Thanks for this, as this is just another beautiful demonstration of the towing capacity of a defender. love the sound of the Turbo too in between gear changes. Awesome.
I remember going up there with a scania 26 tonner to save myself some time. Up the top I pulled over to get a ice cream in the viewing spot. Old fella come over to me and said that was the best driving I’ve ever seen lol
I towed a (hired) 16’ Sprite Major caravan up Porlock hill in 1981, with a 1965 S2a SWB Land Rover, fitted with the 2 ¼ diesel engine. The motor was well worn & we just made using 1st gear high range.
I pulled a similar weight in my 200tdi up a huge hill in lakes, by time I got to the top the temp guage was just near hitting the red. for a time I was close to pulling over to cool off, it was amazing though when I got over the hilltop and picked back up some speed and got the air flowing over the engine again how fast the engine temp came back down to norm operating temp.
Hi! Really good videos on defender towing uphill 🙌 I live in Norway and consider buying 110 td5 for towing mini digger (2t plus trailer 1t)thru the steep tunnels ( steepest part is 8.5%. Length of the incline about 1.8km)😅 do you think 110 td5 cc is a good choice for that type of towing? Thanks in advance for any tips 🙏
Tis a bloody steep hill took my series 2 109 with 750kg trailer down that hill and by the bottom I had no brakes whatsoever due to brake fade this was using engine braking in 2nd with a 200tdi conversion was a little nerve racking at the bottom.
Porlock is on the main A39 road from Minehead to Barnstaple, with a narrow high street, before the winding steep hill, and the constant danger of oncoming vehicles. It must be a lot worse in heavy rain, and winter ice and snow. Who in their right mind would want to live on the narrow main road? It is time a bypass or even a tunnel around Porlock, even if fields and a few pretty cottages have to go.
Probably the most impressive, realistic Land Rover Pull I have ever seen. The turbo blow by is great, sounded raspy like a 5.9 cummins, from far away distance. At the steepest part, were you holding second, at 2,300 rpm? Do you know the boost level of that turbo? Is it a 2.5 liter motor?
its a 2.4 not sure what it boost at 2300 rpm but I know it boost over 15 psi, try this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Of2mY8lbtEw.html
Steeper than it appears Porlock, I came down there many moons ago in a Renault 5 with my son, his 3 friends and all their camping gear, my brakes at the bottom were close to fire! Also, i'm a V8 man, but that diesel does have a fine tone to it. Reminds me of this, fast forward to 16:15..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VB_zLWpjuBA.html
Bro going up that hill, on the second head pin, we got stuck behind a land rover who couldn't get up. His wheels were smoking and we had to burn tires to get to the top and help him. Never doing that again
Mark Ward sounds lethal good tidy jeep have you done any walk around vids? I'm after a series 2a to build with An iveco 3.0 in it and discovery axels. I have subaru legacy mk3 an it tows my ferguson no problem with the low box on steep hills it's hard on petrol though
