All this time later and Red Light is still one of the peak examples of kpop craziness. There's nothing else like it - if prog-pop was an actual genre, that song would be leading the way.

Oh, I was thinking you were gonna do f(x) "Red Light", I did see some people ask for that 😅 This is a kpop classic though & one that people will reminisce about when saying "I miss old kpop." I like the choreo at the chorus with the hands moving up & the hands on hips cause it's easy for fans to imitate. Amber Liu (the one with the short hair) is from the U.S. and is one of the most down to earth & funny people you'll see in kpop.
There are commercial ads in this video because back in the day (when this MV was made; 2012) SM would advertise other stuff they had coming up in their artists’ MVs. Kpop fans got tired of it real quick but bc SM is so big and has son many factions under them (i.e. restaurants, theater/musicals, shopping centers, etc.) it would make sense that they’d capitalize on the viewer traffic they gained from their artists’ MVs and advertise whatever else they had going on.

Idk if you guys have ever reacted to SHINee (I can’t remember) but f(x) were created to be their sister group in which they embraced the electronic pop/EDM wave of music and presented an image of uniqueness and individuality that no other could match (which is often seen in their fashion/outfit choices and their music production). Also just wanna day that Amber isn’t necessarily a “punk rock” girl, but more so just a tomboy that dresses in more “masculine” attire on a regular basis.

Amber (the punk chick) Is the tomboy of the group. Actually in all of kpop, she is definitely unique. She auditioned as a singer but the company said she looked more like a rapper because of her unique tomboy look. But as the years went by she was given more singing lines :)
Yes, when she took a rap class with other trainees SM discovered that she had ability to rap. (She had tried out & been signed strictly for vocals.) At the time SM had a pop group in mind, one that would have EDM influences but also be influenced by many music genres, & whose concept would grow & change based on the members standing out as individuals (like the Spice girls, Amber said). That was really the experiment, done to get more international fans, because typically kpop groups have 1 overall style & sound concept for the whole band making individuals blend in to the group, & 1 gripe many foreigners had was that it was too hard to tell the members apart, especially in girl groups where they all looked & sounded the same. They had 4 girls ready for a group comprised of girls who genuinely had very different personalities, backgrounds, & looks, but none of them was good at rap. Amber had said she was personally interested in a mix of rock & pop styles, not just standard kpop, she had a distinct tomboy style since she is a sporty girl from L.A., & SM didn't have any other females that could rap that weren't already in a group with a more standard style, so with Amber's vocal control already markedly better, her dance skills had developed FAST (due to her sports skills), & her pronunciation of Korean in songs good, they asked her if she would like the challenge of a double role as rapper-vocalist in their experimental group. When she said yes, they immediately cancelled the rest of her training time, cancelled the plans to sign the other girls to the acting/commercial jobs they had lined up while waiting to find a 5th member, & officially put the group together to start choosing songs & working out choreography. So Amber is 1 of the fastest idols to debut, going from signing as a trainee @ 15 &1/2 yrs old to debuting the month she turned 17 (real age, not Korean age).

The "punk rock" looking member you mentioned is Amber she is American. A lot of kpop companies hold world wide auditions to find talent and she was discovered at a Kpop audition in California. She is unique because her style is a tomboy look which is very uncommon for kpop girl groups but that's what she is comfortable wearing and I'm glad they let her do that because she has received some criticism because Korea is still a conservative country.

F(x) Red Light has a lot of changes in the music that lots of reactors find very hit or miss, so I would love it if you would check it out to see if you like it or not, the choreography is nice as well, well in my opinion. 🤷🏾♀️. You should check it out!!!

f(x) are a really unique group, they've tried out so many styles of music and concepts that other girl groups could NEVER pull off. The arrangement of some songs take you on a trip cause they're all over the place, but I really respect them for that- their discography takes you on a journey with all of the different genres and directions they've taken. Unfortunately, they were always referred to as an 'experimental' group by their entertainment agency and have been pretty badly mistreated. Their company hasn't given them an album in over 3 years... My theory is that their company literally put them out their as a test subject to see how people react to certain concepts, to find out what works well and what doesn't and then use that information for their new projects. Not sure if you noticed, by they're from the company SM Entertainment (aka the biggest k-pop company with a great legacy, producing a shit tonne of legends). So they have the money and resources to pull off such an experiment whilst still making a profit. I honestly feel like from the f(x) experiment they produced Red Velvet- a girl group from the same company who also have a quirky concept similar to f(x) but they altered the formula to make them more girly to appeal to a wider audience. ANYWAY, you should react to: RED LIGHT! That shit is wild af, the composition will take you to places you didn't expect the song to go and just overall the visuals are gorgeous. It's such a solid comeback from f(x).

classic kpop~!! if we're doing 2ng gen girl group classics, i don't remember if y'all saw these but i recommend girl's generations "i got a boy" and "gee" which are great, "i don't need a man" by miss a, and 2ne1's "i am the best" which was even used in a commercial in the states a few years ago
Great to see guys that you reacted to fx, for me they are one of the most versatile groups out there for SM ent. (they are label mates of exo, shinee, super junior,etc). Also this video was made in 2012 maybe that's why you guys found the video so different and with commercials, including the choreo. Fx has a unique sound and every single song brings something new, you should check out more of them, so i would recommend red light for the next song. This year they are turning a 10 years old group, so is glad that you like them!

Hey fellas. I truly enjoy your reactions because 1) you no not pause. :-) 2) you know you're music from pop to soul to r&b ... you know musical talent. I would like to request a a reaction for a KPOP act.. but not in the pop sense... but in a Rhythm & Blues aesthetic.... This Korean singer was part of a competition show in Korea called Immortal Songs... what they do is have a bunch of popular singers from all genres compete in a singing competition covering different important and significant artists in Korea. The best singer to cover a song from that theme wins at the end. This show's theme happened to be Michael Bolton. For some reason he is VERY popular in Korea. SO back to Lena Park.. Lena Park is from Los Angeles. Went to UCLA then graduated from Columbia. Then she went to Korea to begin a singing career. She is very successful. I'd like for you guys to react to this song because I love her voice and her singing. Its amazing She has a nice raspy tone like Fantasia or Michelle Williams from Destiny's Child. It is so R&B and soulful I think you guys will really appreciate it. It's another side to Kpop. Not always bumping club music, but really beautiful songs sung by amazing voices. A Korean American, I believe, the only androgynous member of a girl group I know of, and has a solo career now. i can't stand Amber's (short hair) rap. She is always offbeat. It doesn't bother me as much in 4 walls, since there are so many beat options that i can pretend that she's just bouncing between them.
2/5 of the group, Amber (punk rock chick) and Luna (pintsized powerhouse) did a song *"Wave" with Euro DJ R3hab* Highly recommended. // Also great: *Luna's solo "Free Somebody"* // Amber has a number of recently-released English-language solo tracks; most of them are introspective and or thought-provoking (like "Borders"), *for more of a bop, I'd recommend Amber's "Countdown".* She's American, and more "tomboy" than actual punkrocker; she is unique in kpop and seriously freaks out many traditional Koreans. Including, I suspect, her management. She admits herself that while she's got good understanding of rap as a genre and has good flow, she doesn't consider herself an actual rapper because she can't freestyle.
Victoria, whose eyes you admired, has a solo track as well, "Roof On Fire". She is also a main participant in a Chinese TV show called Hot Blood Dance Crew, and believe me, she's got some _moves!_
Fun fact: Amber is going to be on an MTV show called 'Homecoming' with Girls' Generation's Tiffany and 2PM's Jay Park soon, a trailer dropped the other day. They're all US born Koreans that moved to Korea to be in Kpop. Y'all should do a full album review of f(x)'s Pink Tape. It's one of the more essential albums in kpop.
