• Extreme Cold Teardrop ...
Mike decides to test the limits of the very capable NuCamp Tag teardrop camper by taking it on an overnight camping trip in extremely cold temperatures. How did it go? Watch and find out!
Update: I've received quite a few comments regarding cooking inside the camper. While I did take precautions and the camper is always ventilated when I'm using gas appliances indoors, I do not condone this activity! Do it at your own risk!!
There are also many comments about my clothing and I should have talked about this in the video.
I did have a down coat with me. I had 3 layers on underneath my hoodie, which is a very thick and warm hoodie to begin with. My jeans are lined with flannel plus I had long underwear on. I had 2 layers of socks plus toe warmers in my work boots. I also had a pair of warm gloves in addition to the gloves you see in the video. Not to mention the extra insulation I've put on over the holidays! 🐷 I was actually quite comfortable when I was moving around and didn't even need the down coat!
The filming location of this video will not be included in patreon data, as I’ve decided it is in poor taste to pay wall this free campground. However I would prefer to keep this location hidden as it is a special place for locals and I will likely use it again for future videos. If you are interested in knowing more about this campground please feel free to send an email.

I lived in Alaska from 1989 to fall of 2019 with rarely renting an apartment because I lived in my truck camper. Winter night cold was - 10 below to - 20 below and I didn't have any electric you just do without. Day tempetures in Anchorage run around 32 degrees

Absolutely, dogs don’t complain and are just happy to be with you! I always bring 1 of our dogs whilst solo camping, my wife is afraid of the woods so she rarely goes with me. First time to this channel, and this was the first video. I watched up until he was throwing the wood from the truck, never looking to see where the dog was. Left off watching then, not a true dog lover. I wouldn't have done that with my trained gun dogs. Won't be back. DRC.

I lost my home a couple years ago and live in my 40 yr old RV made of wood and polyurethane skin with inch and a half thick walls. This winter not being too bad so I was able to keep us warm at 65-68° with my electric radiator heaters. (My furnace no longer works) Last winter got -10° and we struggled to keep it at 50-55° inside. I had to stay bundled and my dogs huddled up and I covered them with a quilt. Being disabled keeps me from being able to do repairs but God has been with US and kept us sheltered so I'm not complaining just sharing how camper life has it's challenges. But overall it's been pleasant and we are happy. 👍

get a small woodburner installed, & that way, you can allways keep warm, & there is plenty of wood laying about, usuly everywhere, such as pallets, etc etc, or like in the video, park somewhere out of the way & get a camp fire going every night, & you be able to cook for free too, whether on a woodburner or a camp fire, or both

I built a 10x6 6.5 tall on a tent trailer frame and upgraded the axle. 2x3 walls and plywood with a galvanized metal roof. Metal insulated house door chopped down and one window over the sink. Diesel heater, exterior vented and interior fed garbage hatch. Murphy bed, 40” tv, generator, shore power hook up, manual foot pump sink from water jog to bucket. USB shower stall/ bathroom. I moved it onto a farm a few weeks ago and moved in full time. It’s doing me perfect and I don’t mind the minimal set up at all. It’s standing height and still has enough room for doing my work outs inside. I got shire power here and Ben a covered slip for winter. I’m so glad I decided to go this route, best decision ever.

Great video! My wife and I camp in our runaway camper throughout hunting season and condensation is always a problem. I recommend removing everything when you return home and letting things dry out. Yes, definitely some good advice on the mold issue when camping. I would also like to add to check & air out your things in the summer, when the humidity gets high. Had a problem with my AC not working durning 1 trip, on a high humidity weekend. Went out again on a following weekend trip, only to find that some mold spots had started to grow in my tiny shower area & under my kitchen sink. Thank God I caught it & was able to kill the mold with a water & bleach solution & letting it air out after.

I’ve did this before way back in my early 20s . It’s not so bad if you have a propane heater . I did it in a ice & snow storm & thank GOD I had enough food & such because it was for 5 days & I 75 was shut down from north to south here in the mid west , I had electric for 5 days because I was hooked up to a electrical box in a park area but didn’t have electric heating , had 2 wool blankets & 2 big comforters with me at the time , I was trying to head home from around the Cleveland area back home to Cincinnati & as the day went on I 75 got real bad , i only made it not even mid way to Columbus in a 6 hour timeline when they started shutting down 75 so I pulled of the highway & tried to find a campground , I ended up finding a mom & pop R.V. campground & they let me stay their for the next 5 days for cheap , very cool people & I stayed very warm & very fed for the next 5 days .

I've go in my T@g to -30 C. One tip I would give you is that an ice fishing hut (the quick, pop-up kind), with a Buddy Heater, works quite nicely to give you the extra space (and stand-up room) as well as a nice warm spot to cook and eat. For me, colder than -30 is not worth the risk, as I am on my own, usually in places with no cell service, and if something happens, I would be in serious trouble until help came.

We like the teardrop for many reasons, most of all the ease of towing, off-road capability and overall efficiency. Plus it still “feels” like camping. I’m going to be making a video about this soon. Thanks for tuning in!

I couldn’t camp like that… the noise from a generator ruins it for me as I love the silence of the night mixed with animal sounds and a crackling fire!

I have a butane catering stove that is designed for indoor use but it is a good idea to always crack a window when using any open flame.

Crack a window and you're fine. A lot of stoves are built exactly for it now.

Butain stoves are safe to be used inside .... The stove he's using is a backpackers stove...definitely not advisable in a camper that is basically nothing but bedding materials.

Near Zero… that’s T-Shirt weather. I wonder how it would fare at -20F, -30F, -40F. We do snow shelters down to -50F here in interior Alaska. It stays surprisingly comfortable in a snow cave at -40F. Some aluminum foil, reflectex, and a couple of tea lights will bring it up above freezing.

I have to say of all the vids of cosy little camping homes like these...this appeals the most because it's so modern and clean inside, I'd definitely be ok with sleeping in there.

Are you really pay walling a Free campground that cost you ZERO dollars to camp at ? Big Yikes.....
@NowhereBoundAdventures

The main reason I don’t want to divulge the campground info out into the open is because it’s a special place for locals. I also happen to make all of my location data available to patreon subscribers. That includes free camping spots, hiking trails and 4x4 routes everywhere. However I’ve decided not to include this campground in my patreon data because I do agree with you that it’s in poor taste. If you want to know the campground info you can send me an email michaelofca@gmail.com. I will make a note of that in the video description. Thanks for watching!

Used to have a group of 10 or so that got together ever month fall, winter and spring. Ocean, lakes or mountain. Had to have water around. In the NC mountains we ran into some really bad winter storms with sleet, rain and snow but we never quit. A tear will fit almost completely in a large EZup type cover with the solid walls. Major help. We have wagon trained them and covered with huge tarps. If we had electric we might have had a small heater. Campgrounds would all be empty but for us. Too old for that now and the people stopped but great times for all for about 6 - 8 years. We would do a 'Trailer trash Christmas' gathering the first weekend of December with enough decorations for suburban block or two for each camper. A lot of fun to see who could have the most overdone decorations.

Mike I always enjoy watching these outdoors winder camping. These are some campers who go solo and without a dog or fire arm. I must say that while watching the video you spoke about going outside to get a roasted potato and I am in Jamaica and I about to boil a potato. I love sweet potatoes in any style.

idk y im watching this except to see how this camper is equipped to handle the cold bcz at 49 i have severe arthritis and about 10 other things that make doing anything in the cold very painful so just watching this is making me hurt a little lol I'm glad your doggo was warm enough and glad you were ready to go in a moments notice as being out there by yourself can be worse than being in the cold.

Dude, you are a gangster. I worked in 30 below for 12 - 16 hours a day outside on the Sea of Okatash in Russia on a crab ship; but at least I had all the gear, I was working (attempting to stay warm), had hot meals and a warm bunk. Showers were weird in storms. But I loved your video. I'm working on and overland build but was pondering whether I could actually build a 4 season camper. Thank you for you video.
