I ordered the assist and rewatched this video to make sure I understood the directions. I grabbed the DeeZee package and out to the driveway I went (in my robe and slippers..lol we don't have neighbors). I went out to our shop and found the recommended tools and headed back to the tailgate of our 2019 F150. It took me less than five minutes to do this. Tested the tailgate and woolah, it works perfectly. Thank you for sharing this video. You make my life easier!
Left out of this instruction video is the new upper bracket placed where the torx nut was pulled, and edited video of that misery of getting that torx nut off 😂. Have a breaker bar handy!
great video and photography --excellent narration but .............. You did skip the "putting on the top piece that the shock attaches to." I was confused by the omission first time thru.
A short hydraulic tailgate assist strut is so useful! My daddy's 2020 Mitsubishi Triton Athlete has that feature from the factory, so no problem with that.
I've had these on 3 of my trucks already. Very good component. First one used for 7yrs and shock still work to the day I sold the truck. ** Also a must have for people with kids. Makes a heavy tail gate safe.
I installed these on my 2009 and now on my 2012 and love it, although I wish mine were installed like this. I have the model where you have to insert the tailgate pivot into a hole on the tailgate. About every year or two I have to replace that part because they always work themselves loose. Very poor design. This new design will be a LOT better. Wish this would fit on my 2012.
I installed the OEM gas shock on my truck. It hides inside the passenger side tail light lense. Took about 15 minutes to do and looks much better than seeing an exposed shock.
What you didn't mention is that in case you spaced out and installed the shock upside down, (pull out past on top) you can NOT remove it without breaking the entire shock part!
Will this work on the newer FORD tailgates with the "STEP" integrated into the tailgate??? If not, what will? Our tailgate is heavy because it has that "crappy" step system. It's truly worthless and the plastic pops off almost every time we use it. I've had it repaired multiple times. But, I'd love to install this if it'll work for our truck.
That was easy. My Thailand built Toyota 2022 Rivo pickup has hinge bolts that won't release. #40 spline screws are solid. From inside tailgate there are nuts holding but not enough room for socket. Can't remove. Any ideas. Don't want to drill out. Help...
After installing the Dee Zee tailgate assist on my 2017 F150 l desired to install led tail light bulbs. A real pain in the butt to pop the spring clip to gain access to the top tail light bolt
Am I crazy here or is my tailgate not flush after installing? Any of y’all see the same thing? Passenger side is flush but on the drivers side where I installed it I can see the components through a visible crease
FYI IF YOU HAVE A 2017 F-150? Will this fit on a 2017 F150? A: As per Dee Zee this will not work on your 2017 Ford F150. They will be releasing new part number 43205 that is designed for you vehicle in early March. I hope this helps! Mary/DirectDistributing
The video was pretty good, but it failed to show the installation of the top bracket. Easy enough to figure it out, but doesn't make much sense not to show it.
But you need something to prevent idiots who walk by your truck and drop the tailgate though. Happened to me. A coworker came by and opened mine and let it drop...didn't do damage but it can...
If somebody did that to mine on purpose I would drop my fist in his face. If done by accident I would drop f-bombs in his ear so he knows that next time there won't be a next time.
A full size tailgate is a little heavy for a kid. My six year old son almost dropped the tailgate on his head but I caught it. I'm planning on getting one of these
It does not fit your 2018, but here is an even better kit that does fit www.cjponyparts.com/ford-tailgate-damper-kit-oem-f-150-2015-2018-f-150-raptor-2017-2018/p/FL3Z99406A10A/ And yes we ship internationally!
Completely skip over the second bracket install. Also, the clear "adhesive" has barely any stick. Cheap off brand scotch tape has better sticking. Ended up throwing the clear junk away.
You cant use the exact one we used in the video, but this one will work for your 2010 www.cjponyparts.com/dee-zee-truck-tailgate-assist-shock-black-kit-f-150-2007-2014/p/DZ43200/
Bought it from online from Bear Lake Autonation Ford. They have the most complete online store! Also compared the prices from local Floridian Autonation Fords, can't beat it.
Looks like even from discount eBay sellers those two parts are more expensive than the Dee Zee equiv. I do prefer stock/OE parts when I can thanks for the info though jeason gagnon
I bought mine. The top connector rusted and broke after 2 months. They wouldn't replace it and hung up on me several times when I demanded a replacement. GARBAGE
