@@bertronix182 Gripen E costs more than a Block 70 F-16. The one which is cheaper is the Gripen C/D variant but is has less payload and range, different airframe from the E/F and its production line is closed.

I would say that Gripen E is better choice for Phillippeans they'll get more aircrafts in good price & the weapons package & the highlighting EW suite which has matched the likes of Rafale & TYPHOON in airtoair combact. Gripen is a very effecient fighter jet which I don't know why never get the due it deserves because Sweden is not the permanent memeber of UN.
@@dans78no. He meant UN. Sweden does not sit in the UN Security Council and is why it cannot sell weapons so well. If you buy from the US, you get UN vote protection. If you buy from Sweden, Sweden will embargo you as soon as there is any shooting because Sweden scared of the Chinese and like love and peace and all that.
14 Gripen with dedicated support, maintenance and long range anti-ship missiles for maritime security deterrence and 45 combat F16's. Philippine airforce are already training in Australia for the incoming Multi role fighters.
@@userjlj The Ukraine was promised 45 F-16s. The Philippines was cleared to purchase 12 F 16’s from Denmark in 2021 but could not find the money. Those F-16s are now going to Ukraine and Argentina. Greece is trying to sell some of their old F-16s. Argentina would like more and Brazil is looking to possibly upgrade to the F-16 too. Poland has also offered up close to 20 MiG-29s if they are given a suitable substitute.
While the F-16 is the better plane, the JAS-39 is better for the Philippines budget but most importantly, given the Philippines proximity to China, the JAS-39 has better survival-ability as its made for austere operations
In Ukraine-Russia conflict, most allied nations want to give their F16 to the Ukrainian air force, The problem is it will take more than a year to fly that plane. Hope Philippines will learn from this.
It is unlikely that the Philippines does not defend itself from Chinese aggression. Acquiring fighter jets is one of the indications. Maybe both fighter jets should be acquired.

The Gripen is designed to counter Russian jets. China mainly copied all Russian designed jets. so the Gripen is well suited for the Philippines also the gripen is at par when it comes to price with the F16's but at lower maintenance cost. F16's has E warfare variant but the Gripen has the capability of being an MRF with integrated excellent Ewarfare capability.
in 1997 the philippine air force considered purchasing the f/a-18 C/D variants of that aircraft the reason why it not proceed because of the financial crisis back then
I would go with the Gripn it actually meets their requirements and is built to be cost effective and quick an easy to get in the air. It can also land on poor surfaces. The F16 will have a better weapons loadout but be way more expensive
but majority of the core parts of Gripen is USA made.. if we dont want to be dependence of US we should go for Rafale or Typhoon. or better yet KF21 or The Turkish Kaan.

That's what i also think about the F-16 has logistical advantage "during wartime" whereas the USA and it's territories or the parts source have vector proximity in the country. Thought the Gripen is a very juicy proposition because of advantageous physical capabilities.
@@CharlieDean-ki6wb you also have to factor in training and aircraft availability, the F-16 already has a very wide user base making maintenance and replacements easier… the Gripen is an outstanding aircraft and has more advanced avionics than the basic F-16s but transitioning pilots between aircrafts will take time just like what happened in Ukraine…
For me, gripen e would be best choice, considering the current number of fighters the country has. Thus, it is more logical to purchase fighters with great speed and long operational range it which the gripen has the upper hand. AFP must have quick and deadly fighters in it's arsenal considering the vast territory it needs to cover and with very limited number of operational fighters

The Swedish gripen jets as stats provide are more closer to 5th gen fighters while f-16s are now outdated typical 4th gen not 4.5 literally 3.5 tp 4 lol
And the AFP modernization is barely a decade old its still ramping up its modernization and they will be acquiring more modern assets in the next 10 years
Phil can get initial 12 Nos SAB 39 E then place an order for 24 Nos F16 Block 70 Viper and use the EDA to get additional 36 Nos used F16 CD to be transferred after order of F6 Viper for retrofit to Block 70 in 3 phases ,12 Nos per phase will allow PAF to use the 24 F16 CD
both planes are on China's intelligence because of Pakistan and Thailand are known to be China's bootlickers... they know the strength and weaknesses and they knew how it works and how it was made, we must outsource other manufacturers, Japan had Shinshin but their no export laws are still implemented... south Korea and Indonesian joint venture on their new KF21 might be the best option to choose for now as it was made in secrecy
Has not South Korea uppgraded the newest FA50 PH have today of older versions. Then those FA50 more modern might be the best and chepest för PH. The new KF21 Is still not in action what I know so it will tace to long to wait for? The China kan start war imminent

As war thunder player here I highly recommend for real military air force requirements for new aircraft fighters/ multirole Jets and Air supiority Aircraft the best candidate is F-16C Block 50/51 or New variants F-16 Block 70/71 Lockheed Martin design, it's very Modern variants and improved Sensor and Missile system SAM/ air to ground/ CAS/ Air to Air capabilities/ latest anti Missile system and it have best Engine for Multirole Aircraft definitely F-16s can competing the Chinese New SU-27 Flanker or SU-35S Flanker E and Mig-29s variants even if the F-16 pretty expensive to buy and maintenance and training programs and supply for parts F-16s are very useful and more dangerous for Chinese Air Forces
it is much better to acquire the Gripen giving its cost-effective advantage and let the US operate the F 16 by allowing them access to more bases to assist in the front against China. Why buy the expensive F 16 when you can lease bases for them to which they will use to defend the Philippines based on the Mutual Defense Pact, that's what they wanted anyway.
i think we're getting both (f16V and JAS 39 E/F) i heard that USA offers second hand f16 C/D that could easily convert to Vipers if they picked the vipers and sweden offers their AWACS if they select the gripens

F16's are going to be provided by the Americans via the PERA act $2.5 Billion, it's a bill to modernize the defense capabilities of the Philippines, and for other purposes enacted and signed by the US senate. The US will not allow their funds to be used to buy that aren't made by American companies like Lockheed Martin. The Philippines own National defense budget are the ones going to be use to buy the Gripen

F-16 & FA-50 (which is the PH Air Force has) has the same technology and usability so that will be the advantage. However it has high-maintenance costs, and long delivery timeframe as well.
The Gripen -E is new, and more advanced ECM and AESA radar and avionics and much cheaper to acquire, operate and maintain - perfect for the PH. The F-16 V is proven, battle-tested and has a large client base, but is very expensive. But the US and PH are very close defense allies and strategic partners and has more sway and the US has great influence in the country. 97% of Filipinos trusts the USA (while an overwhelming 85% of Filipinos consider China as a very serious threat to the country's national security). So it might boil down to a political decision if the PH selects the F-16 V.
It's more practical to have Jas 39 Gripen E instead of F16 as the country's main MRF. If Gripen C had defeated Chinese jet fighters then Gripen C had lost to FA50 why not buy a squadron of single seat version of FA50? Then buy 4 to 8 squadrons of Jas 39 Gripen E and a squadron of Jas 39 Gripen F for training new pilots.
Plot twist: *they award the contract for 24 KAI KF21s.. sometimes the PH govt have a good (and bad) habit of surprising us Filipinos, but it'll be really nice if this do happen. but if this will go by the book, they would get the JAS39, not just because of the aircraft itself, but because of what it can carry: the MBDA Meteor, which is known as one of the most dangerous BVR missiles in the world.
No matter the choice is that we are all winners if the MRF program pushes through. This has been the ultimate topic since the 90s. Sad thing is there is so much red tape going on and no sense of urgency to get this done. The navy and coast guard is beefing up while the air domination factor is still nothing.
The Philippine government should choose the Saab Gripen! They are MOST modern, upgradable, compatible with many NATO/intechangeable with ALL weapon systems, can land on destroyed runways/higways! The American government wishes to sell the F-16 because they are too old, expensive to maintain, and they wish to keep the jobs that make the F-16…DO not buy it!
for me i much prefare gripen for the time being for we are short of budget this plane is almost same as F35 the most important is we have the plane to be used to protect our nation which is capble of defending our teritories and our nation
Other countries buy enough aircraft to equip squadrons, even our ASEAN neighbors. Philippines is better off investing in Anti-access/Area Denial systems and acquire enough aerial and sea drones to effectively and cheaply counter aggressor states who have real navies and air forces.
PAF must Consider buying the Jas 39 Grippen E. As this is EU - NATO fighting jets .The most Advance none stelth Aircraft. Plus transfer of technology as Swedens Offered to us.
I think gripen and f16 list will set asside due to the treats that the Philippine facing Right now.... The france dassault rafale was the decided future procurement as per the dnd... Philippines has an unusual archipelagic territory and it requires a very wide area defense coverage... The dassault rafale was the choice...
1 dozen f16, 1 dozen f50, 1 dozen big warship, 1 dozen military camp, 1 dozen missilecamp, 1 doz. Iron dome, 1 doz radar, 1 dozen submarine thats what we need for now.
I personally prefer the Gripen E/F for the Philippine Air Force but knowing how pushy the Yanks are... We'll most likely wind up with a lot of second-hand F-16s & they're not even the latest Viper variant! We'll even be forced to pay for the upgrades, too, or at least for part of it!
Buy Both why? Because this will take time to make or build. It's not same as buying a mobile phone or other assets it I'll not be delivered in a week. We need all this ASAP.
Get both. But first acquire Gripen E for its longer range, it's cheaper and we needed it now. Then acquire F-16s in the future! Then we can see FA-50s + Gripen Es + F16's flying in our skies!
