunning to watch.

This is avant garde jazz/jazz fusion so yes. It is jazz. Just very experimental. It's just that what they fused it with was Industrial/Progressive Metal so it sounded less Jazzy. But yeah. It's Jazz.

I've actually been meaning to check out Shining for awhile. Had a metalhead friend recommend them to me years back, but I never followed through because at that time, the heaviest thing I listened to was Parkway Drive. I'll definitely have to check this band out. This was REALLY weird, but in a good way. A bunch of chaotic craziness which is right up my alley.

Lot of avant garde metal bands are including saxes these days. A good edgy alto sax happens to pair really well with distorted guitars and harsh vocals.

This track definitely has some Frank Zappa influence to it, particularly his "Hot Rats" and "Jazz from Hell" writing. It's most clear in the intro, but you can hear it in a number of the shifts and changes as well, and some of the background instrumentation from time to time.
