As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home ru-vid.comUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

Yes, some people need to understand that dogs and even cats are just as complex mentally as humans are. They have a wide range of emotions too, they get frustrated and stressed too. They are not as far from us in their intelligence as most people assume. We need to treat them according to that. It could help to imagine them as aliens from another world and we're both trying our best to communicate with eachother. It seems that people like Dog Daddy has come the closest to getting through to them with calm but firm discipline and reward only in the right moments. I hope every dog owner will learn to be like them.

Dog looked like it was on duty 24/7. Im not a trainer but i would say something happened where the dog feels the owner is weak and needs protected. It could also be nervous energy from the owner. He is actually very obedient when given commands. If the owner made it clear he was okay and a new person okay the dog would probably soon leave off.

Some folks with these reactive dogs openly or secretly or subconsciously relish the power of a pet that would eat everyone except themselves. Often in these videos they r laughing n joking n shrugging off how pet bit or nipped mailman or family member or friend. My dad dominated all the dogs in our neighborhood n saved many a child from bites. We would be having chill time n then banging on our door or yelling of his name or just plain hysterical screaming. This young man is doing important work, dog bites to children are too common to be so easily preventable

A good technique to make people more receptive to a huge flow of new information is to have a different type of conversation. Instead of solely sending / explaining a lot, ask structured questions after each new batch of information so they can give you the correct answer. This way, they remember it better, they have a chance to process in between and you are able to check if they fully understand and they're still following along. Some people have trouble remembering information when a lot of other "important stuff" around them is going on at the same time, like here with the dog. Some people might be fine there. For this guy it seems he could have benefited from a more structured, coaching-based dialogue.

The dog really "wanting" to exhibit the desired behavior and therefore getting praise, belly rubs, etc is better. Relying on treats alone gives the dog the impression that the ONLY reason to be "good" is for treats. What do you do in the absence of treats?

I appreciate the old man yearning for the companionship and taking in such a beautiful dog. I also commend him for taking the time to properly train the dog and himself. However I do believe this loving tank is sensing the old man's inability to protect himself. As well as the dog never really getting to meet/greet others. The man is most likely a loner. With that being said idk if you could retrain a situational truth! They have a bond and the dog is going to do what he feels is right in protecting his best friend. But often I see too many ppl do what they want instead of what's best for the dogs needs! This dog needs a youthful man and or woman!...who can match the dogs physical strengths, and give him the exercise and discipline he needs. I hope I'm wrong and wish them both the total best outcome. Just my 2 cents from an avid dog caretaker.

That’s looking to deeply into the behavior from a “dog whisperer’s” lens and alot of Cesar’s rhetoric always ties back to dominance and focuses way to much on the dynamic between dog and man and neglects the power positive reinforcement has in the same situations. Both are necessary in some ways. You do not need to be physically imposing, strong or able bodied to keep a large aggressive breed under control. I have 4 giant german shepherds and a belgian malinois, all of notorious breeds for aggression and police/military work. I am a combat wounded veteran with one working leg and i’m skin and bones, however my dogs are excellently trained by me (mostly due to my dogs hard work and their desire to please, just great dogs) 2 of them are service dogs that go wherever I require them to and I have even done work for other veterans service animals. My secret isn’t being physically capable of defending myself or restraining my dogs, it is giving them the trust to do the right thing and therefore they sense no anxiety from me that may cause them to misread my behavior and do something foolish. Constant corrections without letting even the small things go and being very generous with my love and treats when I am getting the desired behavior. The lack of constant direction and correction both physically and verbally over a long period of time have developed this behavior to the point it is now a big problem. He also lacks a strong “presence” that demands obedience and once again you don’t need to be The Rock and physically imposing to gain obedience through simply being involved. At the same time I do not know this dog, all I have are 12 minutes of edited footage. So potentially I am completely incorrect, but my experience tells me otherwise.

@FormerGovernmentHuman
@FormerGovernmentHuman 2 года назад
“Aggression” in pupps is fine and natural. If they aren’t playing then address it, correct it or redirect it. A 7 week old puppy should be growling, barking biting, we can’t develop and shape a behavior if we aren’t seeing behaviors and all of those “aggressions” are signs of a happy, confident and often purely playful dog. You get several very clear signals when you are dealing with truly aggressive behavior. Heckles raised, posturing, low snarling growl; full teeth exposure and even then these same signs can be misread and can just as easily be an example of insecurity and a lack of socialization and anxiety. It comes down to truly knowing your dog in the end. But I just doubt you are dealing with a fight drive or intent to harm or even malice in a 7 week puppers. However now is the time to socialize them repeatedly and encourage the behavior you want to see with his interactions with dogs, humans and other animals. If you are dealing with actual aggression in such a youngling and typical positive methods don’t work, then don’t be afraid to interrupt the behaviors physically with a quick soft swat, a pinch or anything else that doesn’t harm them but enforces your role in the hierarchy and what you expect of them. If for some reason they respond negatively to that, you double down. Do NOT HURT THEM, simply physically correct them until you get desired results and they know this is not acceptable.
@NatureAndBee
@NatureAndBee 2 года назад

Exactly! This dog was on the way to being destroyed. I hope the owner keeps up the training. Zack George really believes treats are the key. The key is establishing the fact that the person is ALWAYS IN CHARGE. 12 years ago my sister adopted a rescue dog 5 years old from a hoarding situation where it wasn’t log of the jungle. She took him to PetSmart because they were “CERTIFIED” Trainers and after all I wasn’t certified so what could I possibly know? Week after week Moku got worse and worse. I kept asking when is Moku supposed to get better.. at a point she was thinking of putting him down. So I said are you going to let me train him or do you have to kill him. When I started the dog was completely feral and going potty all over the house. He was wearing a muzzle a lot of the time. First I suggested she get a crate appropriate for his size. First thing I did was put him ON HIS BACK (a submissive podsr) every single time he challenged me I wrestled him back into submission I had her feed him in his crate to avoid link to punishment Then I potty trained him in 48 hours. Every 3-4 hours he was let out of the crate to go potty OUTSIDE. Then he had the run of the house for 30 minutes or so and back in the crate After 48 hours he was completely potty trained, and in 6 weeks I had taught him to sit, stay, come, lie down, leave it, no go in his crate on command, stay ( I would leave a treat on the floor and he wouldn’t touch the treat until he. Was given permission to get it. When joni asked how I was able to train Moku when the “CERTIFIED” trainer was a complete failure. He (trainer at PetSmart” was taught stuff that doesn’t work on dominant and aggressive dogs. I had had dogs since the 1960s. And I understand how dogs think. When a puppy gets out of line the alpha dot teaches it a lesson the puppy won’t forget too soon. When he acted up I corrected the behavior. When he was good I rewarded the behavior with good boy, petting, rubbing behind the bears where he can’t scratch; When he accepted me as the alpha dog permanently the battle was essentially won. Moku died of kidney failure at the ripe old age of 16 years and 4 months he even allowed me to give him the weekly injections of .9% saline. Kidney failure the toxins build up in the kidneys. Saline flushes the kidneys and helps remove some of those toxins.

Why does homie have 2 different collars and a harness? That prong collar has way too many links in it as well. Most people shouldn’t own bull breeds, or mastiffs, or working dogs if they’re not willing to do the work or be responsible. This guy is a victim of the “don’t bully my breed” campaign, just like the 42 people who were killed last year and the countless children who were disfigured (up25%). Anyone can just walk into a shelter and get a dog capable of killing people, children, other dogs. It shouldn’t be that easy. Stop lying about dog breeds, be honest about all working dogs and dog attacks would drop dramatically. Shelters wouldn’t be full of bulls, GSDs, Mals, etc..

You're now The Dog Whisperer's youngest version. You truly are blessed with a gift and using it to become the change needed. I had a rescue pit bull who had mild dog aggression. I took her to a trainer who charged me $700. The trainer printed lessons for me to complete daily. It was a joke on me and my dog. The trainer went on to say the raw, premium diet sold by a former police dog trainer was contributing to issues. I studied the footage of Cesar and worked hard with my dog. I bought her a prong collar and diligently trained. I wish you had been available. She has passed of old age now. There are very few trainers who understand aggression. I am astonished by your calm. You can expand your training everywhere. I would consider hiring premium trainers at some point and have schools in all States.

If owners could realize that this behavior is not good FOR THEIR PET, they might stop "admiring the mean behavior". These dogs are not "bad ass dogs", they are desperately unhappy and afraid. They are living on "fight or flight" all the time. A mannered submissive dog does not mean he is a weak dog. It is sad how many owners want Pitbull dog BECAUSE they are "Junk Yard dogs". This is not fair to the dog. Of course we all know too that in an instant these strong untrained dogs could kill someone or something. Ultimately, many Pitbulls are being misused and abused.

I have raised 3 doberman pitchers and anytime you have a strong breed like this you must start training them when they are puppies. You must let them know that you are in control and never let them think you're weak and they must protect you. Socialize them as puppies with other dogs and people on all ages. You can't allow them to misbehave. The more they get away with and the older they get the bigger the problem will be. Dog Daddy is an expert on dogs frame of mind. This fellow seems sort of in over his head with this dog. The dog seems quite redeemable but it is clear he has no idea that this behavior is not welcome. He thinks he is being good. The key to me is the way Dog Daddy stays so calm and rewards good behavior immediately. It is not a bad dog that needs to be dominated with aggression rather a dog that needs training and clarity. You see people "get rough" with these types of dogs. It does not relax them or work. It scares them and/or makes them more aggressive. Clear commands are key and the hard part, it seems to me, is getting someone who doesn't know what to do handle the dog to change their behavior (as the handler). I wish this owner the best of luck and hope he commits to teaching the dog. He seems a bit timid at present for the task at hand. But we all can learn!!

So often the owners are not talking all the time to the dog, like the Dog Daddy does. The dogs listen to Dog Daddy and they like being talked to, so listening makes them pay attention to the handler and makes them feel part of a team which is how dogs live naturally with a leader of the pack. And dogs are very vocal so being vocal and talking to them all the time keeps them co operating with you.
