That was an extremely informative video for anyone that would need information on proper keeping of a pond. Most excellent video Ed. I wish I had a nice fish pond and my wife wants one. We just have to many trees and leaves. I'm guessing you are starting a slow down period on pond work as the cold winter months are rolling in. If you happen to be out and about near interesting ponds and or gardens over the winter, I would love to see some of that architecture so keep your camera handy ( please ). I'm always game to see other places and nobody better to show us than you ! Oh almost forgot ..No need to thank me for supporting this channel Ed but you are very welcome my friend ! This is the kind of content I enjoy and I feel that we viewers get something from this so we should be willing to support all your hard work in sharing this with us. Thank You

Thanks Tony! Yes I’m starting to slow down a bit for winter-currently completing my end of year winter servicing on my long ist of clients who’s ponds I look after-getting very cold though!! Water temps are down below 5c and in these temps it can be a bit challenging working in and around water. I generally work up to Christmas then January and February I don’t do too much-spending precious time at home with my family (4 kids!!) to resume work from March onwards. I’ll def keep in mind what you said about filming some different locations! Watch this space…..! All the very best, Ed

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for these great videos, im building a pond and im getting really interested on the topic and you're helping me so much! My pond is gonna be really on a budget so I don't expect it to last a lot (luckily i already had the materials such as stonehenge and plants) but thanks to you im already dreaming on the following improvement when ill be economically indipendent!

HI there, thanks for your kind words and i’m pleased you have found some of my videos useful!! Good luck with your pond build- budget doesn’t have to necessarily impact on its longevity- however do try to spend as much of your budget on good quality rubber (rather then pvc) pond liner and some proper pond liner underlay. This will make a huge difference to the durability of the overall pond when complete and help it to last for many years! Good luck! Best, Ed

I really enjoyed this video. I love the English gardens. It's amazing how much pride that is put in these gardens. I wish more people in the US had a small pond in their garden like I do.

You mentioned on the video that out of 198, there should be only 98 in there. I have a 10000 Liter pond with 1 Koi, 4 Carps about 20 cm each and a tench and have been told that I should not introduce any more. I was planning to get 3 or 4 Sarasa Comets and a Tench as I recently lost one. Is an established pond 7 years, with good oxygenating plants and a Oase 12000 pump and filter system. Could you let me know your thoughts, or maybe do a video on "pond size - number of fish - filtration needed - plants- anything else"? Thanks, Really enjoy your videos

Hi there, thanks for watching and commenting. There are various pond calculators online and suggested formulas to help gauge quantity of livestock vs pond volume, but it’s not always as simple as that and there are many variables that will effect suggested quantities of fish for a pond. Surface area, pond depth, what filtration system is in use etc all play an important roll in final stocking numbers-not pond volume. However if your pond is 10,000 lites in volume and is filtered with a suitable system that maintains clean, clear water you have scope for plenty more fish then you currently have-you could easily double up without any issues. However always introduce numbers gradually, ie wait a few weeks between each introduction and only add one or two (larger 8” plus) fish or 6 smaller (3-4” fish) at a time. Also it’s worth noting that a pond will always run cleaner and with less issues if you keep it under stocked as there are less demands on the pond and filter and less waste being produced. Hope this helps! Best, Ed

Hi Ed, what is the probability u.may harm the living inside (small fish, larvae, baby fish still too small) on the other more damage if you decide against (full)cleaning completely the pond by removing the hole water? I appreciate so much your videos as usual. Kudos!!!

Morning! Good question; unfortunately draining and cleaning a pond is unquestionably a very invasive thing to do to a pond, which is why it’s only recommended to be undertaken every five to ten years or so. By reserving as much of the old pond water as possible you’ll be saving some of the smaller water born inverts and when removing the sludge lookout and keep as many larvae as feasibly possible. Keeping a bucket of sludge aside and putting this back into the pond when you’ve completed the clean can help reintroduce some life back into the pond and help kickstart it. Water beetles and skaters and able to fly from pond to pond so no problems if they end up going out with the sludge-so too any amphibians that may accidentally get scooped up with some muck-they’ll find they’re way back to the pond as well! Hope this helps, Best, Ed

Wow that’s a lot of fish. Ed, is there much chance of damaging the liner when you stand in a pond? Cheers as always.
@CrystalClearAquatics
@CrystalClearAquatics 7 месяцев назад
Hey there! Good question and yes-if you’re not careful and if the lining is old it is entirely possible to damage the liner. I always check the grips on the soles of my boot and make sure I don’t have any loose stones caught that could pose a risk to the liner. In general though keeping an eye out for any sharp things you could stand on and avoiding these is all you have to watch for- the liner is tougher then you’d imagine-I’ve never damaged a liner in the almost 30 years I’ve been in the trade! Best, Ed
