Startup is at 0:04 but i would have loved to hear the turbines spool up after the APU was finished
@Dinnye01

I am pretty sure that the F-22 line uses a JFS system (not to be confused with the APU).
@broadbin
@broadbin 3 года назад
@@Dinnye01 Would you nee kind enough to explain what jfs is?
@Dinnye01
@Dinnye01 3 года назад
@@broadbin You can imagine the JFS as a small turbine engine that is started by a carteidge (something analogous to a CO2 cartridge) - note, that this is a WILD oversimplification. It has a few charges, then needs to recharge, but it is lighter than an APU. It also only can be used to start the engine. The APU in turn is a small jet engine that is started by a battery and can provide electric power to the aircraft as long as there is fuel.

@TactileCoder
@TactileCoder 7 лет назад
That is the built-in APU starting up. The APU is like a small jet engine generator that provides temporary power and air pressure to spool up the main engines.
@macieksoft
@macieksoft 7 лет назад
Isn't it JFS like in F-16 and F-15?
@trespire
@trespire 7 лет назад
F16 have a small emergency jet that runs on hydrazine fuel (extremely toxic) used as a last resort for inflight emergencies.
@fsi1212
@fsi1212 7 лет назад
trespire but it also has a JFS as mentioned
@macieksoft
@macieksoft 7 лет назад
JFS in F-16 is used to start engine. The "small emergency jet" is actually EPU (not to confuse with APU, F-16 has no APU). EPU provides electrical power in emergencies. It can run on hydrazine, but it can also run on bleed air from engine.

Nice but I can not believe the ? clothes the Plane Captains were wearing. We wore uniforms in the USMC. I was a jet mech and Plane Captain for a while and also flew back seat RIO in F4s on B&R and CAS training missions in Beaufort SC in 1968 (USMC Back Seat Pilot Program was for a very few - best of the best enlisted men - who were trained to work on jets). In Vietnam (1968-69 I was in Counterinsurgency and never worked on another plane again except for only 2 weeks in El Toro CA. when I came back from VN).
@ramairgto72
@ramairgto72 7 лет назад
I would imagine the overall heath of the Airmen was considered. They look to be in AF PTs on a runway in the sun. Making people suffer in a multiple layer uniform seems counterproductive. I served in the ARMY as a SAPPER, so i'm talking form experience.
@markgray7175
@markgray7175 7 лет назад
Good point but I seem to remember in the old days, videos, that there were uniforms etc... ALso, decades ago we subbed out a lot of jobs to civilians. I talked to a Marine in SD CA who said they subbed out Jet Mech work. Look at our USMC aircraft now, only 2 planes up in Beaufort SC in a whole Sqdn (most likely more about money than talent)...

Nothing against the Raptor or its startup sounds, but anyone who has worked ground crew who has launched ANY mother fuckin jet aircraft in the Naval or Air Force fleet has heard something similar to that. ...Don't get me wrong!!!....I fuckin LOVE that sound!!....I was ground crew on U.S. Naval Aircraft for 4 years, so believe me, I LOVE THAT SOUND!!!!......The only problem I have with this video is.....It doesn't sound much different than an F-14, or an F-15 or an F-16 or an A-4 or an A-6 or an A-10 blaa blaa blaa................My point is...MANY of these aircraft sound PRETTY similar, but those who have worked on them can sometimes tell the difference. In my humble opinion, the startup sound of the F-22 is NOT that amazing compared to any front line fighter aircraft start up. ......I'm not cutting on the F-22 AT ALL.......Just saying...the SOUND of the fuckin aircraft on startup is NOT that fuckin amazing compared to our other front line fighters!!!!.......That's all.

Nigel Milne the only way your flying dorito was able to do that was by flying hard on the deck at high speed, and as soon as aircraft were fitted with look down shoot down targeting systems a la F15, this ceased to be a viable tactic, let alone the increased stress on the airframe and reduction in service life that this method of flying entailed. Yes, the Vulcan was a vaunted machine back in the day when nuclear weapons were intended to be air delivered, but for me modern aircraft are more impressive. If this is not the case for you, it is entirely subjective.

F22 is pretty badass if the computer doesn't fuck up. F35 is a mistake. The concept of multipurpose military planes is flawed. If you want an air superiority fighter, you need to make an air superiority fighter. If you want a light bomber, you make one. If you want air support for ground troops, you make a plane for that. You don't try to put all those in to one, or you get one plane that does all of those things half assed. Also I'm hearing that stealth on fighters is bullshit and a waste of time and money. Anyway I guess once we get the whole drones and anti-aircraft laser weapons thing down a little better putting guys in fancy fighter planes will be almost obsolete.

I know the military has thought of everything, but I always thought it funny in life when there is a very complex thing that contains a really stupid and simple design flaw. I always thought, "how can people make something so complex and awesome and do something so stupid?" Seeing these very expensive jets all parked in a row, I wonder if there was conscious thought and calculation in letting them all sit there, vulnerable to one event that could destroy all of them and they calculated that the cost/benefit/risk was just fine for them to all be parked next to each other, or if they never considered that and it was just a convenient and cool looking way to park them in a row. My father told me that when he marched in the army that they made them train to march a certain distance apart so that 1 grenade or land-mine wouldn't kill the lot of them.

This program shouldn't have been cancelled. Seriously. In favor of the F-35 Moneyburner?

Anyone else wish they could at the very least taxi that girl around the runway. Just the feeling of sitting in a multi million dollar death machine that soars through the air unnoticed faster than you can take a squirrel shit. Mmmmmmm balls

It howls a bit at low power. Not as good as an F-104 or F-4 with J-79 power. But nothing sounds as good as a J-79 anyway.

I've been to Panama City, Fl a lot and every time I see an F22 fly over and goes into a turn, it sounds like one of the rudders is going to vibrate off , an awful sound it will make!

I appreciate designs of interceptors. Russians have their lean high flyers and we have fat fuel laden dragsters. Which by their tactics always lure the Russians down to lower altitudes where a fat fuel laden sled can turn and dog fight. how does it do this. Is does this because it is the aggressor. And the aggressor determines the contest

So all the glitches with the suits are fixed now? I heard there was some rebellion between pilots who refused to fly because the life support system made them faint during flight.

In a warlike situation, they need to land in dangerous airfield. They should practice the same in home environment. The airfield and sky are fit for civil aviation and too refined for war plane

If you can see your opponent stealth is BS...specially when radar and detection technology advances faster than stealth does.

The volume of smoke accompanied by the small flame makes it looks like a Coffman-type starter which is really a shotgun cartridge discharging a lot of gas from a breech into a small turbine or piston coupled to a starting dog to spin up the engine very rapidly prior to ignition. Very common from the 1930s onwards with piston and jet aircraft, Chipmunk and Hunter to name two. I have flow in both the Chipmunk and the Sea Venom which were started in this way. It meant that the aircraft didn't need outside assistance like, for example, either a battery truck or compressed air or the the normal external gas-producing APU. The shotgun cartridges were in a pack in the aircraft so you could re-start a number of times without external assistance. Useful if landing at a strange or unstaffed airfield. You wouldn't want Johnny Foreigner to capture your $300 Million Raptor just by asking you to hand over the keys. NB I may have a point here! The uninitiated might expect a bang from an aircraft cartridge starter upon firing but it was just a whoosh and a lot of black cordite smoke as per this vid. Having said all of that I may be talking complete bollocks. Raptor jockey or engineer - please tell us if you are allowed. It is hard to imagine the Coffman system still in use. Hope I haven't bored you all.
