I don't think its fair to call the F-21 and F 16v/FF the same. Yes they are based on the same f 16 platform, but don't forget that it is to this day a very capable platform. There are many significant changes. The electronics and cockpit is the same as the f 35 lightning, including gyroscopic stabilization and auto trim. There will be no internal buttons except for basic start stop and gears and stuff. Everything will be on a large color TFT display. The avionics will be brand new (the same as the F 22 Raptor). The body will be almost pure carbon composite material, unlike the older f 16s which are made out of metallic alloys. It will have the same coating of radar interfering substance as the F 35. The radar will be the same as the F 35. the weapon systems will be much better than F 16s. So i think that apart from the aesthetics, it is probably closer to an F22 or F 35 than to an actual older F 16 Falcon Edit: Not to mention, if we purchase from the US, it will obviously be more expensive than Russia or France, but it will open new investments in India. A new Lockheed factory. USA will become a new trade partner, overshadowing Pakistan. It is in fact in the best interest of the USA also, because a new strategic partner to counter Chinese advancements is exactly what the USA needs. It will build trust, if we purchase from them, instead of their rivals, Russia.

i would say that the 12-15 Billion USD allocated for MMRCA could be shifted to TEJAS MK2 and AMCA....TEJAS MK2 can somewhat deliver the same performation like F21.. Get 36 more RAFALES and stick to TEJAS and AMCA

We can't depend on foreign nations, geopolitics change. Recently Russia paused their export of S 400 missiles to China (it could be because of Vladivostok) But it is ample evidence to show that foreign exporters got this control and regulation over their export of arms. What if in the future India goes to war against one of their closest allies (not saying that it will happen) and they deny us export of essential defence equipments at that time ?

F-35 was developed by a consortium of countries including Japan. This is why they were given F-35. India was in a similar program with Russia but we pulled out.

F-18 Super Hornet Block 3 has a higher unit price, marginally higher cost per flight hour, the same engine that will be used on Tejas Mk2 and can cover the requirements of IAF and IN. In my opinion this will be the best option for IAF and IN.
i personally think F21 is a great deal. it has an amazing radar and sensor fusion. dont compare pakistani old F16 with it. they are old as 1988. even after additional 36 rafale, this perfectly fits gap for single engine fighter. plus, it can launch every non russian or chinese weapon in the world, may it be indian, european or american. yes, desi jets should be given first priority....but after that, F21 is the one to go for.......this view is strictly personal, and i know air force knows it better.....so, let them decide......
Well compared to the offer of LM, SAAB is giving much more attractive offers to pitch Gripen E, almost full TOT, indigenous manufacturing hub, assistance in manufacturing engines for Tejas MK2, etc.
Why can't we just increase the number of tejas mk2 instead of buying foreign jets. Saab can't provide tot as it simply assamble parts and sell gripen and f21 is based on old jet technology. And also operating too many different types of jet with create problems for IAF.

Government to Government negotiations between America and India should be done to purchase F35 rather than buying F21.Buy atleast two squadrons of F35A coz the price is similar to Rafale.The world is moving towards 5th Generation beleive me it'll create an intense pressure on our neighbours atleast on Pakistan! One F35A is enough to squeeze the balls of all militants and Pak Army even China will not be able to do anything ! i think that we should buy atleast 100 f21 which should be made in india by tata or any other indian company. but we should not leave tedbf and amca behind. because india needs more 4.5 gen aircrafts to fill the squadrons. atleast 100 f21 and 50 su75 to be made in india.
Gripen-E or F-18 makes more sense as they would be using the same engines as Tejas and the Upcoming 110 kn engine in the work for the AMCA can be used to substitute the GE engines, also cost of operations is Lower in the case of Gripen. If we look at the big picture Gripen or Rafale Makes a greater sense as we would be the second-biggest buyers for these which would make us an important customer, which would surely help in negotiations both present and future.

we should use the money from MRFA in doing the Super Sukhoi upgrade and rest for 36-54 rafale and possibly buy 2-3 more squadrons of Su-30mki fighters. we will get the fighters relatively quickly and in the short run we will have a severe quality edge over china and pakistan.

I think if we go for 36 more Rafael We should also buy some F21's and bring in Taiwan together by providing the other lot to them this might neutralize the things and then focus on the rest 100 tejas Mk2
If more upgradations can be done on it and we can do our on things on it like in Su30MKI, then I think it won't be such a bad idea. But of course Technology transfer should be kept in sight also. But in my opinion it should not matter much because we already have Tejas Mk2 and the AMCA projects underway. Instead of more than 100, we can buy a number fit enough for a few squadrons because we need good and effective aircraft to counter China and Pakistan at the same time considering the present situation. This is my opinion. I do believe though that IAF pilots did a simulator run of the F21 and didnt find it THAT good.
If F 21 purchased, then it will be manufactured by TATA. HAL is already overwhelmed 😔 with orders and anticipated orders in near future. HAL still need to deliver 83 LCA MK1A, (additionally if IAF or IN shows interest, then LCA LIFT Trainer aircraft SPORT), around 200 LCH + 200 Kamov KA 226T + approx 300-400 LUH, approx 200+ LCA MK 2 in future. HAL is also pitching these Indian aircrafts for export. Where the hell is that much production of aircrafts by HAL? And am sure that HAL don't have resources for these much of aircraft production like a hot cake out of owen.... And add F 21 production to this 🤯🤯 chaos... HAL will explode...

Two factors should be considered here...1. Will they allow us to integrate our own weapon system? & 2. What benefit will we get in terms of larger diplomacy..will they really help us to get a permanent seat in UNSC? or at least a NSG membership? Future is for drones. These Jets are absolute and vulnerable to air defense systems. They are also very expensive to run and maintain. Balakot airstrike could have been better carried out with swam drones.
Even drones needs engines Sir!! Neither India nor Israel makes world class energy efficient engines. Pratt n Witteny from Canada are best in Fighters n Drones. Sensors Radars Jammers Missiles n Lasers are areas we need to focus on as stop gap arrangements. For long term goals we need to focus on developing advance composite materials advance industrial n military grade material science n avionics n semiconductor components. I doubt that the IAF would go for a jet based on the F-16, however modern it might be. We would do well to go for 54 or 72 more Rafales, and focus tightly on our upcoming homegrown jets, the all-new 110KN engine, and the resuscitation of the Kaveri. Jai Hind.
F35 is a good offer but India ko sidhe AMCA 5th n 6th gen fighter par dhyan dena chahiye bcoz F21 ka select hona mushkil lag raha hai jabki nahi hona chahiye. I personally love F21 but tech transfer issue should be sorted out.
What makes a modern fighter a really modern? Is it aerodynamic frame or engine, or weapons or avionics? Yes, all of this, but what makes it real modern is 1. data fusion, 2. Data centric warfare, 3. Communication 4. Situational awareness by sensors and 5. AI, to make decision in split second. So what does F 21 bring new on table and what Technologies will be shared with us? Sadly not much. We shall be doing screwdrivergiri. My take is bit different, I suggest that india form JV company with Swedes and make Gripen E in this company instead of spending time on MWF. If Gripen and MWF is same why spend time on duplicating efforts. Gripen is tested airframe with best sensor suite available. Salex ES 05 is very good radar, moreover Swedes will share genuinely tech with you. Consider Bofors, they gave blueprints, specs, toolings and jigs. Company like Sandvik SKF are in India for last 6 decades. I would wager on Gripen. Thanx for reading.
Can we hav detailed F21 vs F15 EX video? Btw US can put sanction on any weapon at any time. As fighter jets r critical part of airforce I doubt IAF will go for it. Logistics & Transport planes can be bought by India. Navy could go for FA 18 E/F Hornet version as it is also using Submarine Hunter planes & Helicopters.

the offer does has its flaws. But F 21 itself is very beneficial. People might say f 21 is not needed since tejas mark 2 and amca are coming up. They are not aware of the kind of delays HAL and DRDO are known for. and to be honest no jet made by india can actually come even close to any of the US jets. Their technology is far too superior. F 21 has radar and electronics which is very similar to that of f 35 and its radar cross section has been reduced by almost 10 times compared to the old f16s. So to say that its just an upgraded version of the f 16 is over simplification. THe only jets better than it are the f 35s and f 22s. But its not possible for india to get f 35 bcoz of the s 400s. So this is the best option now. Its also way cheaper than rafale so it can be purchased in bulk. This plane is a must for countering china in the himalayas. The chinese cannot compete with the west in terms of technology.
This is a aircrafts design that has sold over 5000 units all around the world . Plus very reliable engine combat proven. Plus tech of new generation warfare. Which we can learn and use in feature generation aircraft. I believe it’s an opportunity. But let see what Airforce decides. At the end they will be the one using it

F 16 is a very robust and reliable fighter. It is actually very potent. It all depends on the Air Force who can use it effectively. The Viper is not a joke. It is not overrated at all. And talking about PAF F16, those are Falcon variants. They lack CFT, AESA radar. People fearing about Feb 2019 incident, remember that it's just a equipment. It's employment depends on the quality and capability of a nation's Air Force and its pilots.
