USAF F-22 Raptor Demo Pilot: Captain Samuel "RaZZ" Larson Dyess Big Country Air Fest Dyess Air Force Base Abilene, Texas Saturday, April 22, 2023 @F22DemoTeam #F22 #F22Raptor
I was at this air show and it was nuts how once the 22 got in the air literally everyone stopped what they were doing and watched. The 22 was the last demonstration of the event and even the people leaving to beat the rush stopped and watched. All eyes were in the sky, and nobody spoke. Was cool seeing the 22 in action, 1st time seeing it for me. Got some pretty cool pictures, even one almost identical as the thumbnail of this video.
I was at this airfest event and it was the first time I’ve been to an air show since around 2016. Seeing the Raptor in person was an absolute sight to behold. Your camera work is astounding
If you’ve never seen these in person, you gotta find an airshow near you and go. The things they can do is incredible! All the aircraft there are so fun to watch!
I had a bunch fly over today. When I hear the sound I have to figure out where ahead of it they are. There are over 30 at a base 20 miles from us and they come over going to their training area. Usually there are two or three groups of three and they return within a couple of hours. We also see C-17s doing training on a drop zone about 15 miles from our house. There were two doing that today.
I had the pleasure of working on the Raptor during flight test at Edwards AFB. The thing I remember most is that the test pilots would say that the Raptor would never get out of configuration. They couldn't get it to stall. This aircraft can maneuver where other aircraft can't. So impressive.
I feel like the scariest thing is as i watched some of the demonstration my only thought was "This thing doesn't fly right". As in from all the planes ive seen preform, its like the F-22 just has its own set of rules.
Then you must have missed all the Sukhoi demo flights ever, because what those plains do in the air makes the F22 look bland, slow, and inert in comparison. They do things that genuinely look like someone turned off physics. This? Nothing remotely impressive about this demo. Any fighter jet can do all these things.
I had the opportunity to work with a gentlemen that worked on the f-22 platform in the late 90's and early 2000's. I miss him so much. He was so influential in my life. He was a real "mans man". He was a tool and die maker for Lockheed.
@@richardsmith8590 Was stopped because of expenses and because we aren't just gonna stop here... we are creating the NGAD (next generation air dominance) fighter that will surpass it in every single way. No need for it when we are getting something just straight up better.
@@dnjoy From what I've heard from people who actually know fighter aircraft, it would be generous to classify Su-57 as a true 5th generation fighter aircraft. It's likely more like a 4.5th Gen if you will. Not to mention their measly production numbers (less than a dozen have been produced).
I was there for that one! Unfortunately, we had to catch the show from the parking lot of the local bingo hall, because of the line of cars wrapped halfway around Dyess AFB. If you were there, you know what I'm talking about! It was almost as impressive as the show, itself. My girlfriend said she'd never seen me smile as much as when the F-22 came out. She was almost disappointed that I didn't smile that much at her. I'm sorry, can you fly at Mach 2, vector your own thrust, and turn on your own axis, all the while having the radar cross-section of a bumblebee? Didn't think so. ;)
LOL, I didn't even realize it was Dyess until the narrator said it at the end, I was stationed there for 3 years as C-130 aircrew back in the 80s. I could see Buffalo Gap as he was landing! 😆
7:11 Thats so impressive... any other plane would've fallen out of the sky like a stone xD I mean the F-22 stood still for a second... i want this as a module in DCS rn xD
Even as a Brit I have to admire the engineering of this aircraft. When it came out there was nothing close to it in terms of its capability. Even today it's near the top if not THE top of advanced fighter aircraft.
Yes, but it isn't good for anything. After 18 years of service, the only thing it has shot down has been a balloon. It is too expensive to fly in regular combat air patrol missions and it will never be used in large scale combat against China or Russia so it will be retired in five or six years and will never have actually done anything meaningful. Half a trillion dollars and about the only thing it does is perform at air shows. I think it dropped a bomb on some terrorists once, but an F-117 could have done that I think.
Very nice footage!! I have generally only taken photos at the airshows but have not explored video to date. I'm curious what sort of focal length lens you were using for this footage?
I’m honestly impressed by how well engineered the Raptors are. I’ve never seen any plane do the things it’s doing here. The F-22 really is the scariest thing on Earth with wings since the Cretaceous Period
I remember watching these taking off on sorties at Al Udeid when I flew in on my RNR flight. At dusk watching those burners go vertical was awesome. The biggest shame is America pulling the plug on the raptor program too early. Although the F35 has VTOL it's not quite the raptor. Beautiful plane. 🇬🇧
I’m Army but I live on Hickam AFB in Hawaii….I get the lovely pleasure of the F-22 buzzing my house daily lol. My mom came to visit and I had to warn her…come 8am you might as well get out of bed because the F-22 ain’t gonna let you sleep in 😂😂
Absolutely mind blowing what this plane is capable of. Like most here have mentioned, this plane does not fall into the others category. It is its own rule maker. To watch that thing STALL??? BACKWARDS??? All the slow maneuvers…!!!!??? Crazy
@@klephenthurry3284 bro im not expert too🤣, but u can see it clearly, the j20 look alike with the F35 with the small wing the front, while the F35 itself was downgrade type from the F22, same thing with the SU57, it literally F22 with bigger rear wing. it make sense since F22 was the first one entering 5th gen era. the other just trying to keep up with different style.
@@yanzn5926 Well as i understand it. Its only a downgrade in manuevers stealth, dogfights. Which is very rare now. Its an upgrade in every other area communication, carrier compatibility, bombing air to ground missions etc.
@@klephenthurry3284 yes its downgrade in overall RCS and RAM which is the most reason its way more cheaper than the F22 in total cost from production to maintenance.
USAF birds of prey......Falcon, Eagle, Raptor........that RAPTOR RULES THE SKY! USAF Brat 1960-1975 with the Convair F-106 Delta Dart of the 318th FIS Green Dragons of McChord AFB, Tacoma, WA and the 5th FIS Spittin' Kittens of Minot AFB, Minot , ND.
Just wait until you see an EA-18G. The raptor’s engines barely make me cover my ears, although it could be bc I heard too much 2nd world’s loudest civil defense sirens lmao. But the EA-18G was truly loud. I saw them do a flyover at about 100 feet then one turned away but another growler went right above me and shot straight up in afterburner which sure rattled the ground lmfao. In fact the ONLY time I don’t bring hearing protection to an airshow, there is a very loud jet powered fighter. Even tho there were jets at the Chicago air show, I barely needed my earplugs even tho there were F-16s and the legacy F-18 hornet. Saw a bunch of F-22s and I mean…they’re by no means quiet but prb the EA-18 seems so loud bc it produces a higher pitched crackle and not as much of a bassy roar like the F-22 does
the F-22 is a man made Barn Swallow if you have the pleasure of watching them as I do, I have lots of birds and none can match their flying skills and maneuverability
@@WingoverUHD that’s what’s up man! And I appreciate you watching them not as good as yours lol. Yeah it was great meeting you too! Hopefully I’ll see you again at another show! Suppose to be going to corpus airshow next weekend if all works out.
Seems like a thrust to weight similar to an F-16, departure resistance of Su-27 and instantaneous turn of F/A-18. I think the jet could have been pushed harder though. It was a good display but nothing other planes haven’t done before.
Thrust to weight on the F-22 is actually slightly better than an F-16 at loaded weight and 50% fuel, even with the F-22's massive internal tanks. As for the restrained maneuvering, both the F-22 and F-35 are heavily restricted in terms of what they're allowed to show the public. What we do know is that it has such an unholy amount of thrust that it can accelerate during a 9G turn, something only an extremely low fuel, clean configuration F-16 or Typhoon can match.
i remember when i was a fighter pilot. MY craft was the F15 Eagle. The best jet in history. I was a Major General with the Marines but i became a pilot when i was just a chief petty officer in the USMS United States Marine Service for those that dont know. i dropped bombs in Baghdad. Also tyhe President would call me and tell me he has a top secret mission for me so i would do top secret missions. I was even allowed to fly to work in the F15 so i saved money on car insurance.
During these shows the Raptor doesn’t show what it’s capable of doing. It can stop in mid air and turn completely around in its own length. Plus an adversary never gets within 50 miles of it before being shot down. They can’t see it, so it hunts them down with stealth.
There are no invisible planes. There are stealth aircraft. For the Raptor, the question is whether it will have time to get close enough to the enemy to launch missiles before it is identified.
The Raptor jumped from #4 to #3 in my most favorite fighter planes of all time. Sorry Viper, Lol Numero uno is still the Tomcat followed by the Eagle. If only the F22 has better combat resume like the F15 then it will be my undisputed GOAT. Nevertheless, this is such a awesome badass, most copied plane. 😂
Personally I think from a natural capability he F22 is so much cooler than the F35 with it's maneuverability and air to air capabilities. The F35 is still a good jet but while it's (obviously) newer and considered a 5th-Gen, it does have more advances tech. Each has its own pros and cons but if I had the choice I'd take an F22
The f-22 is more romantic in a sense. A plane meant to dominate in dog fights and with amazing maneuvering. Don’t get me wrong it could probably destroy most things without they even realizing it was there.
