From April 18th, 2024. As the beautiful American singer songwriter author & TV personality Mrs. Kelly Clarkson who won the first season of American idol in 2002 sang, “some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this,” and it sure happened to me on this particular cool but rather rainy and stormy Thursday night after a nice day off work and watching many other freight trains and Amtrak trains here in downtown St. Louis and at Kirkwood Amtrak station too that afternoon. Here’s a video taken by me this night of Amtrak 22 the northbound Texas eagle from San Antonio Texas departing out of downtown St. Louis Missouri for Chicago at 7:57 pm a whopping 11 hours and 47 minutes late. It arrived into St. Louis at 7:30 pm an even 12 hours late. This train normally arrives into Saint Louis at 7:30 am in the morning and then departs Saint louis at 8:10 am if it stays on time. Apparently bad or severe weather conditions and obviously major locomotive issues with both of the Amtrak P42’s numbers 56, and 53 seen here are what caused this train to be so late. So Union Pacific Railroad came to their rescue down south and added one of their regular Gevos #7785 to the head end of the train to assist it all the way north to Chicago from wherever it broke down at down south the day or night before. Amtrak 22 has 4 superliners on it here leaving Saint Louis although they did not pick up the add on superliner coach car here in Saint Louis that was dropped off from Amtrak 21 the night before. I also saw this train come up the oak hill branch part of the Union Pacific Desoto sub earlier at McRee avenue not long after eating dinner at home. I also got to see this train’s counterpart aka sister train Amtrak 21 the southbound Texas eagle arrive here too from Chicago going to San Antonio Texas but I didn’t get any video of that train as it was just a single Amtrak P42 number 62 leading and 5 superliners coming into Saint Louis then 4 superliners leaving Saint Louis. Amtrak 21 was also running late as well due to the severe weather and even a few possible tornados that rolled thru south central Illinois between Springfield Illinois and Alton Illinois earlier around and past the dinner hour so it didn’t arrive into here until 8:29 pm 1 hour and 22 minutes late then departed here at 8:52 pm 1 hour and 10 minutes late. My buddy Scott Nauert and I were so happy to have seen both Amtrak Texas eagle trains in the same day or night as I’d call it here. Hope you all like this video by me. Feel free to comment on it too. Enjoy! Jason.
