This was a real treat! I used to live in San Diego and remember watching a lot of fighter jets land at North Island from Coronado Beach (my dog’s favorite beach btw). This is the first time I’ve seen a cockpit view, and a touch and go to boot!
Boy that brought back memories. Stationed at NAS North Island in the late ‘60’s when the test line for F4 and F8 was off to the left of the runway. No hangers all out in the open. Worked out of building 865 ( no longer there) filling the F4’s and F8’s with liquid oxygen. Also, was an aircrew man with backseat time in the Phantom II. The break over the field and coming around to land was done many times during my time there. Thanks for the footage.
I had the opportunity to fly the F18 simulator at San Diego one day, it was great. On my first takeoff with the gear still down, I rolled the airplane at 500 ft. 👍
Consider the joy most of us having watching this; then think about the feeling of the guy riding it! :) Having a private F-18 and a beach house like those on close to where it's parked at would be my high-end materialistic dream.
I was a Sensor Operator in the A model at NASNI. So much fun, and it provided me, as a non-pilot, to fly the airplane a bit. Birds have no idea how lucky they are.
Awesome footage like always, you really spoil us with these frequent uploads, Jell-O. Unpopular opinion, but I love two seater navy jets, I really wish we had a two seat Hornet in DCS.
show this DCS's Matt Wagner, maybe he recognizes the fun of a double seater hornet and maybe we finally start getting such familiar beautiful sceneries like San Diego. Hawaii would be nice too, any takes from kane ohe ? thanks for this wonderful ride.
Amazing clarity at 1080 60fps clip. How I wish, I could be in the cockpit. Oh well, I’m just happy to be a legal immigrant of this great country. If I were born here, I would’ve done my best to be in the service and be like you guys. Flying my powered paraglider and working as an infrared specialist flight crew fighting wildfires for the gov will suffice for my age and experience at this time. Besides, the glamour of you guys profession, I sincerely thank you for your service to the greatest country in the world.
Jello. Thanks so much for your great videos. Short question. You've no doubt made a few hundred landings. Do you ever switch off the power nowadays and think "Phew, I made it"?
Vincent, Did you shoot all these videos with the FPP in mind, or is it just a series of fortunate circumstance's? I do really enjoy them, and it makes it easier to sell the FPP to others.
2:29 I see a Blue Angel! Also, I noticed on final that there wasn't a field "carrier" painted on the runway, however I think I see the "Ball" on the left side of the runway, is this just to get used to seeing that equipment?
saarcful you wound typically fly around 350kts in normal cruise, 450kts in combat cruise, and final approach speed is around 140-160kts depending on fuel and stores weight.
I worked at El Toro MCAS after it was de activated by slick Willy. If I recall correctly there were carrier layouts on the ground for practicing ship landings. I don’t know for sure.
The Fighter Pilot Podcast ,Rudders toe in is in all envelope of flight or just with landing gear down?ALSO rudder toe out is with pushing the stick? How many degrees?
Playing that golf course is always fun watching them land/takeoff. Not 100% what hole but I could feel the heat from the AB when they took off. Always thought what would happen if I drove the golf cart onto the runway.
Hornet Vids There is a negative stigma to the technique in some circles. I prefer lo-n-goes. Easier on the airplane and gives me all the approach practice I want.
My dream right there. I have dreamed my whole life of being able to fly fighter jets. F-18 super hornets, F-16 , and my all time favorite the beautiful F-15 Eagle. I'd take any opportunity any challenge to handle anything a jet couple put me through. My dream is to fly at 80k feet, curvature of the earth below me soace above me and listen to pink Floyd - learning to fly. I could die happy then. I'd give anything to fly. But unfortunate as never had the opportunity to have the education needed as moved around to much growing up barely got out of high-school with diploma. Not smart enough for college lol. Kudos to all doing this. My next life will be different. Maybe coke back in mear future so can space travel as pilot
@@ColbyLee2004 It used to be a USAF thing with the F-4C/D/E and F-111A/D/F while US Navy F-4B/J/Ns and F-14s had RIOs. Once they went to the Super Hornet with the F model, they adopted the basic crew designations of the F-15E Strike Eagle with Pilot and WSO. The WSO station in the F models varies, but the more modern ones have dual joysticks for sensors and weapons manipulation like a Strike Eagle does. The F/A-18Bs and early F/A-18Fs are/were primarily used as conversion trainers to the best of my knowledge.
