Sensational. It doesn't have thrust vectoring but it does perform like it has one. My uneducated guess is that, could it be the huge leading edge root extension that's making the aircraft do such maneuvers. Also, it's impressive how such maneuvers can be done while its loaded. None of the Sukhoi Flanker videos (of course, not all of the videos available to the world wide web) I've seen do it loaded when they do demonstrations.
Hornet has long LERX (acts like forward canard), rear horizontal stabilizer extending beyond engine nozzle and can'ted twin tails access to airflow during high AoA. F-35's rear horizontal stabilizer pivot point is placed after engine nozzle and it's oversize, hence faking TVC functions. Vertical tails are useless during high AoA.

No russian fighter has ever, and will never be very closely compared to any us fighter, no matter it's an old F-15, F-14, the awsome F-16 or F-18 Super Hornet, not to talk about the Raptors agility which outclasses them all:P, especially the russian's Su-27/30/35/37/47's which might have TV nozzlez, but the LIFT/WEIGHT RATIO which is the most important one in the combat to power through a turn is poor for the SU's despite the raptor...!

I'm just going buy what F14 pilots told me about the aim54 and what I know of my time firing the Aim-7B and Aim7m models, they also had experience with the Aim7 model so I take there word for it.
@TheScrumpty, SuperHornetTV was in the Navy for 9 years, so you can't jeopordize that. After his tour, his didn't want to re-enlist. He was a yeoman for 2 years, then a yellow shirt for three years on the USS Ronald Reagan, and after, worked with VFA-25. He didn't want to re-enlist for many reasons. HIs girlfriend was one of em, and he had other personal issues that kept him from re-enlisting. On the other hand, F-14's and F-15's are evenly matched. Neither are better than each other....
Indeed, and maybe no Hornet will ever be able to reach it's goals in the past;), i wish that one man would still be able to fly the Tomcat nowadays for airshows:) Let's hope the Hornet will proove it's remarks in the future, and maybe try to recreate what had the Tomcat meant to all of us. The American F15 pilots were also out numbered, couldn't use the helmet mounted targeting system for the AIM9X. There were conditions for the dogfight that often favored the SU30MKI.
I'm glad you like it!;) I miss the Tomcat though..., if at least one man in this life could still fly it(as an american who loved the F-104 and flies it), maintain it and keep it for airshows so that everyone can still live within it..., that man would be a legend;) I love the Tomcat more than the hornet to be honest, it's better than it in everything else, than weapons loadout, dogifight abilies or EW(Electronic Warfare) - where the Hornet dominates;)
@Battery9876 Yes, I know I've already watched it. The point is that the F-14 is manuverable for its size. Okay, 6.5g's I'm not sure about that one. But the fact is that its not entirely dependent on the type of aircraft, its mostly based on how good the pilot is. Who knows, maybe the Tomcat pilots made a mistake? No one knows except the pilots themselves and their instructors. The turn rate was more than decent for its size. F-14 is respected by many, including other fighter pilots.
And that's what the video is more about!;) It's agility in an air to ground attack, which for an amount can also increase it's survivability within the enemy fire, or even be able to sustain a dogfight, without the need of dropping critical loadouts for the acomplish of it's mission...! I love the Superhornet especially for it's performances and agility, which very few aircrafts are able to manage...!:) Thanks for watching:D
Yeah the air shows in Russia weren't really recorded for the future :( I never seen that kind of flying on huge international displays in England or France. But as I said what I saw was in Russia. Back then tapes were pricey and after a short time it was probably recorded over if it was filmed at all. Problem is not the planes ability but rather the rigidity and strength of the suspensions/pylons. They'd be the limiting factor.
AIM-54 is indeed a good missile with better radar guidance seeker than the AIM-7M. I like the AIM-120C7/D better. The best air to air missile that I can trust plus it's lighter, maneuverable & less expensive.
Here's the video he's probably talking about and it pretty much confirm comments made in this vid. Every high AOA maneuver the flanker does with a weapons turns it into a brick, unlike this hornet which seems to maintain control constantly. Well, the video prooved it well, maybe the F-18 SH haven't been yet in a real dogfight or ground attack, but as we can see, it can hold on it's own well in many situation;)! I love the Hornet...! Heard that romanians will buy F-16's from Lockheed, though, earlier before they thought about buying Gripens...! The F-16 still can turn and climb like a Gripen... but don't know about the onboard systems..., are they better for Gripen or still the F-16 rules? Depends on who driven them to buy F-16's!
Anyway the Flankers still have the maneuvering advantage even with Thrust Vectoring. Its Ibris E AESA Radar and AA-11 Archer missile makes it a mean adversary. It's R-77 is also deadly. However,
R-77 equals US's AIM-120 AA-11 equals US's AIM-9 Yes, the Flanker has thrust vectoring, but it is unclear if the outstanding maneuverability of the Flanker can be utilized when it has a full load of weapons. This is what this Super Hornet's video is all about.

Also about the F-4's and F-14's. The F-4 was only used in trials when the F-14 first came out. The A-4's and F-5's were still used later on. Even the new F-16N came out which were stripped down versions which made it even more manuverable. The A-4 Mongoose was also stripped down and gained more maunverability. Now generally speaking, the F-5's, A-4's, and F-16N's are MORE manuverable than the F/A-18. If the F-14 beat the A-4's, F-5's, and F-16N's, then it can SURE as hell beat the F/A-18.
@windex210 Im not trying to discredit the AIM 120D, rather, I know it uses conventional propellant, this is what limits its ultimate range and speed. The Missiles size and weight has to stay within certain limits to fit across aircraft hanging racks. European developed RAM Jet motors have surpassed this conventional Missile, it really is, that simple. Miniature RAM Jet technology is European led, and a lot of developement time has gone into it. I cant see them giving it away anytime soon either
I really like the super hornet. certainly the f16 has more high speed maneuverability, but at low speed I think the super hornet has some awesome moves.

I've heard of some Hornet drivers that have flown both the older Charlie and the E/F Super Hornet, and a few of them have said they actually prefer the older Hornet because it's a bit smaller and more nimble than the SH. After watching your video, I'm not so sure I agree with that. But then, all of my fighter jet time is in a simulator. What are your thoughts on that Maverick? You certainly made the "Superbug" look quite nimble indeed.
Remember that the super hornet has modified to do what it is doing Can anyone see the new hornets modification, from the original?? The Tomcat was exceptional and the Hornet had to meet it.
Well I've known him for quite awhile now. I've seen his side of the story. Rest be assured that he is not lying about anything. And one other thing, if the Super Hornet had 3 fuel tanks, plus weapons hanging under its wings, it would be NOWHERE near as being manuverable as the Tomcat. Todays warfare is shooting the enemy BVR. If the Tomcat was upgraded more, it would've still been the tip of the spear. It was for 36 years!! If the F-14 can beat the F-5, then it CAN beat the Super Hornet.
The only other tactic I heard being used by IAF was to fool the F15 doppler radar by going perpendicular to the radar's center axis. Going into an unkown scenario, nothing is a walk in the park...don't assume what the American pilots thought.
Since Hughes merged with Raytheon, the active radar version of the AIM-7 was called off. Else, I would like to see AIM-7R vs AIM-120C. Any comment on the R-27R and R-77? My country got them from Mig-29SN & Su-30MKM package purchased. For F/A-18D they come with AIM-7M for earlier batch and later small numbers of AIM-120C5.

Yes..., these are factors which significantly turn the tide to the one which can prove the survivability to both the BVR combat as well as ACM, and that's a lame for the JSF:P! F-18E has reduce vertical surfaces e.g. angled engine housing and angled tails. Advance Super Hornet variant can reach US export stealth limit outside of F-35 JSF group.
Don't get me wrong ,its a great a/c But it is not a genuine 5th gen. and thats that. F18, F16 and F15 are all meant to be repalced in the near future by the F22's and F35's , The F15SE is only a proposed upgrade and hasn't been done yet. Limited 5th gen. capability gets you only so far. The kill ratio of 4.5 vs. 5th gen is still heavily in the favor of a true 5th gen.

@215alessio Agreed. Why is Su-35BM (now known as Su-35S) called Gen4++ and Super Hornet a Gen5? I know for a fact that Su-35S can outturn and outperform Super Hornet in every way possibly except RCS in clean configuration but THAT is meaningless in battle since both carry weapons/fuel/pods externally
The A-10 have taper wings, this wing produce more lift (less speed) and also the benefecit of more weapons load carry in his pylons, more that F-35, also two engines, not one as F-35, this mean more relaible and protected in battle damage, two stabilizers if one fail, double wired, armor and 30mm, its old but this dont mean: usless or bad.
MetaliCanuck, Wouldn't an aircraft with a big radar have a better lock than an aircraft with a small one? In other words would an F-14 or F-15 have a better probability of kill with sparrows than an F-16 or F-18?
Hi MetaliCanuck, are u sure that AIM-7M has better radar guidance than AIM-54C? In terms maneuverability, air force in my country stated that F-16C Block 50/52 has better maneuverability than Mig-29 & F/A-18D Hornet. I only know that the Hornet could turn at much lower speed due to greater lift area from the wing. Best for making opponents overshoot like Spitfire vs BF109
Moreover the F-18E is capable of about 50deg aoa, so it can almost mimick the manoeuvers of a TV equipped aircraft while keeping its lift. An F-18E would beat the crap out any a tomcat at close range. The SH is likely to have first detection with its AESA combined with its low frontal RCS. And its radar is virtually impossible to jam. It wins hands down in BVR. It's very advanced jammers combined with its low RCS makes the aircraft much more survivable than the F-14.

The Pilot says, that its a 5th gen aircraft. It is NOT. Its a 4.5 gen. aircraft. It might have very limited 5th gen. capability and it does not have the stealth capabilities of a true 5th gen. a/c like those of f-22 and f-35
Isn't AIM-7F vs AIM-7M a better comparison? AIM-7B/E are obsolete earlier generation. If you launched an AIM-7M at Su-27 at 20Nm, the Su-27 launched R-27R at you. If you take evasive maneuver spoofing the R-27 early enough and resume locking on that Flanker, will the AIM-7M lost guidance or will it be able to home in on that Flanker?
Gee I was always taught most 60-70s era aircraft were based off 3rd gen fighters, the SH is 4th gen, the F15s original design doesn't touch it when it comes to technology.

I just said that the Iraqi Air Force lost almost more than half of their Air Force due to Iranian F-14's and F-4's. This war theatre demonstrated the Phoenix missile's success in shooting down MiG-25's, 21's, 23's, and many others. The kills were all recorded in a book by an American author, the book is called "Iranian Tomcats In Action." The F-16 sure is a nimble fighter, but it doesn't make any other fighter a piece of shit. F-16N's went up against F-14's, wins were fair at Top Gun.
And how many times did the MKI shoot down the american plane? And FYI they did it when: 1. Their radars were in training mode. 2. They were not using AWACS and had to depend upon radio com. with american awacs 3. their aircraft to aircraft data link was turned off 4. they were not allowed to use chaff which the americans used. Also bud, do tell me about the cope india series of exercises, in which upgraded MIg-21, Mig-29, su-30's(not MKI) had a kill ratio of over 90%

FACT is that even though the Tomcat can't, it still DID in fact beat F-5's in training dogfights, even A-4's. The F-14's have been doing that for 36 years at Top Gun, Fallon NAS, etc. Your 30 mile range thinking of the F-14 is WRONG. The F-14 well had over 100 miles of BVR capability.....doesn't the phoenix missile ring a bell? Yeah, I thought so. I do know something that you don't =P
@fmoa This Hornet is Gen 4 at best. A warmed over bird only. Although for me, this bird is a LOT more capable than say the F35, would you not agree? Europe and even Russia have more capable A2A Missile technology than this. AIM 9x is short range, so is AIM 120 family by comparison.
Why wouldn't a be a 5th gen. fighter as it is built around 5th gen. fighters and does all the things for..., and more... no other fighter in the world without TV is able to do the things it does...! It's as fast as the earlier hornets or even faster, turns thighter, and it's a deadly aircraft in both BVR or ACM with it's ultimate onboard systems! It is between the only planes that can announce of an IR missile closing in with some specially built sensors!;) And right..., they are very safe!;)
and as you said more aim9 and aim7 have made bigger # kills, the AIM7 is a pos and can be spoofed by pretty much every modern fighter in first world nations, but its better then the aim54 from the tomcats pilots I talked to , I fired Aim7m for 6 years, I know it capabilities and cons.
I don't trust the iranian figures for a second. The AIM-54 has been launched several times by USN F-14's in real combat and they all missed. Regarding F-14s vs other aircraft, I have heard of several exercises of F-14s against F-16s, F-15s and F-18s and the F-14s lost big time. For instance in a dogfight exercise back in the 80's against F-16s block 10s, they lost 86 to 1. The F-14 was designed primarily to destroy bombers at long range, for anything else it is inferior.
Please bro anytime a man tells you about brothers in arms going down don't even judge it. Tell me about when the Instructors were flying F14s against students in F18s, those are the facts that matter.
