IN THIS VIDEO:
What are you those floaty things in your eye? A large portion of people experience floaters or spots in their vision. Dr. Guymon explains how these floaters appear in your vitreous humor, the gel filled portion of you eyeball. This vitreous can shrink, causing floaters, a posterior vitreous detachment (pvd), and sometimes cause more serious conditions like a retinal detachment. Are eye floaters dangerous, have you been seeing flashing lights in your vision? Dr. EyeGuy will go over eye floater symptoms, the causes of eye floaters, who gets eye floaters, when are visual floaters dangerous, and if there is any eye floater treatment. Dr. Guymon will mention vitrectomy surgery as well as yag laser to help treat floaters. Included in this video is an eye floaters simulation as an example. Eye Floaters will be explained in detail. Future videos will include how to get rid of eye floater facts as well.

@@theMobileJourno You're right, I didn't mean to intentionally use that phrase as a scare tactic in the video. That phrase was actually used by one of our retinal specialist that we work with. He uses that phrase to make the patient understand that the floaters need to be significant to warrant the surgery. I didn't go into more detail because I have another video coming out that will explain floater treatments more in detail. I'll be sure to not use that phrase so I don't discourage anybody from looking into that as a possible treatment. Thanks for the comment.

I didn't notice my first floater until age 60. I noticed a floater in the other eye two years later, which was recently. I was blessed to have a retinal eye exam just the other day by a retinal specialist. He says as long as my vision doesn't bother me, and I can see well enough, I'm fine. He told me all the things to watch for. The doctor that diagnosed my first floater two years ago told me to roll my eyes to change the position of floaters. Also, my brain seems to somewhat ignore them.

Thank you for this informative video, I had cataract surgery back in January 2024 left eye fine, right eye went blurry in 4 days! I was experiencing those white spider web flashes in both eyes. My doctor had me come back end of April 2024 to do a YAG procedure on the right eye for the blurry vision, however next day the spider web flashes are now a large cloud like grey blurry swipe that goes across my eye when I move my eye from right to left and the swipe goes from left to right in my eye, very annoying especially when driving and in yard outside which never was the case with just the smaller web like flash, so I cancelled the YAG for the left eye and he sent me to see a retinal doctor who told me that I have posterior vitreous detachment and gave me no advice as what to do about this large blurry cloud like swipe that goes across my eye. I am so so sorry that I had that YAG done as it has made my vision worse eye is just as blurry and now I have the swipe thing every day with every movement to my eye!!! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Probably the best video about the topic! Those examples really made the situation clear and understandable. I firstly noitced my floaters some years ago. At first it was a bit sad, but then i understood that this is a normal way to see the world: a lot of people have them, but many don't notice them.I have even heard of people realizing they have them only after their doctor told them (lol)! I’ve had them for a while as on summer holidays if I closed my eyes in direct sun I could see moving objects but didn’t think anything of it, then after an eye test in September last year they mentioned it and somehow focused on them, I’m sure they have got a little worse since then by clumping together. Sir, I'm indeed near sided and I have had it as long as I can remember. I'm 30 years old. I feel like they are starting to get worse and since two months I am also having eye migraine. Can the two be connected? I do see little flashes but that's only when I have the eye migraine, not in "normal" situations. Where I will still have these floaters though. I have been to the GP and he said there's nothing no one will do to these eye floaters for someone who's under at least age 50. I told him I had new floaters too but he doesn't seem to be worried about it. While I do.

I have dense Asteroid Hyalosis and especially a large lobster like one in my field of vision. I have loads of cobwebs all over which affects vision. I have difficulty in reading words and numbers properly. Why does this happen? My vision is often blurred too and often have dull ache in my eye too. I wake up glarry eyed. I have had tests dilation and Oct scans and the end result is I have severe visual impairment! My only option is a Vitrectomy. I just need to know why does my vision get distorted and will Vitrectomy let me see again clearly. Thank you
@DrEyeGuy
@DrEyeGuy 3 года назад
If the visual impairment is from the many floaters you have, then the goal of a vitrectomy would be to clear your vision. You can think of it kind of like looking through water that has a lot of bubbles in it. The bubbles can get in the way of your vision, or cast enough shadows and scatter light that it is hard to focus. If the vitrectomy is done successfully, they can remove those bubbles, making it so you can look through nice clear water.

My floaters haven't fully disappeared, but I dont notice them as much. A lot people don't have their floaters disappear, and they notice them all of the time. If they are big, or very bothersome to the point of decreasing your vision, you could look into the treatment possibilities: vitrectomy or yag laser. Always make sure you are getting the health of your eyes looked at when you are dealing with floaters. Get that high blood pressure checked too if you haven't yet. I haven't heard of high blood pressure directly causing floaters, but what's causing your high blood pressure could also be contributing to floaters possibly.

Hi thanks for getting back to me, he just said to me that the blob and wobbly line as moved more anterior and that’s why it seems so large because of where’s it’s positioned and that the anterior vitrectomy was safer. Are the risks much lower with this as he didn’t explain why it is safer… thanks
@DrEyeGuy
@DrEyeGuy 3 года назад
@@amandaburford4738 Yes, an anterior vitrectomy is safer, less chance of retinal detachment.

Hi can I ask another question about my other eye , was told got stage 1 pvd in that eye , but iv had loads of lines , stringy things come the top of my vision and drift up and down the . If I squint some of these look transparent … are these a normal process in the pvd and do these settle down..never get any proper answers off the specialist here.. .thanks for all your help…regards Amanda Burford

Hi Amanda, sorry for the late response. Those stringy lines would for sure fit the symptoms of a PVD and floaters. Sometimes they are referred to as vitreous strands, or folds in the vitreous. If they are new in your vision, then you will want to get them check out.

Hi I’m on stage 2 pvd and got quite a few floaters but also been diagnosed with a lacunae, it’s so stressful .. have you any idea once pvd completes does lacunae go... thanks
@DrEyeGuy
@DrEyeGuy 3 года назад
Hi Amanda, sorry to hear this. It depends on the person and how the vitreous settles with the PVD. It's tricky to predict unfortunately.

Hi Thankyou for you reply... I’m just hoping it does go , it’s like a big circle in my vision and attached to a wobbly line that goes all the way down the side vision... could that also be the vitreous...thanks
@DrEyeGuy
@DrEyeGuy 3 года назад
Yes, that can definitely be the vitreous. Just make sure you are being monitored by your eye doc (it sounds like you are) just to make sure.

Have you had your floaters checked with your eye doctor? That would be the first thing to do.

I got in a bar fight over a year ago. Took a couple shots to my left eye. I have black specks floating in my left eye now. I won the fight but these specks are annoying.
