You may be asking what exactly is “extreme pre-arrival” video? It’s what I am calling video that begins even before the fire starts and captures the earliest stages of the fire - before alarms sound and anyone is even aware there is a fire.

I hope everyone (including animals) were all ok :( I remember when a neighbor of mine had their house catch on fire. It was a smaller home with a front and back door. They were elderly the man turned on the deep fryer to make french fries then realized they were out so he ran to the store but didn't turn off the deep fryer. His wife was bed bound and left there alone. The back door was completely engulfed in flames since that was where the kitchen was. We tried and tried and tried to break down the front door, busted out windows, etc but couldn't get in. The poor woman and their dog died before the man even got back from the store. We found out they had put a couch in front of their front door and that's why we were unsuccessful in getting in. I still remember the children and grandkids showing up and collapsing in the middle of the street when they were told their mother/grandmother was still inside after an hour of the fire department trying to put out the fire :( Please, don't block your windows and doors with furniture or anything else!

This is awful!! I cannot imagine! Doggy doors are important, too! When I was 13 our house burned & our small dog died from smoke inhalation, under the bed. That killed us more than anything. Now we ALWAYS have a doggy door & leave it open. Yes there are cons to having a doggy door but the pro’s outweigh them.

People don't realize how long a fire can be burning undetected. When our home burned down, it started in the attic. No smoke entered the living areas of our home until the bedroom ceilings collapsed. No smoke, no smoke detector alerts. My dad had been packing for a business trip, and when he went outside to load up the car, he heard the crackling of the roof that was completely engulfed. Had he not been outside at that time, we wouldn't have know until the collapse.

This is very interesting, and a good example of just how fast things can get out of control. I first noticed flames in the upper left corner of the opening in the garage at 19:15. This is why I always check the house if I smell smoke. One day last spring I was in the garage with the door open working on my bike and I smelled smoke. To me it smelled like wood burning, or trees or thought it could be a house, but brushed it off. A few mins later my wife came out to the garage and said she plugged something into a kitchen outlet and it sparked, now she smelled smoke and it was warm. I ran inside and thought maybe there was a short inside wall, and the outlet was warm to touch, I immediately removed the outlet cover and could smell the short. That coupled with the smoke I smelled outside I thought there could be fire in the walls. I called 911 to be safe. They came right away and used thermal imaging to check behind the walls and didn't find anything. It turns out that the smoke I was smelling was a brush fire and when my wife came out to tell me about the short I assumed it was from that. I panicked, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I was thankful for the fire fighters and police that arrived quickly and since it was Sunday my wife was cooking dinner at the time, We tried to feed the first responders. They all politely declined our offer.

Good job! From the time of seeing the first person on the street noticing the fire to setting the air brakes of the first unit was 6 minutes. The Captain jumped off and did a 360 walk around the structure. The Engineer secured the water source and waited for the signal to open the discharge and the FF's pulled the line around the cars to the open garage door. 2nd engine onscene with them for manpower quickly. Water on the fire within 2 minutes from setting the brakes...not too bad. This is a typical video from ignition, to noticing the fire, to calling 911, to onscene arrival of equipment. It seems like forever to unknowing public but, respectable times considering all of the mechanics of getting these wheels in motion to put the fire out! All in all, good job guys!

there is a very important clue for the fire cause at 00:37, the garage door goes up about 1/3. This may have been due to the brief melting of the insulation on wires before the circuit breaker kicked in and shut off. @ 00:37 garage door goes up, caused by a possible short circuit about 20:30 flames show in LH side of garage FIRE HYDRANT in front of the white house and the first engine charged that line early upon arrival.

We had a house fire last November, just got back to our house a few weeks ago, in time for Christmas. This is such a horrible thing to happen. We were lucky no one was home and even our dog was at the vets. Living in the countryside in a very small village no one was nearby to see any signs and everything in the house was taken by it. I hope the owners get thorough the next few months to a year ok. It is a really horrific feeling being a victim to this whether big or little damage. Ours was caused by a plug in air freshener getting hot while plugged in and took out the room downstairs and up through the ceiling as it was hours before anyone noticed. Good luck to to owners here and I hope they have people helping them overcome the shock and fear.

I think this a great video for fire investigators to watch. Seeing the drop down in the corner (where the ceiling has finally burned enough to cause combustible materials to fall, starting igniting flammable materials on the floor) is a good lesson for reading burn patterns. Is it fall down or an area of origin? In this case, obviously fall down, but without the video a mistake could be made in the investigation.

@@HuntGamingProductions I'm not sure why you even said that in the first place though. It didn't even appear as if someone was trying to get in or out - notice that there are two cars already in the driveway, so it's not like someone is pulling in (and nobody drove up), nor would anyone be able to drive out. And even if someone had pushed the button to stop the door midway - let's say they decided not to leave - why would they not have put it back down? No, it's more likely that the door opener had an electrical failure, possibly causing it to start opening on its own, or it was accidentally opened. Either way, it appears from the video that it started to open, something jammed partway and any safety cut-offs failed (or it had an electrical short), it overheated, and eventually caught fire.

I knew something wasn't right when a third of the power in my house stopped working 30 minutes before, and I smelled wood burning (I don't have a fireplace, and the smell wasn't coming from outside). A similar incident happened to my aunt on Christmas Day 2015. Her 2014 Toyata Camry that she only had 3 months. It burned for hours and she didn't know. What alerted her was the Attic ladder that dropped on the hood from being burned. It burned so long that the shell was the only thing left of the car. The domicile portions of the house sustained damage from water and smoke. The garage contained the fire, leaving no trace of other contents. The ironic thing is the fire department is three blocks from her house but 5 minutes before she called in the fire, the Ladder was dispatched on a call. The next station with available Ladder 15 minutes away. The Fire Marshall told my aunt based on what's left of the car, the fire wasn't deliberately set. The engine ignited from underneath the car and burned engulfing the car. Toyota came and removed the car to investigate liability responsibility. Toyota was responsible body. A concrete reason wasn't given due to the engine being completely gone. I can understand how the family was unaware of the fire going on in the garage.

I was amazed at how slow the fire progressed, at least from what I could see in the video. About three weeks ago at approximately 2:30am I was in my home office that faces the street when I heard a "boom" outside. I went to my window and observed a neighbor's side yard fence fully engulfed in flames. I ran outside dialing 911 and went to the front of the house to which there was a portico with an iron gate entrance. There was a doorbell button on the outside and I pushed it numerous times. The neighbor's dogs started barking and about 30 seconds after I started ringing the doorbell the homeowner came out of the house and I yelled to him the side of his house was on fire. He replied he was going to the backyard to get a hose going and I went to the sideyard thinking I could use their garden hose to at least slow the fire down. However, there wasn't a hose attached to the hose bib and I couldn't use the neighbor's outside hose line because it was totally melted at this point. What concerned me was the high heat coming off the fire that not only melted the neighbor's hose about 10' away from the engulfed fence but also his water meter. Also close to the fire was the gas meter and I feared since it was about 5' from the fence fire something bad could happen. At the moment I wasn't thinking about shutting off the gas because honestly, I didn't know where the shut-off valve was located. I decided to run back to my house and retrieve my garden hose. I carried it back to the fire and had a heck of a time connecting it to the hose bib because the heat coming off the fire was intense. Once I succeeded in doing that I then learned there was very little water pressure, the house owner was trying to hose down the fire as well from his backside yard, but we both realized the water pressure sucked. We did the best we could by using the thumb over the hose end until the neighbor was overcome by smoke and had to retreat. I concentrated what little pressure I had on the fence fire that by this time had reached the roof eves and into two of the eve soffits. I could see the fire was entering the attic like a blow torch so I targeted the soffits and alternated between them and the gas meter, attempting to keep it cool. The neighbor went back into his house to secure his four dogs and cat with his wife and mother-in-law. They got their pets away from the house and what seemed like forever, the fire department's first engine arrived around that time. Both the neighbor and I were concerned by the slow response time, but we learned later the fire department was short-handed and ran only two firemen per engine. However, a mutual aid call was put out and suddenly about five additional engines showed up from various fire jurisdictions in the region. The fire was brought under control, but it was spreading very quickly in the attic and had burned 90% of the interior three-car garage roof. When I mentioned the blow torch entry of the fire via the soffits, I'm sure a suction effect took place from the entry and was drawn to the opposite end of the house since you could see smoke coming out of soffits there and also from roof vents. The house was uninhabitable with the utility meters burned up and we also learned the flames melted the water line that ran through the garage attic, thus no water pressure at the hose bibs. The water lines were made of synthetic material, they melted. The neighbor thanked me a number of times for alerting them at that time of night because their bedroom was located on the opposite end of the fire and they had no idea when I woke them up their house was on fire. A major restoration is now in progress and it will be three to six months before they can move back in. I'm just glad I was awake at that hour of the night, but that isn't unusual for me because I'm a night owl.

@@shaynak745 it's the battery typically used in radio controlled airplanes, drones and some lawn equipment like trimmers, blowers and some lawn mowers. I believe li- po stands for lithium polymer. I think the chargers have safety devices built in nowadays but I am definitely not taking any chances. I actually store my batteries in a old empty steel ammo container. If anything goes wrong with them it's all contained and will not spread. If I remember correctly they were the reason the early laptop computers were catching fire but they have since then been made alot safer. There is also lithium ion batteries as well. Our house is adobe and concrete. Our walls are 2 feet thick. We have double windows even. I'd never buy a house that was built nowadays. Way too flimsy, and not worth the money the developers want for them. I'll keep my 70 year old house, thank you. (Jan Griffiths).

This fire department has no respect for the extremely important rule of mandatory walking aroung the burning building for at least five minutes before starting to pour water on it.

People tend to wait too long to call 911. We had a fire in the dining room, drapes lit on fire, called 911, then the big fire extinguisher from the garage, fire trucks arrived w/in 8 minutes. Only $9k in damage.

To the comments that say throw a blanket or bucket of water on the fire, there was light smoke from I believe three minutes til the first flames were seen. The motor did probably cause the the fire and the first thing that burned was the ceiling into the attic. That's why the smoke was coming out from the eves of the eaves of the house. Eventually falling burning debris set things on the floor of garage on fire.

To have a hydrant right next door helped big time in getting full blast water on it right away... Normally you see them running around hooking water up as other firefighters are trying to conserve water as they are fighting the fire with the truck's limited water supply.
@benjaminsorenson
@benjaminsorenson 4 года назад
Sure, a hydrant is excellent to have next to a home. Still, a fire engine comes with several hundred gallons of water on the truck already so that water can be put on the home much sooner than a connection being made with the hydrant and waiting for that connection.

@briansmyla8696 3 года назад
That first in engine had enough water on board to knock it down and pretty much extinguish what was there. Hydrant was convenient but not needed.

Always have a Dry Chemical (ABC) fire extinguisher ((on the floor by the main door)), if you are in a burning structure, you'll be crawling out and you'll see the fire extinguisher and know your at the door to get out.

Almost looks like when people noticed the fire at that point a garden hose may have knocked a good deal of the fire down.
@briansmyla8696

A garden hose can be a very effective tool. It may not be enough to extinguish a fire, but it is definitely enough to keep it from growing and spreading.
@stacytaddiken7634

That's what I was thinking... or maybe someone had a fire extinguisher? They just stood there, I would've gotten a hose and at least kept it from getting worse until the fire department came.

Same thought. Now that I think about it.. those lawns have sprinkler systems..
@R32R38
@R32R38 2 года назад
@@djslip_irie Not just that, but because this was winter (January 2, 2017) in a cold weather area, any neighbors who had garden hoses would have shut off their outside water supply weeks earlier and most likely stored the hoses away. In any event, the only hoses which might have been long enough to reach the fire area would have been on the houses to either side, and even that might not have worked.

I saw a fire on a back porch of an apartment compex starting to climb the wooden exterior walls and engulfing a patio chair. It was late at night and there was a small field between my car and the building. I just honked, flashed lights and yelled until the neighbors came out. The apartment owner I saw through the glass was scared and did not do anything. The neighbor was losing his cool shouting I don't have a bucket!! So I said Get your trashcan! The man was able to douse enough water on the wall to keep the fire somewhat contained, all the while I just encouraged him and kept a level head while on the phone with 911. I said Way to go man You're a hero! And drove off when I heard the fire trucks around the corner. 🎉

I always wondered why they don't place smoke detector in the garage with a LOUD speaker in the middle of the living quarters of the house. That way you know then garage potion is on fire. I assume we have this technology but never seen one in all the houses I have bought and sold via flipping etc.
