When trying to land the A-10 on a carrier, don't forget to utilize the aircraft's reverse feature to shorten the breaking distance. (Fire the cannon.)

F-5 landing gear from the beginning was designed to handle rough field take offs. While not fully optimal for carrier landing sink rates, it's definitely not completely out of the question either. I'd be more worried about the tailhook being ripped off in real life than the landing gear not being able to handle a carrier landing, since the tailhook is for airfield emergency use with much less abrupt arrestment. Of course doing any of this with decent load of anything (stores or fuel) would be suicide.

F5 has no launch bar and tail hook is not rated for 4g landings. It was absolutely never intended to be carrier born. Cannot launch from a US carrier, cannot be arrested by a US carrier. The USN purchased them solely for adversarial roles.

Cap has a military mind. We see and hear lots of people that cant articulate themselves and think things through in order logically, like how a process is carried out so we can analyze and work on it take what we need and potentially adapt and improve on it.

Is that even necessary with that ramp takeoff? You need it for increased AoA on a flat runway but this thing tosses you right up in the air. It might be even counterproductive, slowing you down on the run-up.

If the carrier is moving 25 or 30 knots it will help with a full load.

The f-5 design was submitted to the US Navy for a light fighter to operate from escort carriers. So it had naval heritage.

I've seen pictures of the F-5 with the word NAVY on them, so they must have had a few. Possibly they are strictly used as adversaries.

The Navy _did_ want the F-5 able to operate off of light escort carriers. The escort carrier concept never made it to the battlefield, though.

CAP, watch that AoA in doctor to the left of your HUD. If it's a yellow up arrow, increase angle of attack. Add power and raise the nose. Hold it with that green circle. That gets your hook at the best possible angle for that hook to trap.

I would think that AoA indexer is calibrated for field landings since the F-5 was never intended to land on a carrier. The sink rate and AoA for landing on a runway is not the same as a carrier. If I had to guess, I would say he would need the down arrow indicating his nose was too high and he is falling out of the sky, which is basically how F-18s fall onto the deck.

I feel like you should be doing at leat 50 knots slower. 200 is WAY too fast, even for the F5. From what I can see the F5 is supposed to land at around 170. Why that dude thought 200-220 is beyond me.

I just learned the F-5E and I found that a 150 landing speed is just perfect. The F-5 can actually float pretty well

One of the reasons that take off worked so well is that you didn't crank back on the stick like the others did. You just let the airplane accelerate instead of making it fight all that extra induced drag created by their extra AOA. Well done. Because of this, and especially because of the ramp, it might actually be better not to extend the nose gear. Thoughts?

I have a feeling you need to wait a second or two more for max thrust to develop before you release the brakes, first 3 were too quick away - the afterburner takes longer to develop to max thrust than you would assume. No harm in waiting a couple of seconds as long as your brakes hold OK

I saw your friend trying to bleed speed by popping up and down, I learned early on that side slip is the best way to kill speed and altitude. To side slip, roll about 45° sideways and then rudder against the turn and elevator down to counteract the banking turn, it forces your plane through the air at an awful angle and you'll have the trajectory of a parachute bomb lmao I drop in on runways high and fast with that technique all the time 'cause I'm too lazy to line up and slow down properly.

RIP A-10. Oh Tail's pilot jutting out from the edge of the deck was gold! As for the other pilots sinking in... just, why? I thought it was standard procedure to always, ALWAYS go full throttle before the launch? Heck, if those guys played IL-2's Pacific Fighters, they'd know how fatal it is to take off without going full throttle initially.

I think the main thing that helped Cap get off the deck was not only were there no weapons, but he had very little fuel. You can see him change it to 15% total fuel.

Crimson_Ghost we have made a naval mission earlier and then I took off with fueltank and aim9s but thats where the limit goes. Much more will be a nice drink :D

Does anyone ever zoom in the field of view. ?? I find the actual starting head distance to the cockpits seems to far back but that could be because it’s rendering an image and not the real thing. Su 33 27 mig 29s I do the left altC and scroll the mouse up 3 to 2 forward mouse rolls and it takes a bit of the field of view away but seems to me like it is more realistic. F5 I do 2-3 rolls forward. Su25s f14 f18 a10 are usually one roll forward on the mouse. Ka 50 is 3 and Huey mi8 gazelle are 2 rolls forward. Idk but it feel more immersive that way to me.

It does but its designed for emergency landings on airfields not carrier landings and once its down its down till the crew chief restores it or in DCS repair aircraft. Although in DCS it allows us to trap the carriers wire IRL the F5E's undercarriage is not designed to land on a carrier - if you see the pictures of F5Es on carriers they are mostly pictures of deliveries to Vietnam.

Most military jets do. Even the Tornado and Eurofighter have tailhooks, and neither of them are are capable of carrier operations. They're for airfield arrestor wires, in case their brakes fail.

AAAAAHHHH!!! First attempt by both jets- Totally gooned up. Yes, Tail got on but was way to fast and should've been waved off. Second attempt. Cap was hi at the start settled in the middle and was low at the end. Would've got a no grade pass if his hooked didn't bounce. Third was low and fast for both but its clear Tail has been practicing:) The other thing is that Cap is flirting with an in-flight engagement which will scare the sh*t out of you! And why are you guys doing left hand orbit on the Boat?!? I said it before... AAAAHHHH!!!! :)
