Today, we're going to discuss 6 major cultural differences between the United States and France we've seen as both American expats and Frenchies ourselves so to speak.
Here are things we were asked, as Americans in France, that we found could be French Culture Shocks for Americans:
Age doesn’t separate friendships.
You tend to talk to kids as they are adults versus just being kids.
It seems to be more community based rather than individual based.
Christianity is more part of the culture in the States versus in France where it’s more of a hush-hush topic.
Meals, including lunch, are very important to the French. While Americans will grab something on the go and eat in the car, the French will stop at an « aire » and picnic with whatever food they brought/made or bought.
It takes longer to make friends in France but when you make a friend, it’s a deeper friendship.
