The Exmoor Coaster, ran by First’s Buses of Somerset subsidiary, has its route run up Porlock Hill, part of the A39 road in Somerset. The hill is infamous for its steepness, and has gradients of 1 in 4 for parts of its length. The trip utilised an open topped Alexander Dennis Enviro400 with the ADL Trident chassis, fleet number 32739, registered SN59AVX.
The trip saw a minor mishap on the steepest corner of the hill however. A vehicle suffered an oil leak ahead of us, leaving a spill, causing our bus to lose traction on the wet, oily asphalt. Our driver showed absolute professionalism traversing the hill, and the hazards the hill presented. An absolute credit to his company.
