Well made video. I know the area is extremely tight but I wish you would have shown the bolt locations and how to access them with a socket wrench. I pulled the driver's side wheel and removed one bolt through the well.
That particular bolt at the top of the adapter is the easiest one to reach if you remove the Tire and wheel well guard, There are 2 vertically to the right of the adapter and one more just below you can just reach with extensions, you will have a better chance with at least 12" of extension bar and a socket swivel adapter, hold the extension firmly and turn slowly.. you might also need a leverage bar for torque.. I just want to point out most of the videos on this subject don't mention how important torque specs are on this part. If it isn't torqued properly it will leak like mad... 18ft pounds on the bolts, you will be good with 20. Start on the center bolt then the other one on the other side of the oil ports and then move to the others. Happy wrenching.
I've had 2 occasions when this adapter had leaks on my 2004 FX4. First was after the dealer installed a remanufactured engine, so they fixed under warranty. The second was when I had began a road trip leaving Wlliston North Dakota with the first stop in Billings, Montana. Now I had just did an oil change a couple days before and noticed oil on the ground at the hotel. Talk about in a pickle about the ruin my trip. A shop in Billings installed a new one as there was a gash somehow on the filter gasket surface. Good video looks like a tough but doable repair.
I can’t find an answer but I’m about to put this new gasket on, do you guys suggest removing the sensor on the adapter, cleaning it and applying a type of sealer to the threads?
tango dad because it was a good quality gasket I did not put any sealant, but if you would like to put a little bit of silicone gasket maker sealant it won't hurt.
1st thing, I'm not going to recommend what tools to use, you might not have these or you might have a preference.. metric, American, impact, drill etc.. if you're do for an oil change, you might as well drain your oil and remove the oil filter (oil filter will need to be removed anyways) if the oil is good, just drain a few quarts or until nothing shows on dipstick.. also ,go ahead and unplug the sensor to the adapter housing and make sure that sensor contact is clean and dry before reconnect.. Use a deep pan that will fit under your Truck work room area for your Antifreeze coolant, if The coolant still looks clean, strain it through a clean rag and reuse it when you are done with the install... Quicker way to drain the coolant is remove tire and tire well guard, unclamp and drain the large radiator hose from bottom of radiator.. give it time to empty, unclamp Large hose from adapter housing and drain what is left from the Adapter and upper engine itself in a separate pan (you might still get a fluid mixture here).. One bolt will be easy to access through the open wheel well area, also these Will give you easier access if the mating surface needs prepping (old gasket sticking or pieced stuck on or rusting and or pitted mating surface).. The other 3 bolts can be removed from beneath the vehicle.. Good luck..
I've got a 2007 F150 5.4 FX4, and the dealers shop manual says "Add Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1. Refer to Maintenance product specifications and capacities in this chapter. Note: Use of Motorcraft Cooling System Stop Leak Pellets or an equivalent product meeting Ford specification WSS-M99B37-B6, may darken the color of Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant from yellow to golden tan." I like the GM tablets. Work great and good insurance. I believe my radiator reservoir cap even has an image of an X over a pouring green color image.
