This is my 7th time doing this total from the bottom, second time for this car. Reason I believe the bottom is better because of you being able to reinstall the engine with basically everything connected.
"Special" tool list
-Cherry picker
-Torx socket
-Fuel line disconnect tool
-Furniture dollies
-Hardcore ratchet strap
-Maybe spare wheels or your front wheels
-Possibly tall jack standsdrfdf
Safely jack and support the car. This is just a guide so don't blame me for anything you do.
1. Battery
2. Radiator Intake/Elbow/Condenser line
3. Remove PCM and unplug harness from inside
4. Route the harness on top of the manifold.
5. Disconnect engine to frame grounds.
6. Remove AC line that leads to the compressor
7. Unbolt power steering reservoir and route it out of the way to drop
8. Disconnect LF and RF brake lines on the ABS block
9. Unbolt the steering shaft and disconnect
10. Remove fuel lines/vacuum fitting
11. Remove throttle cable/cruise
12. Unbolt the sway bar from the frame (leave connected to tie rod ends)
13. Disconnect speed sensors in the wheel well
14. Remove Driveshaft
15. Remove front part of torque arm
16. Remove exhaust/y-pipe or whatever you have.
17. (A4) Remove shift cable (M6) Disconnect slave cylinder/shifter
18. Unbolt Transmission crossmember (support if necessary)
19. Place furniture dolly(s) underneath the engine/trans
20. Lower jack stands and remove 6 engine K member bolts
21. Unbolt top 4 strut tower bolts/nuts
22. Choose how you want to lift the car (around intake holes or radiator support)
23. Slowly lift the car and watch for parts still conncected and parts that get caught such as the brake lines, power steering and possibly something you forgot to do.
24. If necessary support the car once its lifted enough to slide the engine out. Get the engine lift out of the way and pull the engine out.
Be careful and have fun.
I know I'm breathing hard I'm fat lol.

No thank you for taking the time to make this video, this is really gonna help me a lot, I need to do this for my 96Z 28SS, just to do my long tube headers install and spark plugs and wires because they’re routed on the bottom of the engine, I think this will be the easiest way for me, and I hope to be able to buy a tubular key member at the same time, I’m 6 foot six 400 pounds and my hands are just way too big to work on this car with the engine in place, I love this car but I hate having to work on the engine when there’s no room, thank you so much, this will make it so much easier

Hey brother, I'm doing this project in Denton today, any chance we could exchange numbers in case I have emergency questions? I'm following you step by step and so far so good. I'm dropping the lt1 out of a 97 trans am, So I can rebuild the engine. I'm savvy on rebuilding just been more of a tuner guy and a bottom removal is all new to me.

I believe the a/c compressor can be unbolted from the engine so you don't have to disconnect any a/c lines. Thoughts?

Correct, you can leave the ac compressor with the car

Just one question where do you connect the strap for the engine lift? I'm going out this way as well and having a hell of a time figuring out where to strap the cherry picker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@Cerridius
@Cerridius 8 лет назад
Looped through the intake hole and through the battery hole. It's the frame of the car
@anthonypiraino728
@anthonypiraino728 8 лет назад
Doesn't it make it sound like the car is bending? I attempted today and didn't feel safe with how it was sounding.
@Cerridius
@Cerridius 8 лет назад
+Anthony Piraino in my follow up video I show how I did it. Most people just straight up use the radiator support which I wouldn't do since I've seen one bend
@anthonypiraino728
@anthonypiraino728 8 лет назад
+Cerridius what about the computer under the intake hole I have a 95 formula both that and my old trans am. that has to come off as well doesn't it?
@Cerridius
@Cerridius 8 лет назад
+Anthony Piraino that's for the abs brakes I think. It comes off pretty easy, you should be able to just unbolt a few things and move it out of the way
@richard16372
@richard16372 10 лет назад
Very nice video, do you have to drain the transmission doing it this way?
@Cerridius
@Cerridius 10 лет назад
Richard Miller No you don't have to, but im sure some will be lost through the tailshaft and the trans cooler lines.
@richard16372
@richard16372 10 лет назад
can I disconnect the auto trans from the engine with out taking the bolts that hold converter to flex plate as my crank is broken and I am not sure it will spin to get at the bolts inside bellhousing on the transmission once the engine and trans are removed like you did.
@Cerridius
@Cerridius 9 лет назад
Richard Miller Well, yes you can leave your converter connected to your flexplate and pull the trans out from that, but you will likely lose fluid from that and it will be harder to install the trans to the converter, rather than the converter to the trans with it out.

Nope. You have to remove the hood, radiator, a/c condenser and a boatload of other stuff. This way is much easier than taking it out the top. There's about a foot of engine back under the windshield.
