When we decided to tackle these vines never knew that it would be so overgrown. It was definitely a learning experience and will say that the home looks great with vines gone. Me and Mark appreciate everyone who watch this video ✌️

Ivy covered buildings always look so pretty and fairy tale like BUT the damage the ivy is causing is not worth the aesthetic beauty of it. I once wanted an ivy covered home and my husband instantly said "ivy will get in the cracks and ruin it" and that put an end to that. Nice job and thanks for sharing!

I would only have ivy growing up on a wire fence around my yard. Kept trimmed and under control it can be beautiful and provide privacy. I would never plant or allow any to grow next to the house for this exact reason! You showed great patience in dealing with this and I commend you for that. You worked hard and diligently! Nice job!! Thank you for the video! God Bless you and your family!

having vines like this on a house is a 'thing', frank. on the corner of west end and 91st St there is a 15 story bldg covered in vines. its beautiful. the downside is its part of the bldg now and if they ever remove it they will have to rebrick that entire side. i dont like to own properties like this i just like to admire them. :0)

When I first moved into my house I pulled a massive vine off it with my truck. Cut above the root and tied a strap to the trunk. Constant pressure peeled the whole slab off the house slowly. The small roots left onto the brickwork though, I'm still cleaning them off 15 years later as I'm repainting.

Thanks for this video otherwise I would have never seen such a large English Vine. That's a once in a life time experience. I know there are plenty of them on sides of old castles and manors but those are always groomed and trained and kept in 'their' place and I have yet to see someone video one up close to show the size of their stem - huge trunk. Still, they do damage to the building. As much as I wish it could have continued to exist, the cost to repair the damage to the home would only increase. It was so grown into the structure of the house it was beyond grooming and training to save the house. I imagine some trimming was done over the years or the window would have been obscured. That was quite another large piece trailing off down the side of the house. Thanks, again.

For the remaining bits maybe speak with someone familiar with the best way to eliminate the leftover mess. I would have been tempted to spray something on it to kill new growth and hopefully allow easier removal. When I was a teenager a neighbor hired a bunch of us to remove vines growing on his brick house. Here in Georgia snakes frequently take-up residence in those situations. We worked for about an hour before snakes became visible. That was it for us. We didn't know if they were poisonous or not but we decided not to continue. That's risky, grueling work. Thank goodness only a sting, scratches and sore muscles were the accumulative damage. (I had heard it helped to cut notches in the vine structure and pour boiling hot water containing dissolved rock salt was helpful. We did that about 10 days before we tackled the project. We couldn't determine if it helped, we were not there long enough. I refused to deal with RoundUp.)

Soapy water will easily and safely get rid of bees. Use a garden sprayer or a bucket pour from the roof. They are beneficial insects, but unless a beekeeper is willing to remove the hive there's nothing else you can do at this point. Great work pulling down that vine monster.

Hi Mark, Question: I also have a 48” scag tiger cub. 20 years old. The problem I’m having now is when I try to start it nothing happens except a one click coming from the solenoid. Don’t know if it’s bad or not. Sometimes it does start up. I have replaced the key ignition, cleaned all safety switches and even bought a new module, interlock.$130 bucks 😫 my book of knowledge manual doesn’t have a part number for the solenoid switch. I’m not a electrician on this stuff. Hoping you have a better knowledge of this and can help me out. If not no problem, I’ll carry it to the dealership. Thank you for your time👍 Allen

Here are two bits. My husband suggested a Saws-all would be a good piece of equipment to get into narrow places and potentially cut from the back. I was thinking that the crack the trunk leveraged should be addressed, even if on an emergency level, so that wasps, bees, water don't get in. It was protected by the trunk and leaves to some degree and is now open. Don't know what structural damage the ivy's leverage actually did of itself.

Hate that you got stung by bees, but surely don't stop the project. Don't allow the bees to win. Time to take the bees out as well. I often wondered why anyone allows any type vegetation to grown on their home. The damage that causes is not pretty by any stretch... I wonder if a multi-tool with an aggressive blade would work with the vines. You can get into very tight areas with one and cut through most anything with them. Just an idea. Thumbs Up!

@Marksmisfitworld
@Marksmisfitworld 3 года назад
We quit asking people to move their cars years ago, not worth the attitude we get for inconveniencing them we just work around the cars.
