Hey Rasheed, I think you may have mixed optometry with ophthalmology. If you want to do optometry you don't have to go to medical school or residency. You have to get a bachelors degree and then apply to optometry school (check what their requirements are). Ophthalmologists on the other hand go to medical school and then complete at least 4 years of residency. On of the biggest differences between ophthalmologists and optometrists is that ophthalmologists do procedures and surgeries of the eye while optometrists don't. As to your question about what you should major in, it really does not matter that much. While it might make your life easier to major in something biology related just because most of the medical school pre-req courses will be required for your major, from what I understand medical schools don't really care. Find something you enjoy learning about and major in it. I personally majored in neuroscience, and I loved it. By the way I'm starting medical school this fall.

I know that it’s hard but did it take all you time or did you have time to work too? This is a personal question and you don’t how to answer if you don’t want to. What you going to specialize in?
