The law is the minimum standard, the more important question, what are our expectations of social conduct, how do we behave towards each other? Showing respect, and courtesy to strangers. Approach others with kindness, and a bit of patience. It makes all the world of difference. The law does not require these of you. Basic human decency does.

I remember decades ago when the Aryan nation wanted to have a parade in Coeur D Alene. The residents of the area simply made it a ghost town. Shops on the boardwalk closed, and not a citizen was in sight. They had their parade, but people just largely ignored their stupidity by not being present. They let them have their freedom of assembly but chose not to engage or show support.

I visited Idaho three separate occasions. In 1995, 2002 and 2019. I visited Boise and Cour D Alene. The people were very nice and polite. It is too bad that your state has a negative stigma regarding extremist hate groups.

The fact that Idaho is an extremely conservative state is exactly why they are there lol! Growing up in Idaho you hear little jokes about race from kids. Some people get older and understand that that was wrong. Others stay hatful. But it really starts as a kid. Jokes can become someone's mindset even if they don't fully understand the punchline when they say it. Everyone should have freedom of speech but there is a thin line between saying something and believing something, and spreading hate.

Freedom of expression is guaranteed by the 1 Amendment. But when it encourages others to do harm to someone else it is no longer freedom of expression.
