I have refined and fine tuned my own personal budget over and over to arrive at a expense of $550/month not including housing. This at least to me, it extremely low and a very good base to use for saving on any budget. I would like to share this with you so that you can compare yours with mine to see where you can improve on. Or perhaps my budget is higher than yours and you can give me a few pointers.

Hmmmm. I lived in my car for 10 years....I worked heavy construction 60 hrs a week ... I don't drink or smoke.... I always parked under the lights at a truck stop. They have dinners, TVs, and showers there. I always found the high schools and used their track to run 3 miles a night. I paid cash for a 500 acre farm and put my 4 children though college. I'm completely out of debt Now I sit on my porch. count cows and watch the sun sets

My girls and I are saving to convert a school bus and travel, living minimalistically, getting out of debt and begin creating our wealth. I commend you for going against the social structures and judgments of what a "normal" person "should" do and choosing your own path. That way the entire journey is joyous and enriching. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

If you're friends drop you because you don't want to eat out, then they're not real friends. :(

@Andrea Serrano-Seaman I enjoy saving money and being outdoors. I personally dont like eating out, it's expensive and most of the time home cooking is 1,000% times better period. from time to time 6-10 times a year. funds can go dry when you don't think about the big picture. im totally out of debt and going for a house, so a real real budget is about to hit home. not much of a change but spending less til better jobs come along and make side money with my time (researching new things that are helpful skills). then setting things up after I am prepared to do esales w out spending much.

It's not aobut them dropping you, it's just that if you always have economical reasons for not being able to do stuff with them, you will meet them way less and slowly drift apart
@adrianerhodes1811
@adrianerhodes1811 4 года назад
@@tubewoodycool I mean or you could go check out libraries, play board games/video games, have potlucks, go hiking, go window shopping, go biking, take part in a marathon. Like you can put EFFORT into your friendships and you won't drift. And oh yeah ^^^ All of those things are FREE.
@tubewoodycool
@tubewoodycool 4 года назад
@@adrianerhodes1811 True, but you hav eto be realistic too. A group of guy friends in their 20s on a weekend would rather go out partying than going for out for a run. And if you always say no to these things that cost money, you will not be able to hang out with your friends as much (at least for 90% of people). I love saving money, but you have to spend some on having fun too, otherwsie what's the point in saving?

So many people underestimate the eating out thing. There are people at my office who go out for lunch at least 4-5X a week and they ask why I bring lunch every day. I explain to them they are spending $50 a week = $200 a month on food that might taste good, but is garbage in their body, and that I spend $40-50 on 2 weeks worth of groceries and get so much food for that money. I told one guy one day that for his $8 Wendy's combo he could have bought lunch meat, cheese, and a loaf of bread and had sandwiches for over a week. His eyes kind of glazed over. Some people just don't understand this concept of money and with having a debit card to just swipe, so many have lost the feeling of how much they are spending. Easily the fastest way to clean up money in your budget and glad you highlighted it early in your video! If more people sat down and looked at even their daily expenses they would find easy ways to have more money. Most people I know spend over $100 a month on daily coffee from Starbucks, lol

Yep I agree! I try to bring lunch from home every day and the longer I go without going out to eat the happier I am because I know that each meal spent at work can run me $8-$10 each and thats a lot of grocery money wasted on a single meal.

Crazy! I see the same thing at work- we have a bunch of fast food places readily available right downstairs to where I work, and I see everyone with their bags of fast food every day in the kitchen! And here I am, with my lil' blue lunchbag carrying soups/ rice dishes, sandwiches etc (I usually make a bunch on Sunday night & freeze for the week). They laugh at me until I tell them this was the way I was able to buy my first home- all by myself. I'll treat myself to a cheeky bacon & egg mcmuffin on a Monday mornings (paired with free coffee from he work machine). And now I'm working on growing my own food at home so I can save even more!

The best budgeting tip I have is: Having a “bigger...better...clearer” image of what I want. I sometimes clear my “after work and weekend personal time schedule” free for a week or two and do some brainstorming / dreaming time to evaluate if what I am doing are “most important things”. Edit: Huge thanks sharing your budget. [For me at least] It’s such a personal thing to do!

It's good that he showed his personal budget and it's good that he still lives luxuriously with a nice car, clothes, travel, and not cheap out on his friends. A lot of budget videos try to tell us to skimp out on friends and skimp out on clothes and not to travel but common now...let us enjoy life a little.

I pay mortgage and health insurance. I left it out of this video as the intention was for you to compare all the other bills only. Mortgage/rent and insurance differs so greatly between people that it WILL be different so not worth comparing. Some might rent for $500, others $2500. So please only compare the bills and think about reducing them over time. Work on one or two of them every month, it really takes that long if you are switching services and trying something lower cost.
@le_th_
@le_th_ 6 лет назад
Mortgage and insurance in the SF Bay area are both exorbitant, so no wonder you left it out. If you told people how much we spend on rent and insurance here, no one would watch your videos because they would think you're crazy for paying it. The same is true for what we spend to ride BART, and what we pay in tolls. Also, your food budget is lower than what is provided for a single person on food stamps in the Oakland/SF/SJC area ($180ish/month, I believe?), so it's hard to accept that $120/month is all you spend. However, if you also spend $100 eating out, that just about makes up for the difference (and I hope you're not one of those people who eats out and doesn't tip people). It's also hard to believe that you spend $0 on clothes at Banana Republic. It defies logic that you shop at a brick and mortar store and pay $0 yet walk out with clothes (unless you're committing theft). You can get some really good deals on the sales rack there, but $0??? Highly unlikely without stealing them, and hopefully you're not doing that.

I agree it's different but still: there is lots of room keeping a budget with a family. Kids don't need as much stuff as they often get and it makes sense to at least agree with your partner about your financial goals. Otherwise you could also split the expenditures and keep your own budget separate from the "family budget"

It's really good to evaluate what you spent after the fact. As long as you prep meals in advance and keep it delicious, there will be no cravings for take out. They will not want take out if it's good or better. For example, I really enjoy steamed fish and you cannot get it at most places.

With kids, if they want pizza, make it yourself, or at least cut out coupons during the month so you have them in your wallet when you do cave. Burgers? Keep frozen burger patties in the freezer with buns so you can just whip them out in a minute, throw a good brand of frozen fries (or make your own) into the oven and party down with all the fixins. Tacos are fast and easy, if you keep hamburger or ground chicken in the freezer, and use frozen tortilla shells, not pre-made. Any way you do it, it is cheaper than takeout. Cooking ahead also helps, so you don't have to cook when you get home, just heat it up.

Lol! Love the explanation on the farty couch! Haha! Great tips BTB. Costco has great gas prices. 20-30 cents less per gallon. I've been eating organic sprouted extra firm tofu at Trader Joe's. Cut it in flat 1/4 inch pieces and fry it in a little sesame oil and add teriyaki sauce. Flip it a couple times (like French toast) and it's done when it's crispy. Eat it over brown rice and a bit more teriyaki sauce and lots of grilled veggies. It's so good and you don't miss meat!

That's cool. I keep housing expenses mortgage, utilities, HOA bills at $1000. Living expenses, about $200 per week. 10 years ago, it was easy. Nowadays, not easy. Everything else goes to Savings and Debt payments. With some effort, I think I can save an extra $200 per month, so not too bad. Not as extreme, but expenses while traveling is rather expensive these days. A little trick I learned is to pay for your monthly expenses for the whole year. I can usually get either a 10% off or a free month. plus, I save all the time and postage dealing with that. Bonus points if they accept credit card payment.

BTB, just analyzing your work here. Would you add to this by including like insurance cost, dental, and health etc. How do you feel about this aspect things? This is an expense that I would love to dodge but it's almost impossible. Where would this fall in a budget? Just curious.

I guess that is separate and depends on your medical insurance needs. It's different for everybody so I didn't include it. That and housing adds to this of course.

Budget tracking? I don't track budget. This is what I do. I normally spend at a minimum level. And if I want anything, I save so much that I don't have to worry about buying special items that are costly. I do need to look at my standing if the thing I want costs more than $1000.

I'm a vet going to school on the GI bill. my yearly "income" is $13000. i pay my rent, utilities, internet, insurance, gas, food, etc... and i have a surplus of nearly $100 a month. i just dont understand how people making $30k+ can't make ends meet. it's just irresponsible. Yes, my life is simple right now. however, it is debt free and the poverty hopefully wont last forever. make the choice, live outside your means and never make enough, or sacrifice that thing you "need" and never need.

My issue is cc debt from my 20s (I’m paying that off slowly but surely, that’s where all extra money goes too) and 3 kids, 1 in college , pets, school functions. It used to be groceries for 4 that hurt me. $800/mo but I cut that budget to $600 and the $200 I save is going towards paying debt. This is on a $40,000 budget for 4. I agree though it’s ridiculous and I’m trying to make all of our wrongs right.

If you are going to school on the GI bill, you have little or no student debt. If you are single with no children to worry about, that $100 surplus seems like a lot. However if you become ill or have an emergency, you will see how fast your 'debt' can balloon.

Was so glad to hear you tell people it's ok to use coupons! By couponing, I get almost all of my toiletries and dry goods for very very cheap! Some of it is even free! When companies decide on prices, they take into consideration the coupons that they issue..so they raise their prices expecting people to use the coupon. Just using those alone saves me a lot each month! Thanks!
@BeatTheBush
@BeatTheBush 6 лет назад
Well... I actually very sparingly use coupons. The 0.25 to 0.75 off stuff I skip. But when it's $20 off $50, or Free, I take notice. Much of the stuff you get with coupons are really bad for you so much of the stuff I buy never offers coupons.
@LadyTheFae
@LadyTheFae 6 лет назад
Mostly the things I buy with coupons are toilet paper, paper towels..my makeup (smiles, I am a woman)..shampoos, conditioners...body washes...diapers for my grand babies and laundry supplies...so not a lot of edible products...but I only coupon at CVS so you would not find a lot of edibles there. But I am proud to see anyone that takes advantage of coupons whether it is for clothing or household items!

Sengngy Kouch I used to work at an independent insurance brokerage here in Chicago. My advice would be to go with a well-known insurance company that everyone knows (Allstate, Travelers, Safeco,etc). A lot of people on a budget are tempted to go with companies that aren’t so well-known, which I understand, but then it turns out that if they have an accident, the lesser known company doesn’t offer them the coverage they need. In other words, they are paying less per month, but in the long-run, if there’s an accident, they end up paying more than if they would have gone with a more known company like Travelers, Allstate, Safeco, etc. Make sure to also pay attention for any additional fees that can add up or any discounts. For example, if you have kids on your policy, many companies offer “good student discount” if those kids have good grades. Many companies also offer a lower, discounted premium if you pay the new policy in full. Some companies charge you a fee if you choose a particular pay plan, so make sure you ask if there are any fees attached to them. Also, pay attention to the rates of different companies. Here in Chicago, and maybe elsewhere, the rates of Statefarm are ridiculously high because they’re restructuring. Finally, as I said, I would go with an independent insurance brokerage. As I said, i worked at an independent brokerage, and when I would see the rates getting too high with one company, I had access to a bunch of other different companies and could thus easily transfer them over so they wouldn’t find another broker and so they could have a good rate (win-win). Hope this helps.

Dollar store LED bulbs. You might want to look at estimated lifetime and also power usage. The lifetime could be less and power usage more for cheaper ones.

唔戴眼鏡靚仔D. I thought I was frugal then I got TRUMPed by btb. Oh how much is the mortgage and property tax and maintenance? Your parents must be proud but this not at all sustainable for raising a family. Are you going to be a lonely honey badger? Today I told my coworker to cut down vampire electricity from your other video and she looked at me like I was crazy and replied her family will not be on board then I told her to shop around for cheaper data plan than company plan. You'd be one of those friends where I feel so bad at such extreme frugality that I'll just end up paying for u on most times we go out and spend but I also admire u at the same time for your discipline and ability to make me pay for u

lol... I have omitted those on purpose. I mean as it stands.. no lady over here but that might not be forever though. LOL! Why are you being so nice to ask others to cut down their power? It always seems people never really want advice unless they ask for it. Do know that I will not take such things if you keep on offering to pay. For one time or special occasions, I'm okay but I always pay for myself.

$120 a month on groceries is really cheap. How do you get it so low? Can you explain this?
@BeatTheBush
@BeatTheBush 6 лет назад
Low meat high veggies. I only buy a few items of expensive proceed foods. 2 for $1 bell peppers. Buy lots of them. Rice. Chicken. Here is an example of $1 lunch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HTd_EDTB-qY.html

What kind of veggies? Veggies are really expensive where I live, especially for the calories you get from them.

Black Caesar beans, rice, pasta, potatoes, chicken thighs instead of breasts, skirt steak, sales,coupons. I can do about $120/wk for family of 4 if I try. & I get high quality meat & natural food brands (more expensive but worth it).

Wally Alief, the thing with veggies is that they give you fibre, very good for your guts, and calories can come so cheap when you combine with oil or potatoes which are calorie bombs, the right veggies and also potatos even have protein as well.

Emma Tessier Indeed. People complain how expensive they are but I will take protein and fiber from fresh fruits and vegetables any day. I personally think fast food and processed foods are more expensive.

I find as a man if you stay away from women and relationships you can live quite cheaply. Most men don’t need a lot to live.

B.S. You just date like minded women. There are minimalist females. Granted they are rarer than men, but overspending, keeping up with the Joneses are not exclusive toward women.

You just haven't found the right woman. Real women are not interested in spending massive amounts of money. I literally get a little bit of a rush from saving money. Lol

Not really. I'm cheap. I rather eat at home, buy in low retail stores like Ross. Matter a fact I tell my husband he has to stop spending so much on stupid stuff and eating out with his "brothers" since he's Korean.
