lobbying isn't bad. Allowing companies to pay politicians for their election campaigns on the other hand is very very bad. Since the supreme court ruled that companies should be allowed to make donations, everything went downward fast. Instead of politicians working for the people, they are now working for the richest companies. And sadly, it's exactly those richest companies that don't mind screwing over people. Some even screw their own employees to!

I believe transparency and a place for people affected to speak is important, the best lobbying happens in the public eye and gets lots of attention. When the EU made a list of "unnecessary" plastic uses to ban products were allredy replaced before the vote happened because of the tight business integration... While many other examples are awful

Sadly this type of corruption happens everywhere, banning it doesn't make corrupt politicians stop accepting money from private companies. I guess it's at least a good thing that if it's illegal they can be punished if they get caught, but in practice that never happens, even when they get caught they still get away with it.

Seasonal variation is an aspect of climate, and can be described using these 30 years, but you're kidding yourself if you can take a year of information, and give any sort of reliable guess about the rainfall on such a date the next year

Most people on these positions never do get fired for that specific reason. They are instead still paid their full salary plus cost of living adjustments but asked to no longer come in. They are therefore still under the company’s NDAs and other legal restrictions. They can however find another job to work while still “employed” at the first. Then they just stack those and make a boatload of money.

Well life is not all that simple. This rage against big oil is misplaced in the sense that we do need oil for air travel and cars vans and trucks will still need it for the foreseeable future. We need both of those. What we do not need is coal power plants, coal metal works, oil power plants, gas heating, oil heating all of which can be replaced by tomorrow with solar wind and nuclear yet people rage against the guys who get their packages to their doors and their kids to school... For non-carbon air travel... the tech simply is not there. And if we want to fly anywhere we will need oil. And yes it will become more expensive and that is fine.

The moment the earth starts seriously dying, the moment where fire threatens our food sources, the moment where we can’t even breathe clean air... we will start to riot. There will be chaos. That is one of the only ways we can win. To change it, everyone and everything must suffer first so much, that their anger will tear down the establish. The second most convient option is to pass legislation that stops climate change, without waiting until everything becomes worse. If only we were to elect a politician that can’t be bought, that strives to end climate change in all seriousness, then there is a chance.

Sorry for the super long comment, but this really only scratches the surface, & people are *SO* unfamiliar with what capitalism & socialism even are, we've got to lay the foundation. The defining feature of capitalism is the relationship of production: the employer/employee relationship, just like the serf/lord relationship defines feudalism & the slave/master relationship defines slavery. Talking about capitalism, specifically, the worker sells their labor to the capitalist who then owns everything produced by the workers' labor & sells that for their own profit. This creates a core conflict in capitalism between the interest of workers (employees) & capitalists (employers): the worker wants as much pay as possible for their work. The capitalist wants to harvest as much profit as possible, which means minimizing pay as much as they can. This conflict, along with the profit incentive driving the capitalist is the root cause of just about every major socioeconomic problem in the world today, including climate change & especially including capitalist influence on politics. See, there are FAR fewer capitalists than workers... and remember, those 2 groups are inherently at odds with each other -- they have mutually exclusive, opposing interests. That all means that democracy is no good for a capitalist because they would be out-voted every single time if democracy were allowed to operate properly. This is why they use their wealth & power to corrupt democracies, & to pay off politicians like we see in this video. There is no regulation that can stop this. It is baked into the very core of the employer/employee relationship... that is to say, there is no 'good' version of capitalism, like most social democrats believe. Socialism, then, is the undoing of this binary. It is doing away with the employer/employee divide that motivates the corruption that we see in our modern societies. It's doing away with the economic monarchy, just like we did away with the governmental monarchy centuries ago. A great working example of this are workers' cooperatives, where every worker in the company owns an exactly equal voting share & nobody else owns any voting shares of the company. They vote on leadership positions, just like we do in governmental democracies, & in just the same way, those positions are not permanent & can be recalled. They also vote on important company policies. Not only do these produce wildly improved workplaces & reduce inequality radically, they directly address the core conflict of capitalism which is driving the active destruction of our planet. Now, those alone aren't enough to bring about socialism. If you were able to create an economy entirely or predominantly made of workers' cooperatives, you would achieve a transitional economy called "market socialism". But, thanks to more than 100 years of demonetization & persecution, I recognize that this is already WAAAAY outside the comfort zone & scope of awareness for most Americans (of which I am one)... so let's leave it there for one comment.

Well, the world's governments are going to have to do something more serious about this soon - because even the rich and powerful can't live in a world that's burning, drowning and the air increasingly toxic. Doesn't matter whether they flee to an underground bunker, a private island, or up to fragile space capsules, none of these places come with fancy restaurants, shopping trips or places to fly a private jet. They will all be grounded as inherently useless people with no talent for fixing a water pipe, a plug socket, their hair or lunch. As soon as there's an emergency - there will be no one to help. No one can hear you scream in space.
