I had the same issue in 4 vent openings around my house for years. Finally having the vents covered properly in November. Genuinely curious- Why not just wait til they fledge to do this?
@@mariettaGbmx they actually sleep at night. I’ve had 4 families nesting in 4 separate vents for years. They are noisy in the mornings tho. I know it’s extremely dirty. We had them removed and covered once but the birds managed get the covers off so we have to get it done again. It smelled of dead fish when they were removed. It was pretty awful so I completely understand trying to prevent it.
@@ButterfatFarms I let them stay until the nestlings fledged. Then we had them covered again. Luckily no infestations of any kind but definitely smelled bad.
Yeah I wouldn't worry about the nest materials being scratchy for those chicks. They're not gonna be in that jug for long after you leave. They'll most like be at the bottom of some predator's stomach you attracted with all the commotion going on while you transferring the chicks to a more "predator friendly nest" container. You've made some crow or hawk very happy. Good job!! Helping the predators eat more easily. I mean those chicks were so protected in that vent.. and stayed cool and so secure!! Now the Sun gonna cook them every hour they sit underneath it. No security with that plastic flap wide open for anything to reach in at them. Great job guys!!!
You’re just wrong, the flap is large enough only really for a bird as small as a starling, if you’ve raised baby birds you’d know she didn’t do anything wrong in this video. You left many long comments about them being eaten, which didn’t happen, as though you’d like to imagine it is what happened with how detailed your comments are.
My townhome complex has these flap vents on every unit. The starlings swarm on spring mornings flying in and out of everyone’s vents. They just land, flip open the vents and scurry in. It should honestly be against code to even allow this design!
Not confused, the nest is in front of where it used to be by the vents entrance. She’d come back and see the babies, maybe confused on why the nest changed
Those poor babies were doing so well too! Damn! Well , that's nature for yah. Those chicks will be eaten before the sun goes down I bet especially with all those noises and activities the worker & cronies are making. I'm sure they've attracted every predator in 5 miles radius. Not to forget she displayed them for everyone to see how meaty they are. Yeaha I give it 30 mins after she leaves and all those chicks be stuffed down some birds throat in seconds. That jug just be a momento of comfort for lives she helped display for all those predators to sit on while they eat.. GREAT JOB !!!
Can you imagine how they must have sound whenever a predator landed on the side of that jug & began raiding to eat them ?! Snapping down on their delicate new born bones. Pulling them one by one out hungrily with it's sharp vicious beck. The siblings listening to the horrible screams while the first body is being chewed apon quickly crunching it down to swallow still hearing the cry's in it's throat. Now waiting for their turn. No escape. Just the shrills of their siblings being chewed& swallowed alive . You did this. You make this possible with your ingenious open jug design that you staple happily out in the open for all the see. Wow. Your so thoughtful! 👎
She did what was necessary to save them, or else they would had fallen deeper down the vent. Those jugs are a sufficient cheap way to make a nest… they did not get eaten, they grew up and left the nest. It’s what starlings do
I recently had the same problem. And it was crazy how one bird could build such a massive nest up in the vent. But where I’m from, by law the wildlife removal services have to take the babies and the eggs to a facility to put them down.
They have the same rights for life like any other animal. Plus it's also against the law remove / kill / destroy nests when they have eggs or chicks, no matter what species is. It's illegal

Probably not, the flap is large enough for small starlings to fit in, not big birds. And most birds would have nests like this one, just a bit more natural. If you’ve raised birds, you’d know this is fine, though I’d prefer a wooden bird nest/shelter.
I had a starling raise a clutch inside the core of my cinder block garage wall some years back. I just left them alone as they weren't harming anything out there but I would climb up my ladder to take a peek in on them using a mirror and flashlight. Their mouths would fly open and their heads wobble as they chirped thinking food was bein served. They all eventually fledged. So cute.
This whole operation seems a bit pointless tbh. They look to me to be only two or three days away from fledging, so as you have left them there for several weeks so far, why not just wait until they have fledged, then remove the nest and fit a screen to prevent the same thing happening next year? I know she states that they won’t fledge for another couple of weeks, but I know starlings well, and there is no way it is going to be any more than a few days until they fledge. (In total hatching to fledging takes around 19-20 days), so if they have a couple of weeks to go, they would be less than a week old, which they are definitely not. On a separate point it is interesting to note that in the UK this sort of interference with nesting birds is highly illegal. And yes, I realise that Starlings are an invasive species.

Sacarlos del nido sin emplumar ya es una crueldad. Maybe they were scared, but if she left them they could had fallen deeper in the vent and died. Plus with it being a vent into the bathroom, they could be breathing in bad chemicals if left there. I’ve left replies on your other comments to make it clear the container she used isn’t bad.
@@andreakatrina5405 Because it's the law ,you leave an active nest to fledge. If the nest is damaged and chicks are in danger then a certified rescuer can deal with them.
The reason is because that is simply false. The idea that calling them invasive therefore means they’re bad is ignorant, every species of bird at some point of history has been invasive, for the most part, with starlings being invasive in more recent history. Most if not all mammals and birds in North America migrated here at some point in history. There are far more aggressive birds than starlings in North America.
I’ve seen a lot of starlings nest in vents, so mostly it’s fine, but there’s a chance the babies can fall deeper into the vent and die, so it’s a safe effort to make which she did in this video!
Well that’s not nice, it’s just a bird. They only make that noise when being handled like in this video or if they’re being fed, which happens at daytime around work hours
Those blankety-blank starlings! I read somewhere that someone thought it would be a good idea to bring to Central Park in New York 100 of each bird species Shakespeare ever wrote about in his poetry and plays. Starlings were one of those and now they are everywhere across North America, vexing backyard bird feeders like me.
They used to be here in droves when I was younger, but they are gone now. I saw one this year for the 1st time in probably 4 or 5 years which is crazy bc we have several feeders and like you said they were a huge nuisance. They'd be everywhere!
Only good starling is a dead one... they're like Nazi birds, descending in mass on neighborhoods, kicking out songbirds from their nests and generally taking over.
Rather surprising that they returned the Chicks to the nest, rather than euthanizing them , as Starlings are an invasive species. The normal protocol would be to euthanize them

What do you mean? She literally saved them. If she left them they could have fallen deeper into the vent and died. The technique she did with the container does work, and they left the nest because that’s what birds do when they grow up enough. You left so many weird comments on this video when she did the necessary thing to save them, either you are ignorant of birds or this technique of saving them.
