HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT A EZGO TXT 48V. THESE ARE THE COMMON PROBLEMS. THAT WE SEE AT OUR SHOP... ALWAYS REMEMBER SAFETY FIRST. ALWAYS JACK CART UP FROM THE REAR. TO PERFORM ANY TEST.
Great video - thanks for posting it. I have a 2011 RXV 48v cart that just died tonight. I just put 4 T1275 Trojans in it. Drove it a half dozen times and it was fine. Took it about 1/4 mile and turned to a friends place it off. Went to take it back home an hour later and it won’t do a thing. Batteries showed 51v total. I turn the key to any position and get nothing.. Maybe key switch? I will try some of your trouble-shooting tips. Hope the controller isn’t fried.
Hi Christy, appreciate the video, I recently bought a dead EZGO TXT. Got it back home and found all 6 Trojan batteries to be dry (its a 36V cart). I took all the batteries out, cleaned them up and filled them with distilled water. I charged them all independently and re-installed in the cart. After a few charge cycles, the cart seems to be working and I've been using it for odd jobs about the place. However, the other day, I tried to use it with my (large friend) as a passenger and it stopped after a few feet. When he got out I was able to drive it again. Having not had one before, I'm not sure what it can and can't do, so i'm not sure whether this is indicative of the other issue I'm about to describe or whether I'm just asking too much of it. Also after this incident, I tried to use it a day or so later and even though the charger was reporting full battery, it would try to move but wouldn't. I thought the batteries were shot (even though they were measuring 37V) but today I kept depressing the throttle up and down and eventually the cart started to move and I was able to drive it around again.
@@HeyHeyHey97 I think so, I just gave it another test run and it worked again, so can't say for sure. It's one led from the top of the 36V meter bar and its sluggish, especially on small inclines, which I know they struggle with at the best of times but this is really small which I believe it should cope with.
Thank you for posting the video! It gave me a great work-around for the issue I was having (1st you mentioned - 'bypassing the circuit inside the charger plug.' Question: for a permanent fix, do I need to replace the charger receptacle or is the issue somewhere else in the electronics? I'm looking for a permanent fix because it seems I need to remove the bypass to get the charger to charge the batteries. Thank you.
@@HeyHeyHey97 nothing no click. I also purchased a new charger and still the same. Only get click when I jumped the wire from plug. Charge gauge on golf cart now registers 3/4 charge but won't move.
Great video! I have TXT 48 and everything checked out as I followed your instructions, The cart is moving a little bit then it shudders, battery pack is at 50.3 and the batteries are 3 years old, Could this be the motor? Cart has lift and 23in tires, stock Curtis controller and motor is stock as well, has new solenoid, F/R switch, new ITS, And speed sensor in the motor, completely stumped on this one, Any ideas
Have you tested the batteries under a load. Meaning while you are driving it. Or put one tire up against a tree and rest each battery individually. As you hit gas. Don’t hold gas down too long. But probably motor. But check battery voltage first
Thanks for the great video. 2013 TXT 48v. Cart won’t move and reverse alarm doesn’t work. I also have no power to the white or black wires with key on, green reads 50v. Will the ITS also make the reverse alarm not work? Or is it possibly the F/R switch? Also tried bypassing the Reed Switch and have good key power to solenoid yellow.
@@HeyHeyHey97 Hmmm, I don't have any voltage to either the black or white wires as described in the video. Is it possible that the issue is the FnR switch? Not sure how to test the switch.
Excellent video..thank you! One question: Assuming everything else is good, if the ITS is bad will it cause the controller to keep from activating the solenoid when key switch, pedal switch, and FWD/Reverse are proper?
@@HeyHeyHey97 It's a 36V TXT PDS. I've checked all connections like I mentioned...the solenoid does not get an activation signal from the controller when everything is turned on and the pedal switch is activated. I'm thinking this means that the controller is bad. Would you agree or do you think it's possible an ITS failure would cause the controller to not activate the solenoid?
I have a 1989 easy go golf court and we give it gas and you can hear it like it’s running but it will not go forward or reverse any ideas on what’s wrong?
@@HeyHeyHey97 it belongs to my son in law. I thought it was running fine. He thought after I replaced solenoid and pedal switch, it was running as fast. Not sure of mph
36v ezgo txtpds. No solenoid click. Tested everything in the video and all is fine EXCEPT no voltage on the white wire of the ITS. I have 36v on the red and between green and red but nothing on white or black. Will this stop the solenoid from clicking? Also the cart has a XCT48400-PDS controller. Should the status light be on?
I have a fleet of 48v TXT models and one of them will run in reverse but not forward. I have checked the forward and revers switch but it is fine. I've had issues with the inductive throttle sensor on some of my other carts but I feel like it wouldn't go forward or revers if that was the issue. A year or so ago this particular cart had a few nicked wires in the wiring harness where it runs through the frame on the underside of the cart. I cut and spliced the wires back together and this solved the problem. Since I don't do this everyday I forgot what method I used to troubleshoot this problem. I remember jumping a wire from somewhere but I can't remember exactly how I did it. Any ideas?
I would flip the wires on the f n r switch. And see if it runs forward and not reverse. If it does then you know its switch if it don't its probably a wire. Do that test and let me know what you find and will tell you next text.
@@HeyHeyHey97 Thanks for replying! I already tried that and still only runs in reverse. Crazy thing I just went out and checked it and it ran in forward and reverse but it will eventually die out in forward.
Selanoid is new still nothing. I jumped the selanoid on the small post from the main positive and it reverse started beeping. What does that mean? That there is a bad wire in the key switch? On the Yamaha, the wire that comes off of the battery charging Port you described, is not a wire that can be easily detached like on the txt. It just so happens that the on on my cart is soldered. Should I cut it and run it straight to the main + post and see if the cart runs? Thanks man you are a great help and appreciated for DIY.
@@joeabu that means you have lost all power from key switch, tow switch or foot pedal switch... get a volt meter and check back of keyswitch for voltage.
Sir I really appreciate your video. I tried a few of the things you suggested and almost had my cart fixed. I'm sure you're a busy man but I was hoping you could help me diagnose an issue. I just installed new batteries in my golf cart and it will not move. The solenoid does not click. Batteries are fully charged. I jumped the red wire from the charging port to my main battery and for the first time my battery light came on. Thinking this was the issue I threw an eye connector on it and was going to test it out but after connecting it with the eye connector the battery light no longer comes on and the cart still does not move. I do have reverse beep. It's a 2000 E-Z-Go txt series. I have 42.2 volts at the red charging wire and both micro switches. I'm not sure how anything could be bad because all I did was replace the batteries. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
Did it run before changing batteries. your cart is 36 volt right? Check main pos and main neg to make sure you have wired correctly. How many wires do you have on main pos and main neg
Have txt 48 ezgo and just replaced all the batteries. Key switch on it says fully charged but will not nove in forward or reverse. Nothing happens when pedal is pushed down not even the reverse buzzer. All volts line up except the white and black plug wire show 3.8volts regardless of pedal being pushed down.
I have a txt48 that will not go. The solenoid just clicks on and off real fast when given gas but doesn't move. I've changed the controller, solenoid, and its and it still does the same thing. I've given the solenoid voltage straight from the battery and still won't go. Could it be a bad wire harness?
What does battery voltage show. Normally when that happens the controller is bad. Have you tested the motor to make sure it’s good. And yea it could be wiring harness if you have. A bad connection somewhere. Or a bad plug. Was the cart towed anywhere in with the tow run switch in the run position. M
Great video Would be great to see one on 2000 txt 36v with same complaint. I tried your test on mine, and it doesn't have main battery voltage at solenoid(yellow wire) with key switch on. All key switch wiring has continuity. and check for 36 volts at key switch nothing on white or white yellow. Also nothing where those wires come out of controller. I'm hoping it isn't controller. Hoping I just missed my off ramp. If you have any feed back it would be appreciated. Broke down in Vegas
Is there a way to check my charger to insure it acually Chargers.? Because I charged all my batteries individually so the cart had enough power to run around in. But I still can't get my charger to charge the batteries.
I have a 2012 rxv that gets no voltage to the motor brake with key switch on but run / tow switch in tow does . I get reverse buzzer and hear solenoid click when turning on key switch but still no voltage from motor brake plug . Any suggestions ? Maybe you just showed it to me , the yellow wire from the solenoid ? Going to check that later . It's 3:37 am and I couldn't sleep thinking about my wife's cart not running the neighborhood .
@@HeyHeyHey97 Thanks so much for letting me know that , I should've known that being that the cart holds on a hill when you stop . I was too tired to have at it after my regular job tonight and kinda glad now , I'll check tomorrow evening and if it has voltage when the throttle pedal is pushed I'll know that my motor brake is bad , am I right in that thinking ? Again thanks so much for the help .
I have a 2015 or so stinger48 electric cart. Bought 4 brand new 12volt batteries and the cart won't move. The solenoid clicks and it sounds like the motor engages, but when I try and press the pedal nothing happens. Any ideas?
Thanks for the video very informative I’m having trouble with my EZ- GO doesn’t want to move when I press the pedal. I have switch the solenoid and ITS and still no luck and I just discovered today that the wire from the key switch, pedal and micro sensor the white, black, green and red wires do not have voltage nor does any voltage appear when I press on the pedal and the solenoid does not seem to be clicking on any idea what can be going on ?
I have a 48v golf cart (motor sticker says 48v and I have 8x 6v batteries) it is a western elegante (mostly ezgo) but the sticker on the solenoid says 36 volts so my question is this, should the yellow wire from the key to the small terminal on the side of the solenoid be supplying 36 or 48 volts if the sticker on it says it's a 36v solenoid? Does that also mean that it is only design to have 36v passing through the large terminals?
@@HeyHeyHey97 I ran a jumper like was shown in the video from positive to the solenoid, and the dash illuminated again and I could drive it. Since then, I’ve just been tracking the wires from the key switch to where they go. I am not reading 74 V at the key switch like this cart requires. So not sure what to do at the moment.
I have a 2011 ezgo txt pds with brand new batteries and only goes 3-4mph. If it’s already running do you think it’s the ITS or possibly the speed sensor. Let me know what you think please
If speed sensor. Whenever you flip the tow switch to tow then back to run. It will take off wide open then cut back down. Try that and let me know. It’s NO
I have a 2012 txt been sitting for a year with year 18 battery's I charged them up and I'm getting 33.1 volts and my ezgo charger the light want turn on green
@@HeyHeyHey97 well it started with the buggy not moving at all but the reverse alarm was working still so we replaced the solenoid clean it so two weeks of not using it now there’s nothing working not even charging so look into it again to find out that the red wire runs from the charger plug on the buggy meet up with the black wire is rotted of so not sure whether that is the fuse or not but that’s as far as I go
@@ivanjuriss4772 if your charger plug is triangle. That is a temperature sensor. The cart will not charge without it. You will need a new charger receptacle
Well the red wire I’m talking about is inside the buggy so there are three wire coming out of the buggy plug two black and one red so the red meet up with one of the black wire and it’s rotted off so not sure what’s that one for
I need help. 36V 2007 EZGO. The batteries are fine. I rode it with a lot of resistance up the hill. The batteries got hot. I went for a hike, came back and the cart wouldn't move. I hear the click when I engage the pedal. Please help.
@@HeyHeyHey97 yes. I need help. I replaced all the battery cables. The batteries are charged and showing 13 +. with the key switch and forward or reverse engaged. The solenoid will click. All four cables are secured to the electric motor . Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks, Roy
My 2005 Ezgo has brand new batteries and the charger is good. It runs good but up a semi steep hill it looses power. Am I just trying to make it do something it's not capable of doing or is something wrong.
All ezgo will loose power going up a hill. Execpt for an ezgo RXV. All you can do is get you something like motor and controller to give you more speed so you can hit the hill faster.
@@HeyHeyHey97 I have a 2005 Western Electric LSV. I am having trouble. My Cart will go in Reverse but not Forward. I have 7 2 yr old Trojan Batteries and I had all new Wires put on 2 mths ago when I experienced the same Issue and at that time the FNR switch tested good. Any ideas what I can check next?
I would flip the top and bottom wire on the switch and see what it does. Since it has happened before going to say bad switch or bad wire going from switch to controller.
I have an EZGO I have 50 volts on all four post on the solenoid with the key in ON Position is that normal? Should I be getting 50 volts on only three post and one ground? Please advise thank you
I have a 2016 EXGO TXT 48v. I parked it just over a year ago. It sat in my garage for 2 winters without being charged. I thought I had unhooked the batteries, I did not. I got it out, plugged my charger in and it flashes 2 red lights indicating it has too much or not enough voltage. I then tried to charge each battery individually. They would charge and discharge within 45 seconds after being disconnected from the charger. I replace all 6 - 8 volt batteries and the cart wont move. I have voltage on both large posts of the solenoid with key on or key off, but when i turn key on the yellow trigger does go hot and back to 0 with key off. My batteries are reading 8.2 volts individually but when linked together they only read 32 volts. I charged each brand new battery and still the same reading. So, then I started at the ignition and then moved on to the solenoid. Thinking It may have been bad I replaced it. With the old solenoid it DID click. With the brand new solenoid there is no click. I am getting the same reading as I was with the old one installed. I moved on to the flat plug you showed at the end of this video and I have constant voltage on the red, Key on or key off. And It looks like I have no voltage on the white with key on or key off. What should I look at next? By the way, your video was great!! Thank you for sharing and trying to help us all save some money.
Leave the red lead of your meter on main positive and keep moving your black lead of your meter from negative on each battery in series. And see where you voltage goes away at. Could have bad wire or bad battery
Well, I feel like an absolute idiot. But with our taking a second and messaging you I may not have figured out the problem. I did exactly as you said and found I had no voltage from the last battery. I realized I hooked it up backwards. Flipped it around and hooked it up properly and BAM! It moves. Now the charger worked and I’m back in business. Thank you for your help. Sometimes we like to make things harder than they are. Sometimes we overthink things as I did in this situation. Thank you again
I'm working on a 48v ezgo txt and the batteries are at 47v, no click from solenoid, scanner said throttle issue and HPD, so I replaced harness from 4 pin plug to throttle box, replaced sensor and micro switch, still same issue, scanner reads throttle position at 60% even when pressing in and out, not getting voltage fluctuation when measuring black wire on 4 pin to batt neg. Any tips would be much appreciated.
I have a 2011 ezgo gold cart and it won’t move, I bought a new solenoid, new it’s cable, new forward and reverse switch, new throttle sensor, batteries all new, tested motor and it’s good, could it be the dc controller?

Hello, I have 2013 rxv ezgo. We were going up hill and it quit. Sometimes it's wants to go for a few seconds. I followed all your troubleshooting in video. I'm wondering if it's pedal switch. I have 48v on red wire and 0 on green. On accelerator sensor I have 5v on orange 0v on black and 0v on yellow. When I push pedal down I have 5v on orange 5v on yellow and 0v on black. Hi I have a txt 48v done all the test you recommended and all reading correct cart has new solenoid, new controller and ITS and still won’t run got reverse buzzer but solenoid still won’t click ?
It has the f&r switch is on the dash. Charged all the batteries changed a couple of battery cables and cleaned the rest of them. I got it going . Took it back to my aunts she drove it about 2 days and it got real slow wouldn't hardly go. Any help is appreciated
When you hit the gas and the solenoid click. While you hold the gas down. Does it click back out by itself. Or it doesn’t click back out until you let go of the gas
I couldn’t understand the 3rd common problem (my 1 yo broke the speaker on my phone) you said it’s a bad what? - reed switch - key switch - ??? Thanks!
I did all the test in the video everything checks out and I just replaced the solenoid I have all the correct voltage back up alarm is loud but cart won't move in either direction any ideas on what I can check next
I removed the rubber mat they was a little cover with 2 Phillips screws took cover off at the back of cover they are 2 wires one has 14.7 volts and other has 1 volt then I press the pedal it goes to 2.7 volts
