The Gothenburg knit top from Itch to Stitch is VERY EASY to sew with only 3 pattern pieces, 8 simple steps and a great fit with BUST CUP SIZES. Yes, you read it correct…. Bust cup sizes in a knit top pattern. Hooray! this is GOLD. I made 3 versions with different types of knit fabrics.
I am sharing how to sew it step by step and also go into a fabric discussion because I have a SEWING FAIL to share and it’s all about the fabric choice.

I have a pair of Ponte Roma pants that are over 20 years old (black) and they look as good as the day I bought them. They are mostly polyester and quite heavy so I only wear them in cold weather and tend to wear them when I will be dressed in the same outfit for a long time. They don’t wrinkle or stretch out so I can be assured of not looking sloppy at the end of the day.

Hi, Karina. I am so glad to know I am not the only weirdo who takes photos of the fabric information label that's at the end of those cardboard bolt-holder thingies. I feel better now. I actually keep prints of those labels in a file folder called "Washing Instructions!" I used to be very flat chested when I was 30-40 years younger than I am now--AA and then an A cup. Now that I'm a bit heavier and had two kids, I'm a B cup, and I really appreciate patterns with DARTS, just like you. (The kids are 34 and 29 years of age, ha-ha.) Purchased tailored blouses always have a nasty gap right between The Girls, so I plan to start making my own tailored blouses WITH darts when I have time. Another factor in planning to make my own tailored blouses is that when you go to a clothing store in the U.S.A., it seems there are ZERO white tailored blouses. (Why?) Happy sewing!

I really like the knit top, but I'm the opposite. I can't have anything 'knit' near my skin. Ponte doesn't bother me at all. It's my favourite. But I do know what you mean about the different types. It is strange working with ponte. It took a little getting used to. You don't need to surge anything as the fabric does not fray and is more comfortable to wear without the overcast stitching. The mid weight and heavier is better for bottoms I think. The colour block top is very flattering.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 года назад
I know it won’t unravel but I can’t fathom an unfinished edge. It would not let me sleep lol. I just like ponte for pants and jackets. The skin in my upper body is more sensitive and it’s the stiffness that gets me :)

Thank you for the explanation about sewing the sleeves on the round instead of the flat. Freedom of motion is critical for me (I have autoimmune joint problems and can't tolerate things binding or pulling) and I really appreciate understanding why that method of sleeve insertion will work better. One question: what is the advantage of serging the cut fabric since the knit fabric won't unravel? Thanks!

I just had a thought. What if you left the dart in the front and made a curved piece, like the back. If you used a busy print to camouflage the dart wouldn't it look like a princess seam? A "faux" princess seam. People who don't sew would never give it a second thought if they did see the dart. Easier than transforming a dart into a real princess seam. I'm all about experimenting and doing a test garment but right now I don't have the time to do it so I would like your opinion. I will give my idea a shot when I get time. .
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles Год назад
I’d rather eliminate the dart 100%. A dart and a curved seams is not a look I’d enjoy for sure. The princess seams that takes away the dart is a lot smoother and the bulk of the dart is gone.

Hi Linda. I’d love it if you could try to not focus on my weight here. This is a sewing channel and I sew to fit the body I have. I don’t have a channel to demonstrate how to look slimmer and such and I don’t use body shaming language on my channel. Thank you so much. Plus, I already said repeatedly that the green top was a fail.
