Fascinating information! I recently purchased a house that has sat vacant for several years and it’s ridden with mold. The majority of it being visible on the drywall. Currently in the process of gutting all drywall and insulation and will begin the deep dive into mold remediation. I’m not too concerned with water/moisture issues after we install a new roof, but I might be reaching out to further understand proper moisture control with air barriers as well as help sizing a completely new HVAC system. P.S. We just found the original blueprints hidden in the wall this past weekend!

Hi Corbett, fascinating video! I’m hoping you will do a video on how to protect the wettest location in a house from mold - the area around the tub and/or shower. I know in a previous video you discussed how bad it was to have a tub or shower on an exterior wall (and even more so if it’s located on an exterior corner) because moisture can migrate through the tiles’ grout lines, through the backer board and into the stud cavity where it can condense on the cold surface of the exterior sheathing. One method I’ve seen discussed in order to combat this problem is to build a “room within a room” around the tub or shower - basically you’re building a second interior wall with no cavity insulation and a layer of cement board for the tile against a standard exterior wall that has an interior layer of drywall, studs, cavity insulation and exterior sheathing. I’ve also seen an additional way of improving this “double wall” design by covering the tubs upper walls or the entire shower's walls and ceiling with ¼” thick sheets of Corian and then sealing all of the edges together (in order to eliminate all grout lines). Would you recommend this double wall method for isolating the tub or shower from the exterior walls and/or the Corian lining or do you know of a better method? Thanks for your help!

Who do I contact in my area to try to find why I have a mold problem in my house and how to fix it. I’ve been fighting this for a couple of years and just when I think I have it figured out, I come across more sporadic mold growth… ANY help would be greatly appreciated!
