Thinking about that heat problem that’s very interesting. We are in Florida and every house that we’ve lived in if you didn’t have the air-conditioning on - from solar gain the house gets way hotter than the outside. Maybe 10 degrees more. Only in our new house we currently live in does it hold the temperatures. I left a thermometer inside during construction and while it got humid, I didn’t see temperatures above 79 degrees. It was reaching 88 peaks outside during the days at that point. So, the thermal mass is working and the radiant barriers/insulation and low emissivity materials are working. However, our previous homes relied on the air conditioning to make it actually livable. We’ve found it’s inexpensive to fix that problem with regular old materials.

We know climates in areas go through cycles over the course of decades. It’s proven by observation and well known. Whether we’re prepared for it is another thing.

50 million people are at risk for deadly heat exposure if they have a 48 hour power outage. 7:00 mark. I knew this was true I didn’t know how big the number was

So given that the dishwasher and hot water tank are highly likely to develop problems with microbes, what methods do you recommend for cleaning and sanitizing them? I know that water temperature has to be above a certain point in order to kill Legionella but what other options are available for other pathogens?

I grew up in Hawaii and people always say Oh it rained every day... I tell them that it rarely ever rained and in fact we get more rain here in TX than where we did in Hawaii. I was on Mauna Loa the day before it erupted in 84. I see those CO2 numbers on that meter on an aircraft. Those numbers will read drastically higher than actual without an altitude correction which is a rough 3%per 1000'. So reduce the indicated number by about 24% ad cabin altitude is roughly 8000'. Then you also get oddities because at high altitude co2 is at higher density because it's colder. Then that air is pumped into the plane to pressurize it which is around 13psi. The numbers I have found from various sources brings up actual measurements of 1000-1500 on average. Some of those are third party others are from airline information. At the gate numbers will be high because the ground ac hoses are always kinked limiting airflow. Then during takeoff the outflow valve starts to close and the cabin builds pressure. Then depending on the plane the amount of fresh to recirc air varies 50%ish (737 40%recirc). On the MD80s none of the air is recirculated. And all air is run through HEPA filters. The high recirc air numbers and the filtration is why its very unlikely to pick up airborne illnesses on planes.

Those airplane readings were on the tarmac my man, before the engines even started up. Happens all the time when we fly.

@@HomePerformance Yeah that's a symptom of a big complaint that everyone has. The ground AC packs are usually way undersized and then then the hose running to the plane is too long and ends up being kinked to where maybe 1/3 to half the air is actually going through it. Then the times when you would like to have the APU running for more airflow mainly in the summer... Well if it's an a320 series they tend to have inop APUs. And it varies from gate to gate everywhere and it's not good anywhere.

10:00 you have a choice, a binary one. Either you do or don’t add air conditioning. Do it, unless the school is deliberately deciding not to devote funding to it. In that case the blame lies with the school, nothing else. Schools too cold? This is an easy issue to resolve. It’s not an emotionally taxing conundrum.

Schools in the usa can fill out 10 minutes of paperwork and have heating or a/c put in on the federal governments dime. Been a grant for it since the early 90s.

"extreme heat is the number one weather killer related killer in the US" Says NOAA, not CDC. NOAA uses media reports. CDC uses death certificates in which excessive cold deaths are nearly double excessive heat deaths. Probably because people can find shade and water easier than they can afford heating bills.

CDC also said viruses don’t hang out in the air on aerosols, so you’re safe 6 ft away. Not sure about your stance.

@@HomePerformance I can pick apart NOAA as well but when your blood pressure is higher in winter heart attacks increase. When homeless people sleep on park benches in the summer they're not freezing to death. In the heat you sit down and drink water. In winter you can't stay active 24/7 to keep warm.
