Extreme Tools Makes a Compelling Tool Box

There's a lot in this video. I'll show you how to mount a side cabinet to an Extreme Tools RX-Series tool box, then do a deep-dive as I review every inch of the whole assembly. How's it all compare to franchise tool truck brands like Snap-On, Matco, Mac and Cornwell? It'll be difficult to beat the value, and I'll show you why.
Keep watching for bonus content of a conversation Zach and I had about the good and bad of working with vendors.
Shout-outs to two vendors we love doing business with:

Thanks for the video. I have out grown my toolbox and was looking for an economical upgrade. I guess that will have to wait until I find a shop to wrench for again... My Matco 36" MSC-12 split top box is full and has 2 sets of drawer slides messed up, of coarse my local Matco guy is not answering my call or texts so I can't get parts. And I am the type of customer who either pays in full or or paid off in less than 3 months.

These Extreme boxes do seem to be very well made, and might represent the best buy in a good quality tool box, in my opinion. I just can't get myself to pull the trigger, because their branding is so over the top and adolescent. Don't they make the same high quality boxes branded for GearWrench? Is that line of boxes still available? Thanks for your great content!
@CoyleTools
@CoyleTools 2 года назад
You're correct, Jim. They do make a Gearwrench-branded box. Those are the RX-series, so it's a good medium-grade build on those. Their EX-series pro-grade stuff is very well built and I'd favorably compare it to the Matco 6S ad Snap-On Epiq in terms of quality. In my opinion, Extreme's hutches are the best because they don't have a cross piece in front, so you can't bump your head. And the drawer latches are the nicest, too.

I have been looking at the EX7230 in blue with black handles and stainless top for a few months now. Other than the weight and strength of the chest and a little heavier steel, upgraded casters these are the main differences I see between the EX, RX and DX. Correct me if I'm wrong please. Plus I see the EX is their professional series slash heavy duty tool box. I am unable to locate a review or video on the new stuff.
@CoyleTools
@CoyleTools Год назад
I don't have first-hand familiarity with the DX-series so I can't say for sure, but the RX-series is the mid-tier box and the EX is the heavy duty pro grade box. Your understanding is correct. For a complete going-over of the EX box, watch this video starting at the 20:23 mark: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5Dy6tlvat-Y.html

The handle design is way better than my Homak the framing is better and it sounds like you're able to retail them at very good prices. I forget if it's the extreme tool box but they have a 84" x 30" that's probably going to be my next box.

Whats the resale value on these? If i buy this for $5k but can only sell it for $2.5k used after a year…but can buy a used snap on for $5k and sell it for $4500 after a year, theres a better value. What is the warranty like for these?
@CoyleTools
@CoyleTools 6 месяцев назад
You can say the same about the resale value of a car, yet you bought of those. Plus that used Snap-On box comes without a warranty, for whatever that's worth. Ultimately, buy whichever box fits your budget and sits well with your philosophy. I didn't make this video to convince you to buy it. I made it to show you the box and tell you about a brand you may not be familiar with.

You picked up a Husky box for your own garage. Curious why you didn't go with Extreme? I guess I fall in the prosumer market. I work on a lot of things, automotive and around the house, but I'm not a professional. EXTools boxes seem to fit my niche very well. Of course I'd like the 30" deep pro line, but I actually prefer the 21" depth to maximize my working space opposite the box.
@CoyleTools
@CoyleTools 2 года назад
The Husky is far less expensive. It's only $400 and it's built well enough for my application. The Extreme is overkill and I couldn't afford it. When you're the tool truck, you don't have a tool truck you can make payments to.
@lskynard87
@lskynard87 2 года назад
@@CoyleTools lol well that is a good point. By December, I intend to have my garage rearranged entirely, a new tool box included. I'm torn between saving for an Extreme setup, possibly making payments, or outright buying the 52" Husky or the hutch setup from Husky. I really want a hutch, but I can make do without.
@CoyleTools
@CoyleTools 2 года назад
@@lskynard87 You can't go wrong since both are good quality. It's really a matter of preference and budget. Extreme boxes are rated for higher drawer capacities than the Husky boxes, and the drawer latches are excellent. But it's not like the Husky will fall apart.
@lskynard87
@lskynard87 2 года назад
@@CoyleTools I appreciated the video you did basically covering all brands and none of them are just going to vanish into dust overnight, it really is all a budget and personal preference matter. I love the matte black of the industrial Husky boxes, but the blue anodizing with the black base of the Extreme tools is fantastic. Is the latch and the blue trim worth the extra $2-4k though? Tough for me to decide, personally.

I currently have a Matco Proformance series box. It is about identical to its current version of the Matco 4S model. How would you compare this to a Matco 4S?
@CoyleTools
@CoyleTools 3 года назад
They compare favorably. There aren't any differences I can think of that would make me prefer one over the other except the latching system on the Extreme. It's built so well I consider it the best in the industry. But as far as functionality and build quality, both are excellent.

It looks like a nice box but seems a bit on the pricey side. I think I’d have to go with Homak.
@CoyleTools
@CoyleTools 3 года назад
Homak makes good boxes, too. I've always thought they were an under-appreciated brand. But there are reasons for the pricing being what they are. The build quality on the Extreme has a nicer fit and finish than Homak boxes do. Extreme also has size and configuatioin options Homak doesn't offer. With Homak you get a good utilitarian box, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just know that Homak doesn't have an offering on par with this Extreme box, so we can't compare apples to apples.
