Thank you so much to my big brother Linh for making this happen. Also thank you so much to this family for taking me in and making me feel like family. I was so happy to get to meet everybody and taste delicious flavors which I have never tasted before.

Just a guy from Arkansas chasing his dreams of traveling the world, meeting amazing people, and trying all the delicious food I can find!
I am from a small farm in the states, I am now taking advantage of the opportunities I have to travel the world in search of some of the most delicious foods, unique places, and friendliest people.
A lover of street food, good laughs, and learning about other cultures. I hope to indulge in all these things and more as I bring you along with me on my epic journeys.

Oh. My. God. I’m speechless! I’ve been a guest of the Ly Quoc Thang family many times, both at the guesthouse and as lunch stop on the way back in from the Loop. It's good to see them looking so well and characteristically full of those positive vibes. For dinner they sometimes have an amazing bbq pork with a rub containing mắc khén (IIRC). It’s one of my favorite dishes in Vietnam. Although I’m stuck in the US for now, my heart is sitting at a table with this wonderful couple ❤️

Seriously, this type of journey/exploration is much better (I mean, much more special) than a Saigon/Hanoi tour for sure, for Saigon/Hanoi is already famous, for you get to see more of the people from rural area and look into their kitchen, which is hard for many foreigners to find on the media, even for many Vietnamese like me. Looking at their kitchen, it reminds me of my grandmother's house in Ha Nam province (below Hanoi). Some people say that they want to unsubcribe from your channel because they are bored of watching Vietnamese food, but I'm sure that they will regret it because they can't see the beauty of place like Ha Giang, through your camera lens, everything looks wayyy more beautiful (like a movie). To be honest, a lot of Vietnamese people like me couldn't have access to see the lives of people from place like Ha Giang, that's why this video is so special. Life in big cities like Hanoi and Saigon, there are too many ways to see. 5:40, I can even hear the wind. This is the type of family meal (eat rice in a small bowl with chopsticks and many side dishes) that I've always craved for when I'm living in the States. The "Dao" people is one of the 54 ethnics groups in Vietnam.
@HongNguyen-ve6gt

Absolutely agree👍
@doodahgurlie
@doodahgurlie 3 года назад
The people talking about unsubscribing probably are other ethnic groups and mad theirs is not being showcased as both Sonny and Max live in Vietnam so they show a lot of Vietnamese videos. That pisses peeps off so they thumbs down and made comments like that. No worries, Max, you're viewership numbers vs your subs number is really high for a normal youtube channel, which is telling. Keep going as you're doing great!

Glad you understand rice comes first in all meals. In hard times/past times rice was most important crop in sustaining life. However, in the past, there were bouts of drought, which would make it difficult to farm and survive. Therefore, rice is fundamentally and symbolically ‘life’ for many 🤗

I think Max has beaten 95% of Vietnamese people to know how the Daos live and cook their food. Most of us know that they live on a spectacular landscape of great mountains and valleys, that they often live close to the Hmongs but will not inter-marry, as a Dao girl once told us: "người Dao và người Hmong kết bạn nhưng không kết hôn" (Dao and Hmong people can befriend but can not marry each other). The reason is still unclear, maybe Max can find this out for us. We know that they use water buffalos (trâu) to farm and little black hogs (heo núi) for food. They have an advanced irrigation system to plant crops on mountains' slopes which they manually cut into beautiful terraces. The Dao has white skin whereas the Hmong has darker skin. Many Dao girls work as guides in the tourist industry and marry caucasian tourists, eventually settle in Europe and the US. The last time I went to Sapa, the food was way below par, Pho tasted atrocious and almost uneatable on a foggy morning crying out for a bold of steaming soup. The pork dish made from the black hog was tough to chew and tasted unlike any "Thịt Kho nước mắm" you have eaten in Hanoi, in other words very bad. I guess you can't expect too much cuisine from people who live on top of mountains all year round. However, the Scenery is breathtaking and worth experiencing before you die, eh Max? 😊😊😊

Wow, this seems very interesting, I was searching for Vietnam and been there a few times, but the ethnic groups topic is one of my must-try list in Vietnam, are they-those ethnic groups have very different cultures and lifestyle? Just wondering
@toothybeaver5579
@toothybeaver5579 3 года назад
@@linhmeongunuong Yes, these ethnic groups existed in VN for thousands of years, spreading from the Yunnan of China called "Thập Vạn Đại Sơn" (the region of 100,000 great mountains). When you get to Sapa you'll know why it's called such. They live on top of those mountains forever and have their own cultures and way of life. Some of their women can reach the beauty of the top of this world. Here is an example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gtpgCHRHBHw.html. That why many western backpackers have fallen head overheal in love with them, to the point of marrying and take them back home.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RyDcnINqr_Y.html&ab_channel=V%E1%BB%80MI%E1%BB%80NT%C3%82YB%E1%BA%AEC. 😍😍😌
