Hi Josh, yeah the chain does go back to the rear axle and there is also a disc brake (you can see it on the review page then scroll down to Google Plus link with pictures). The disc brake could hit if you rode over a large rock between the rear wheels but given that the wheels are much larger than the disc sticking down, it probably wouldn't hit if you with straight up or off a curb.
I just purchased a Schwinn meridian trike. Looking at getting a front hub motor with at least 500 watts. Magic pie makes one that goes 500-1000 watts depending on how much voltage you wanna run. My trike will be used for hauling and commuting. Always rode bicycles and am looking forward to the three wheels for something different. Thanks for the video
It only comes with reflectors, no lights. My top speed got around 20 but I was pedaling and going on hilly terrain. I think it's only designed to power you up to 15 mph. You can always go faster by pedaling, that's true of any ebike, and since this one has pedal assist (PAS) it makes that a bit easier to do.
Sometimes I use Slime, I like the pre-slimed tires that some eBikes come with but it can be a little messy to do on your own. I also like the tire liners you can get to protect from thorns. I'm not sure where 240lbs falls in the spectrum of "average" bike riders but it's definitely more than I weigh. Some bikes like the Pedego Interceptor are beefier and have bigger motors so they would be great for you! The founder of Pedego is a larger guy but he still likes torque and speed :)
I know this is an old video but, I'm new to it. How does an E trike handle ice and snow? I asked this same Q on another one of your video's. Can the trike take the beating of 3inch snow over bumpy ice? Is the trike just for seniors on a nice warm sonny day, a flat street down a middle class neighborhood? Never do these sellers ever show how much toughness a trike can take without having to go to an industrial trike. Love your video's and I have learned a lot.
Over time the battery on this bike will lose capacity faster than if it was a Lithium-ion battery. Currie says to expect ~500 charge cycles before it starts to degrade. In terms of distance for one ride, I'd estimate 15 to 20 miles and that depends on rider weight, terrain and wind conditions.
How many volts is the battery 24v. or 36v. I'm looking online for the battery and charger. Some on ebay.I took pitchers of the ezip ebike and the battery inputs where you put the batteries. Before I purchase the batteries I want to make sure it fits and works. Because the way my ezip battery mount looks the shape on both ends looks different from the battery they selling on ebay. Mines has a circle shape on both sides or ends. And the ones they selling on ebay is all square or rectangular. But I hope it fits and works ?? If I can show you a pitcher of the ebike I have let me know ??

Good question... I haven't ever tried that bike or seen it in person but I feel like the quality on eZip stuff has really gone up in recent years. Coaster brakes make sense and I'm sure the rear-motor worked alright. My biggest concern with an older model would be the battery having aged or perhaps run through all of its cycles. If I were getting one used I'd consider the cost of a replacement battery when deciding whether it was a good deal or not. Even if it's not used, make sure the shop charged the battery every month or so because if it gets too low the chemistry can become damaged :)
Electric Bike Review At 1:20 you mention it has no differential but it's important to note the pedals and brake drive only one rear wheel; the other is free-wheel and not connected to the driving chain & shaft.
Jimbo S Great points Jimbo, thanks for calling that out. This is how the Ridekick Power Trailer also drives and one tire tends to wear out faster as a result.
Electric Bike Review Do you think a front hub motor on a trike makes sense? I took my rear-drive trike up a slippery hill and the tire did slip. Probably no worse with a front-wheel motor. Wish I had more money to buy a new e-bike.
Jimbo S They definitely aren't the cheapest products are they... Well, I think the rear wheel drive makes sense on a trike because that's where the weight is, kind of like a truck. If the tires are slipping it might be that there is water or ice on the ground? Maybe the tire tread has all worn off. I don't have that much experience with trikes but maybe someday there will be an all wheel drive electric trike for the best hauling ability!
Thanks for the bike review. Valuable report. I knew of a guy that had a Schwinn Trike and put a 750 watt motor on the front and promptly damaged the forks. The guy now thinks weaker motors work best on trikes with steel forks. A with any adult trike I bet a person has to really slow down on the turns on this trike, I do like the paint job and low step thru for easy mounting. The Schwinn looks a lot like this trike.
I agree with your friend, if it's a front mounted motor design I'd stick with 350w or less (even 250 can be powerful enough to really improve how you ride and cut down on the effort of climbing). Trikes do tip easier than two wheeled bicycles because you can't really lean them. This eZip Tri-Ride is an entry level offering but it can work alright if you take care of the battery and don't go on really bumpy surfaces :)
Electric Bike Review I love your reports. I have a trike so I am going to install the kit you reviewed in another report. These upright trikes are great for running to the store or perhaps at a large factory or apartment complex where an employee needs to get around. They do tip easily and are not capable of "racing around". Right now I use a trailer on my Ebike to go to the store. I won't have to hook up when I complete this project.
Zed Bowman Those are some great ideas for use, I've seen some companies that have bicycles to get around campus but trikes could be even more stable and useful for transporting books, laptops and other supplies! Good luck with the conversion kit, that's a great option if you've already got a good trike :)
Hi ranged slayer, this bike is $1,399 and you can order it online from the eZip website. It is legal on most city streets but you don't need a license or insurance to ride. The full details of the bike can be found through the link in the description. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Hey ElectricBikeReview, This is the same tricycle that I have.. Is there a model number on it? If so, what is the number? I'm trying to figure out a problem with the battery.. Battery hook up and wiring
After building and riding over 2000 mileson my trike, I find you need a Large battery for distance 25 AH. or more. A 1000 watt front hub motor for ease of service and speed. You need to ride on the highways. One thing I have found is you only need a good front brake. The rear brake doesnt do much, a front brake does just fine for stopping the bike from 30 mph. The baskets on ALL 3 wheelers SHOULD BE LARGER to accommodate more groceries etc! TAKE NOTE! I am a handicapped senior. Learn to ride the trike. Practice, practice practice!
Yeah! They don't make this ebike anymore but some dealers still have it and you might be able to order online. It uses throttle only so you just twist (even from stop) and the bike gets moving, then you can pedal all you want. If you can't find this trike anywhere I recommend checking out this kit which can be installed on most regular trike bicycles: electricbikereview.com/e-bikekit/e-trike-kit/
Nice Video Man. Please , I just wanna understand how the transmission is working without the differential. If it's direct , how come the wheels don't slide when you turn .
Great question, I'd like to help you but this review was shot quite a while ago. The wheels may have slid a bit when turning but my turns were not very sharp and ride time was limited. Maybe this will help, I took a bunch of photos up close that show the chain and rear axle here: plus.google.com/photos/+ElectricBikeReview/albums/5857593739455797073
i bought a 2009 barely used by an older women, it feel off the truck! So and i need a new seat handle bar and fenders. where can i get replacements I would like to get front and back lights . I would like to upgrade the fenders. please help me I'm an old lady and could use some advice.
An old retired guy with heart had this same model brake down after 8 month of use. The chair broke and the battery did not accept a charge unless it totally drained. This is too expansive of an adventure for a retired guy like m.
Haha, did you see my other review with the RideKick? I was cruising past a school right when class got out and quite possibly doing 20, though I was being vigilant!
The top speed on this trike is ~12 miles per hour according to the company. There is no speedometer so I was unable to confirm. I have listed some more details for this bike back at the website which is linked in the description of this video and the others I do: electricbikereview.com/ezip/tri-ride/
That keeps it affordable and given the large stable trike design it works alright. This thing is meant for lower speeds. SLA are still used for many applications including virtually every car starter. They do wear out faster however and also weigh a lot more :)
Yes. Agreed. I noticed the Torker Hybrid is using lithium. Light weight small out of the way. I haven't bought one tho... it is a budget buster. Still shopping. It also has only a 250watt gear ... good energy economy.
Hey Jimbo, do you mean comments or posts on the website? I've been moving some videos around but they should all still be here. What seems to be missing?
as far as I know most of these vehicles are being made in china, skipping to add a differential does reflect in the quality of the product, and the cost of the missing part is their profit, yet I believe that this will come back to bite them, as people will tend to get a vehicle with differential included, lets also note the lack of tilting capabilities and the over exposed battery and gadgets
