It’s not just me, the Centigraphe doesn’t work properly right? The hundredth of a second chrono hand clearly doesn’t move smoothly. You can see it jerking. Zenith figured this out so I don’t understand why FP can’t.
Part of it's the frame rate of the video, which is lower than the beat rate of the chronograph escapement. Part of it is that Zenith's solution is a clumsy dual-movement setup in a grossly oversized watch while Journe achieves the effect with a single power supply and split drivetrain in one compact case. Journe's arrangement leaves some relics of the 3Hz escapement visible in the operation of the foudroyante hand, which appears to slow approximately once every 60 degrees of travel. The Zenith is two completely independent movements in an Hublot-sized case, and each half of a Defy El Primero 21 can operate without any power to the other. Best, Tim
no it's not frame rate, you can watch various slowed down videos of them, they are quite jumpy because of how Journe designed the movement to slip between positions.
Fantastic show and amazing pieces for the fortunate few. The aerospace grade aluminum used by Journe is anti-allergenic and quite scratch resistant when anodized but it's not that hard to machine. I worked in aerospace and even 30 years ago specialized cutting tools and coolants were widely available. Imagine what can be achieved now with additive mfg. ( 3D printing).
It's something we've wanted to do for a while. There was a time when we had quite a few of them, but recent years have seen the interest rise to the point that we had to plan and accumulate for a few weeks before we could get five of these on one screen. Even then, we weren't able to source the Indy 500 for this feature. Best, Tim
That 1998 Bulgari was a quartz watch and only aluminum on the outside. Making an actual mechanical caliber out of it is where Journe took the lead. Best, Tim
@@andresfg6788 Machining aluminum to tolerance for a mechanical movement is a bit more complicated. The movement in the Bulgari was exactly the same as the steel and gold models. Best, Tim
ngl i used to think fpjourne watches are too art deco (not sure if that's the correct style description) for my tastes are the current gen 44mm titanium octa linesports on "wait lists" like other brands' hype watches?
I did notice that the sound quality was below our standard during this feature. It might have been that there was something in the background we were trying to dial out or just a calibration problem during the recording. We probably need some new sound gear, too. It's been a few years with this equipment. Best, Tim
Tom Gale once said that his car designs were intentionally love-hate. The ones who hate often buy the same number as people who merely "like" a design. The ones who love will buy. That seems to be the case here, because one of these sold this morning to a guy who woke up to this video. Best, Tim
Lamborghini and even Ferrari make more cars in a year than the number of sports watches Journe has built in a quarter century. Ford's F150 pickup truck costs less than these watches, but Ford sells over 100 of them per hour. Volume matters. Best, Tim
