Watch from inside the cockpit as F-35 Demo pilot Capt. Andrew "Dojo" Olson performs the new demonstration over Miami Beach during the Hyundai Air & Sea Show May 26, 2019.
Growing out of wanting to be a fighter pilot, or worse, never wanting to be one in the first place, are serious signs of insanity and reasons to be committed to the asylum.
The pedal turn is absolutely amazing, like something out of a sci-fi fighter movie. The jet literally pirouettes in place and picks and chooses its targets anywhere in the battle space. Power and grace in one move!
It was a lifelong dream for me.I was the best in school, studied everything I could get my hands on about planes; ACM tactics,weapons,procedures...hell I even had a US manual of an F-16.But at 17 myopia struck and the dream was gone for good.I am 20 now and still haven't gotten over it, knowing that I will never experience this job .My deepest respect to all fighter pilots from any country .From a would-be H.A.F. pilot
I'm not affiliated with the Military but I have dug into the process a lot online. This isn't for the Air Force, but in the navy academy if you have good marks and you get into the fighter program, I heard they will pay for LASIK. Now, if you get LASIK yourself then it's an instant disqualification, BUT if you get LASIK from them you are in. Which is strange since it is the same operation but I digress, also you only need to have 20/20 for training. Many Fighter Pilots wear glasses or corrective lenses once they get into their 40's. Don't give up, Bill, it's not like the 1970's anymore. Also you should also hear what CW Lemoine has to say about "making them tell you no," here is a link to his vid about it, please, watch it; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uUJcqkUde9w.html
@Jake Heke Of course nobody is perfect, but you cannot use your "imperfection" as an excuse and justify killing people. This has nothing to do with perfection, it has everything to do with the truth. Being a fighter pilot you risk killing people (whether you like it or not). I'm not okay with taking that risk because i live by my own principles. Others might be okay with that and that's just fine by me. But, if you join the military you risk killing people when it comes down to it...that's just the truth.
Being 38, nothing on YT, maybe even the whole internet, has made me feel like i'm a sugar-addled 10 year old on Saturday morning again, the way these dashcam/ride along flight videos have. Massive salute to all pilots. I'm sufficiently floored on every video, what these men and women do.
They technically didn’t need moving sticks at all. A while back when the F-16 was getting FBW the stick didn’t move it just responded to the force applied, but pilots didn’t like that so sticks still have a little bit of freedom to move despite the fact they don’t need to at all.
@coaldoubt You need to learn the difference between equality of opportunity and equality of outcome. The majority of those homeless people are homeless because of decisions they made.
@@combativeThinker Thanks for your token, overused, and erroneous response Bryan. People aren't homeless because they failed. They are homeless because everyone else failed.
@@coaldoubt2879 Get a job and buy a house? The economy is BOOMING. I see homeless people standing next to "now hiring" signs begging for money. That's on them, NOBODY else.
I’ve been flying the F35 for about a year now and it really is easy when you get the hang of it. My mum brings me tea and toast in when times get difficult.
@Antee Matter Don't give into self-fulfilling prophecies. Get up, bite the bullet, and do the things that you don't want to do every day until you die. Suffering is purpose. Discipline is freedom.
@Antee Matter this is the advice of someone who’s dad was in the Army for 15 years. He said, “the military is a life changing experience and often for the better.” And it is just a person opinion but if you are still young enough to do so, join one of the branches.
That has got to be the best feeling... Being able to go anywhere in the sky, even over cities in a blink of an eye. Then blast up in to the clouds in an instant. Such freedom. If only we could invent some sort of bubble cockpit that has it's own gravity. Then we could see what the jet can actually do.
I'm sure you think you can, but thinking and doing are two very different things. Last time I checked, a city-bus can't go Mach 2 or pull 9 G turns, and a city-bus doesn't have to worry about getting blown the fuck up. I know you probably think you're hard, as most people do, but you're really not.
@@MFKR696 last time I checked you probably weren't either, that's the specs of the machine, you would have to transfer the mechanics, but otherwise they require somewhat similar skills, just different training.
Such skill, precision, timing, and the ability to look very cool doing it! This pilot is Amazing! What a life to be up in the clouds flying at mach speeds. Thanks!
The music paired with this video truly makes one envision how free it must feel to be in the seat of that cockpit. The F-22, the F-35...both incredible in design and power. Being able to look down over the ocean and see your silhouette? I would probably never get over the feeling that would bring.
The "pedal turn" as they call it, looks crazy from the ground. I wish some airspeeds and data was shown. I often wondered what the slow speed pass was and various of phases. Seeing the F35 rip in person will change your mind about this strangely negative press it had gotten for so long. This thing is a serious machine.
The entire demo team profile is online, complete with 3D graphics, altitude, airspeed, throttle settings, bank angles, limits, abort criteria, and emergency procedures.
The "strangely negative press" this jet has received has very much been incepted by Russian propaganda. Then shitty internet "news websites" like Forbes take the bait and in turn create clickbait titles that ultimately besmirches the F35's public perception. The Woozle Effect in essence.
@@asmodeus1274 Google global truth project and read "the Present" to see the truth about life/death. Nothing is more important than checking it is true, especially pgs 1-4
I remember doing my work experience at Rolls Royce 20 years ago when the joint strike fighter project was being developed, I remember looking at a large piece of engine casing wondering what it would be fitted into , this is awesome to see both Pratt and Whitney and Rolls Royce both getting involved with the F35!
So amazing. I was lucky and grew up on Miramar. 77 - 89. Mostly 14s then but still enjoy our military aircraft. Thank you for your service and thank you for the demonstration.
Wow. This video makes me shiver all over. From the amazing scenery, talented pilot, awesome music, and the masterpiece of an aircraft, what an amazing video!!!!
@@pdu999 The shockwave we see just means the air was supersonic, not necessarily the airplane itself. You can have the shockwave and never break the sound barrier.
@@kamuelalee F-35 has a specially engineered helmet with a display that allows the pilot to see right through the jet, using cameras on the outside of the aircraft.
Kyle K 13 seconds ago (edited) That's only because the F22/F35 Demo teams turn the engines towards the crowd on every demonstration they do. Blue Angels only do this once, and it's only on the 4 plane roll where they roll all 4 planes engines towards the crowd and go full afterburner.
Their is soooo much force on those wings when you do maneuvers.....you can see the air on the wings. I don't know how those things don't rip right off. Amazing.
Great video! Great songs to go along with it as well. Freedom is never free, despite what many think. Much respect for our men and women in service. Thank you for you service, sacrifice and commitment to our country!
I always wanted to be a fighter pilot, but then I got sick with a chronic gut issue during my senior year of highschool. No way I could lie my way through it and get in either. I’ve never stopped feeling like I had my dream stolen from me. If you’re reading this and you have the chance to grab yours, don’t let it go.
I have watched all of the best F-35 videos many times each, so I thought I’d best leave a comment about my favourite jet fighter ever : the F-35A Lightning II and it’s glorious sounding P&W F135 engine. Edit : Epic shots of the wind buffeting causing the cockpit to shudder.
@@camarojeff9786 I was thinking that it must be a run-down sheet listing the order of manoeuvres he’s performing. Kinda like a set-list bands use when performing live.
Go stay near Beaufort SC, you'll see plenty of F35's and F22's coming and going daily. They are going to do missions of course, not an air show. The sad thing is that civilians in Beaufort are whining about the jet noise, even though they knew there was an air station there. People can be so entitled, man.
@@boingobadger9846 Yep, it happens, hah. I prefer air craft over constant sirens if I'm honest. I used to learn near a major hospital in upstate New York. I still hear sirens in my head, I don't think it'll ever stop, lol.
@@PiousSlayer I’m not sure why people complain about hearing jets and helicopters fly over. I can only understand mothers with young babies, but come on. You get to see and hear machines worth millions of dollars.
@@boingobadger9846 Yea I hear lots of fighter jets especially the F/A-18 Hornet flying missions around the base when I'm working in the area traveling through town.
WOOOW I was there for the show and have footage of this plane, what an amazing sight. It was so close you could smell the jet fuel exhaust AMAZING!!!! USA F-35
Very little stick movement to make this aircraft maneuver. Impressive. I've seen the practice demos at Luke. Sounds like no other single engine fighter.
With about 3000 psi to the flight controls....you fly these birds very lightly....you can actually use three fingers of your hand. They are soooooo badass!
During the highspeed pass at 1:26, just before pulling up into the vertical, the pilot applies further throttle and selects full afterburner. I'm impressed that the pilot had to have the throttles pulled back that much to avoid mach-1 before the climb-out.
I remember an interview with an F-35 pilot saying that keeping under Mach 1 was a challenge because of how easy it was to exceed with a momentary distraction.
@@corystansbury Actually as per the latest word going around, the F-35 can out accelerate the F-22 till Mach 1 (but the Raptor has limitless pulling power beyond).
kamuelalee something about that plane kills me. It’s quiet compared to the Raptor and can’t do a proper vertical. It’s also looks like they just copied the F-22 Raptor design and called it better.
Best thing to do actually would be to go to college and do AFROTC like what I am doing... you have to be an officer to fly in the AF. Hope to commission as a pilot and fly one of these things.
That's the second best thing to do Austin. The best thing to do is go to the Air Force Academy right after high-school. Most pilot slots go to them! 🇺🇲 Go USAF
