"We had our first earthquake around seven weeks ago and after weeks of continuous earthquakes, we were gifted with a wonderful natural phenomenon. When I heard the news about a possible volcanic eruption, I straight away got the idea to include it as the last element of the visual world I was creating around my debut album, Bylur. Since I had the idea very early on, director Einar Egils and I immediately started to contact helicopter and airplane rental companies to reserve a pilot to be on standby for when the eruption started.
The title of the album 'Bylur' (e. snowstorm), reflects and responds to the emotional journey of what this album means to me; on the experience of being able to witness and experience such a majestic force of nature, the full spectrum of emotions. This helicopter ride was 17 hours after the volcanically active ground had begun to erupt with spewing magma and continuous earthquakes. I am still to the day speechless of having witnessed such beauty, and Einar captures this honest experience in a meaningful and emotional way.”
The poem was written and read by Eydís herself, reflecting the experience of circling the volcano:
The earth trembles beneath the feet of the nation.
The wind howls, carries deep rumbles as the earthquakes split and crack open the surface.
New earth, blood-red skies. The heartbeat of the eruption draws us closer whilst complete timelessness remains.
Dark and heavy sleet, visibility is poor.
Directed and edited by Einar Egils.
