One of the hip hop culture's messages is to keep your mouth shut when the police start asking questions. Rapper Cam'ron tells CNN's Anderson Cooper why he'll never snitch. (CBSNews.com)
I honestly never thought of it that way. That is a great point. I respect you comment and I give you a lot of respect for bringing this perspective to my attention.
Many communities not just the police. The black community in particular gets pressured in America into "doing the right thing" that's really against their best interest
David Curry people tend to forget it was the old Italian mafia who brought about a no snitching rule, then paint a picture that it's a mentality solely held by black people haha
That italian cop that was on the cinema channel in the 70s snitched on the police, and people praised him for it. Most cops don't tell, thats why people don't like them.
"if I knew the Serial Killer was living next to me?" "I Probably move, cause I dont need to be livin next to serial killers" LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hilarious
***** what are u trying to say? cops dont serve justice anyway. they abuse their power and kill the people. and they dont give a fuck about you at all. cops wont even protect you after the trial so why should i give you the intel?
@@ericsaunders8605 That's pretty sad because this type of thinking is 100% IRRATIONAL. Society would collapse if people didn't report crimes. You're living in an alternate universe if you follow his logic.
@@rs72098 It’s a way of life, especially if you grew up in a rough neighborhood. Snitching is not tolerated in these areas. The results are pretty heavy if you sing like a canary to the authorities. When that happens, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. Cause the cops won’t provide protection for you and the perps will come looking for you.
I grew up in a different environment than Cam but I completely agree with him it’s the job of the parents to stop their kids from listening to music they persevere to be inappropriate, Cam isn’t selling albums to 10 year olds he’s selling them to adults who understand what he’s saying and known it’s just street poetry.
in theory if this is actually how it works. yes. however, parents have no control over the adults who listen to inappropriate music in public spaces who dont care about parental advisories or kids... car owners blasting the music at top volume; businesses and radio stations playing the so called "censored" versions; neighbours having parties/ kareoke sessions. the parental advisory can only work if it is only the parent who can expose a child to something and it doesnt work that way. it takes a village n cam is a part of that village
@@janellebrouet4681 that rhetoric is nonsense. It's not anybody else's responsibility to worry about what's good for YOUR child. And talking about public spaces and people playing it out their cars and all that, books, movies, music, and TV all fall under the first ammendment which is protected by the US constitution. Take ur kids elsewhere if u don't want them listening to it in public. Don't want kids lookin up to people like him? Be a better role model. Cuz it's not cam's or anyone else responsibility to be one
yeah cuz you "care" so much about your community but totally not your business right... he don't care about people getting murdered as long as no one ends up in front of a court of law
Cam is right there is parental advisory on many album and movie and other covers for a reason those are early warning signs that people should know what they are signing up for
What did he expected him to say, 1. Reason you don’t tell is because the police will expose the snitch 2 . You’ll be held a witness 3 they won’t protect you after being exposed
These all would’ve been much better points than the “it’s the way it is” answers that he actually gave. He didn’t say any of the stuff you just brought up
I love how the serial killer question always comes up in these types of Q&A about snitching. You know, anybody "real" who lives the street life is going to have those people (rapists, serial killers, child molesters) X'd out. While everybody else is calling the cops and sitting at home scared, cowards!
The thing is, I'm sure if Cam was next to the serial killer, he'd have killed him. But he can't say that on here without self incriminating. That's next level dedication to not snitching 😂😂😂😂😂
Never heard of that. Most lawyers have won cases by PRESENTING FACTS. If you're deceiving the judge and lying to protect a criminal, you're going to do more time. It's called OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE.
You have to consider that Cam'ron is alienated from the system and mainstream Society. I actually think his mentality is unhelpful in many situations but I can sort of understand where it originated.
Yeah it’s obvious why urban poor black people don’t trust the police and would rather not talk to them at all given the history of police violence against and framing of blacks, but not doing anything about a murderer in your neighborhood isn’t realistic or good either
@@samsca8529It actually originated from slavery. The slaves who snitched on the runaways. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was originated from slavery. There’s a reason why this particular demographic don’t like orderliness and much rather live in a society without structure like in the jungles .
Nah, you can't keep trying to explain these type of things to white America. They say they "don't get it" but really they just don't care. And if people don't care, why bother??
This guy contradicts himself. He says he was brought up with the mentality that the community polices itself so that's why they don't turn to the police yet after the serial killer question he say he would just move because it's not his responsibility to take care of it, you are part of the community!!! Lol
I’m pretty sure he meant he would move from where he was living. He doesn’t live in Harlem so no matter where he lives he always goes to Harlem. But his house , he could just dip.
Cam makes no fking sense speaking about not snitching on a neighborhood serial killer! I c y our communities are fked up filled with people with this mindset
It's because that serial killer would be dead. That's the point of not telling, to limit your exposure. He can't say that on national tv. It's better to let people think he's being ignorant.
Camron " yo dahmer can you tell ed gein to move that head from my lawn, I won't tell the cops but please homie make sure you put that head in the fridge with the rest of bodies you hide up there, thank youu!"
Cam is right about children listening to his music. I. That time you needed someone 18 or over to buy the music. If it’s in the radio, most likely it’s in the car and who’s driving? You can’t stop people from playin music in the street. Same as you can’t stop people from smoking outside. There’s things you can control and things you can’t
before you snitch, just know that the person you snitchin on more than likely knows about you doin' dirt. after snitches get snitched on, there's nothing left to tell. real talk.
+EasySnake agreed no snitching movement is the most ignorant thing blacks have created. abandoning your family and kids because your honor your friends over them. selfishness
