I play this exclusively on Afghanistan in air sb and do pretty well with it. The radar is actually fantastic and when paired with the western RWR, it’s more competent than something like the Mig29G or SMT imo. That’s something I vehemently disagree with in this video- I think it currently has the best radar in the game. People really need to switch to the rectangular radar screen to get the full benefit of its quick scans and TWS angles. Sure, if you merge with someone and can’t disengage you’re going to have a bad time but again, stick to the mountains and that’s not too difficult.
Having played more extensively at 12.3 via the F-15, I think the issue is player mentality than the plane being lousy. A lot of the flaws of the plane can be mitigated through map knowledge, good target selection, and using hit and run slashes rather than staying in furballs. In the words of War Thunder’s greatest menace, “missiles don’t go through mountains”.
the only proplem this plane has is BR compression. its a fun plane to fly if you get downtiered or same tiered without any higher br planes in the match. but hey at least its not as bad of a suffer craft like the new tornado
From the future after some of the compression changes, but my issue when looking at it is that if you look at the pound for pound against other planes it is worse in every metric. If you took myself in an f16c vs my self in the f4f ICE the f16c version will win every single time, and while there is a separation of the br doesn’t matter at the moment
Honestly, it’s stuck in a br compression dilemma If it goes up, it will be the same br as the maneuverable 13.0s with Fox 3s and suffer But it already gets uptiered there If it goes down to 12.3, it’ll get downtiered to 11.3 and eat everything up So it’s unfair either way
Yeah, honestly. I've been playing the F-15J a lot lately (both to grind the (M) and because it's isanely fun right now), and I'm sure the enemy team absolutely despises me, raining 7Ms and AAM-3s on them from above. F-14s deserve it, I have no sympathy for them, but the rest of them I kinda feel bad for how unfair it must feel for them. However, whenever there's an AV-8B+ on the enemy team, they are always the ones to shut me down. Now, if I absolutely hate something in one of the most powerful aircraft at that br, imagine what those poor 11.3s feel. Or just try to grind the french tt in the Mirage F1C-200, I ate an amraam without getting a single rwr ping one time.
Personally I think the ICE is incredibly underrated b/c if you compare it to 13.0 planes it seems really weak but if you compare it to other 12.7s the only thing that might be better than it is the Gripen A. If Gaijin would increase the max br to 13.3 or 13.7 it would be in a much better spot but for now its not that bad
I feel the ICE gets too much hate. I currently only have AIM-9/I s and I get at least 2-3 kills per game. I have fought F15s F16s and even a mig29 and won only using guns and turn time. It's really just about knowing the plane and how it's energy holds.
With the greatest respect. Your opponents in the F15, F16 and Mig29 were completely braindead then. If they remeber: "hold elevator up" the will completely dumpster this garbage fire of a plane
I was looking forward to this aircraft because I have had a good time with the EJ Kai, but it’s been a struggle and I have actually done better with the AV-8B in uptiers. The stock grind was not too bad once the bombs are unlocked.
The ICE is a hit or miss to me, i will say it depends on your teammates. You get people who can take the enemies attention and doesn't quickly die? You're set for the whole match, the AIM-9L/is' are great if you get in close and not turning too much. AIM-120As are a blast, i recommend using them in medium distance on high altitude targets In a great game I could get 3 kills minimum
The best way to play this is to side climb, launch your AIM-120s, notch, and land, then repeat. It's more of a support aircraft with AIM-120s, and I usually get about three kills this way.
Hot take: the ice is actually good. The reason why is it has a bad but still usable airframe and it has great missiles and a good gun tbh your just a missile truck but that doesn’t really matter if your used to other f4’s it will be a piece of cake to use
Yeah, the problem is that the ICE cant do anything that its competitors do except for strapping on and launching AMRAAMS. As soon as you are out of Amraams, you are useless. Yet, despite the thing being completely inferior in every way to other jets. it is still almost at the highest possible BR.
