I am sorry Ryan, but this is not a strong review. We can all read the specs and repeatedly saying them is not enough. It is a good thing you noted that cpu is old, but it is not clear if it has enough power without running some apps/games/general use and bringing your thoughts on its performance would be usefull. Frankly, after this review I have a bit of idea about the matt screen and no idea at all if it suits me or not.

I thought it was me. From the start, I thought, man, this guy has a vendetta against this device without taking the time to review it. I waited but it got no better. I just know he doesn't like the processor.

DO NOT BUY any tablet from TCL, I have the tcl tab 10s and the support is absolutely terrible, Multi touch which should be a basic feature is terrible making any game that uses two finger unplayable and instead of recalling the tablets they just put out a newer version, the tablet has 1 small update with 0 major updates and the support team won't help you with anything, DO NOT BUT TABLETS FROM TCL

For note taking, reading and media consumption this seems like a good deal. Around $250 for the tablet and another $40 for the pen is not a bad deal imo. If I can get a solid 3 years outta this thing then I call it a win. The 5 year old processor is concerning. My only question is what the OS experience is like. Is it stock Android? As long as the OS is optimized then you can make older processors still feel plenty fast. You dont need much these days unless you're a power user, in which case you're not even looking this direction. But I think for the average person like myself this would be a good buy.

The Lenovo P11 Pro Gen 2 is a better deal for roughly same price. OLED screen, better cpu, 120 refresh rare, etc.

@@fataldawg Those are two different device goals. TCL Is blending an e-reader with a tablet for easy-on-the-eyes type reading. The Lenovo OLED will burn your eyes out eventually.

I think it's a cool option. At this price, the display looks interesting and the Mediatek chip in the device will also work for most users.

Would have purchased one if the aspect ratio is 4:3 like the iPad, I just don't get why they made this a wide (or ultra wide?) form factor that is meant to be used horizontally for movies and games, which is not why people purchase this. Clearly people want this just for reading alone, not movie or games, I choose the iPad over any other tablet because its just too narrow and long when you are holding it vertically to read. What a waste of opportunity.

Dude, most people are complete idiots who can't read books, they can only watch videos (and mostly they watch short videos). That's why manufacturers make wide video screens for idiots. Even on a reading tablet, most people will not read, but watch videos. I can draw a graph of the function IQ versus the aspect ratio of the tablet screen.

I prefer tablets for Kindle, comic book reading, & Magazines, but it has to be a good size Tablet. The iPad mini won't cut it and if it's too big then it can be unbearable. The mat finish is an attractive feature and the battery life is a plus. Quite honestly, I think older tablets should be used as mounted control panels in houses or apartments.

@@Milleniumlance Agreed, as TCL has never been a brand that inspires confidence, I'd go for a Nokia T10, or Nokia T20 tablet if you need a solid budget tablet, but not one that's too cheap that's total junk.

I honestly don't really get people who use tablets - for any kind of media consumption, a large smartphone does the job. The thing phones are actually missing isn't the size but the input devices, a real mouse and keyboard make all the difference, and then I just use a notebook.

I work for a non profit for seniors, and had a couple of my clients get sold TCL phones from Best Buy who are on Verizon prepaid, and they had nothing but issues not even being able to make calls, and send text till they each got a 3rd replacement that finally worked. I've been nothing but happy with my Nokia T20 Tablet, and my Nokia G50 phone after the latest Android 13 update that fixed all the lags, and other issues.
