Bush hogging a steep slope. This location did work on my nerves some. King Kutter rotary mower from Rural King attached to a Kubota M6060.

Thanks Ben for your time and commitment to putting out good content. I have a M6060 being assembled now and currently have a l3301. I'm very pleased with it except the lift capacity wasn't quite large enough for my needs. The M6060 should remedy that. Your videos bring back memories on the farm, haying, brush hogging and countless other chores on tractors.

I’m new to the whole tractor world and bought my first Kubota end of last summer. I mowed my new small piece of property with a walk along bush hog end of last summer and said never again. The brush was as tall as I am and it was brutal work. My hills are so steep I couldn’t even finish. So bought the 1988 Kubota L2850 still in great shape with a 72” center mower. I would rather use a rear mower and do away with the center but don’t know how far a rear mower will articulate down like when the tractor gets to the top of a steep hill and levels off will that make the rear mower lift and not mow the top of the hill??? Same going down, as the tractor goes down will the mower raise off the ground and not mow the top of the flat section??? I would rather use a rear mower to free up the tractor for other activities and just get rid of the center mower.
@khtractors
@khtractors 4 месяца назад
Yes if it’s a steep enough slope the rear mower will lift off the ground like that. If it’s not too extreme you’ll be ok. Thanks for watching

A week ago, I realized I"m not as brave as I think I am. I tried to plow out an area on rolling hills. After 3 hours and not much progress, I gave up and went back to the barn. I know there are 300lbs of washer fluid in each of the rear tires and another 250/300 lbs on the front with the bucket. Still, I could not overcome the fear that I was going to turn the tractor over.
@khtractors
@khtractors 2 года назад
Baby steps! It’s takes time to adjust to the feel of the tractor on hills. If you feel uncomfortable stop just like you did. I’ve been doing this type stuff since I was very young. @khtractors
@khtractors Год назад
I don’t have wheel spacers, just have the wheels adjusted to the widest setting. I don’t really recommend adding weight to the loader on steep hills because if you get turned sideways it could cause you to be less stable due to the front axle swivel. Fluid filled tires and wheel weights add the best stability. Thanks for watching

I noticed that Ben replied to one viewer that keeping the bucket low helps detect stumps and large rocks. Also, I think it helps protect the front of the tractor when mowing tall bushes and brush. @@khtractors I will soon as I’m on the property again, but it’s steep enough where I’m scared to drive up the steepest part. lol I drive my old 1990Toyota 4x4 up it but I’m not sure about the tractor on it. I picked up the tractor after bush hogging it with one of those walk behind bushhogs. Wasn’t able to get the steepest part because It took everything out of me trying to manhandle that thing. I remember thinking never again, I’m buying a 4wd tractor. A friend finished it for me while I was out of towns picking up the tractor. Gonna be scary going up it the first time.

Well the trouble is if I do that then when I lift it up the tail wheel won’t come off the ground. This hitch geometry on the Kubota and flex hitch on the mower doesn’t really work well together. Appreciate the suggestion

If on a hill Slashing/bush hogging 5-7ft grass, do I need to use the clutch at all when trying to change direction from reverse going up the hill to forward to go back down?
@khtractors

Depends on your tractor, if it’s a hydraulic shuttle then no you don’t need the clutch. On a steep spot I’ll hit the brakes while shifting so the tractor doesn’t roll between shifting.

Yes fluid, no on spacers. I have my wheels adjusted out as wide as they on the rear and one setting from the widest on the front.
@tractortalkwithgary1271
@tractortalkwithgary1271 2 года назад
@@khtractors , I noticed that you have the cast iron wheel weights too. You are pretty much set up nearly as good as you can be. I am a big fan of fluid in the rear tires. I bought a tractor at a farm auction one time that had fluid in the front tires. Not sure the reasoning there. It wasn’t at all light in the front. I did away with the fluid when I changed the fronts. Involved a whole lot of cleaning up of the wheels. The fluid was calcium chloride. I no fan of that product. Rim Guard is much easier on the wheels and is close to the same weight but tends to get a bit thick in our northern winter climate.
@khtractors
@khtractors 2 года назад
@@tractortalkwithgary1271 my Farmtrac tractor has fluid filled front tires. It helps keep the front end down more then one would think. I have right at 1,000 lbs of cast weights on the rear of the Kubota plus the fluid. It definitely sticks to the ground good.
@tractortalkwithgary1271
@tractortalkwithgary1271 2 года назад
@@khtractors You bet Ben. What I really like about the fluid is that it puts the weight right down where the tire bites. Where the rubber meets the road, so to speak. I have been told that my theory doesn’t hold water. That weight is weight. I still believe fluid weight is my favorite choice.
