F-Zero was a launch game in 1990 on the Super Famicom in Japan and the start of the popular futuristic racing franchise. The first installment in the characterized it by high speed racing that focuses on the players driving skills fully with no weapons of sort on the track. At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

(spoiler in my comment for those who haven't watched) This run was amazing. Making a hard game look like a joke. That jump shortcut, especially the one at the last lap was incredible. There was something inside me that knew he was going for it. I spent the last lap thinking, "Is he going to go for it?", then when he did, I was like, "Yesssss!!!".

Commenting 9 years later (!!!) shortly after FZero 99 got dropped out of nowhere. The take is that it’s alarmingly fun but just a taste of what we really want, and there’s a palpable hope (but not an expectation-never just expect Nintendo to do something that makes sense) that its positive reception will turn a few heads of decision makers at Nintendo and help get us a new proper entry in the series.

I thought I was the shit paying F-zero as I kid being with a father that's a gambler going from hotel to hotel I'm the 90's. why does he often go into the energy recharge at the start? e.g. 45:00. Seems like that would waste time.

That's actually why he does it, to waste time. It slows him down so the Blue Falcon/the car behind him can bump him sooner and make him go faster because of that. If he didn't slow himself down, it would take the Blue Falcon longer to bump him.

CooltrainerBret I'd argue that Fire Field is actually easier. Sharp corners are fun. Wind plus sharp corners is NOT fun.

CooltrainerBret Nice, some may agree but for me, Deathwind is fuckall, i hate it. At least with firefield you can pick and keep your lines.. for me death wind 2 is the hardest.

VestedUTuber Not only that, but there are also those dash plates that send you slamming into the wall and bouncing all around the track. They can work for you, but they mostly just mess with you. Yeah, I'll take Fire Field any day.

MetalSmasherGaming You're actually supposed to hit a few walls on that track if you're going for a fast time, as seen in this video. For me, it's more how the traffic interacts with the wind in sharp corners. Deathwind 1's traffic is bad enough. Deathwind 2 takes it up to 11.

+IsItModern the problem what i see on eu console there is best times up to 2:45 min possible with luck. And on US 1:50 min. I even had best time 1:52 min with Fire stingray on pc.

You'd be surprised how much work it can take to shave those precious milliseconds off. Many years ago, I reached #20 on the all-time list. It takes dozens of hours just to master Death Wind 2 and Fire Field, alone.

Damn, this brings back memories when I still had that beautiful SNES. Those delicious BGMs with top speed racing in glorious sprites and cool levels to race through. Epic run for sure, shit I probably couldn't do any of those tricks hahaha. Wish I knew how to fix a SNES.. Shoulda just search hard for it someday. Still have that cardridge ^__^

I really wish nintendo would at least attempt to give a new F-Zero game a similar feeling that this one had. The music is like none other anywhere else and the same can be said for the aesthetics. We can have next gen gameplay and still move THIS specific aesthetic forward rather than changing everything to metal guitars and techno. I'm not speaking against those as I know there is a place for them but if you listen to all of this music it's clear that neither of those had many places in here. Limitations can bring the best out of creativity. Just take Port Town/Silence in this game and compare them to their GX counterparts. Atmospheres became so bland and forgettable.

Music in a game exists solely to provide a player with a feeling that whatever is going on has some genuine tension, stakes, and/or emotion behind it. Yeah, maybe GX music isn't for all tastes, but it gets my adrenaline flowing when I hit the final lap of Aeropolis: Dragon Slope, gunning desperately for the finish line in a critical GP race. But hey, this game's OST does this well too. Death Wind's music sounds like the soundtrack to a torturous slog of a course, and Mute City is great "start of something awesome" music. Every other theme works, although I will say Fire Field needed something more like the soundtrack to Hell itself (it would've made a great Port Town or Silence theme, even if nothing was wrong with the default theme for those already). Soundtrack is still a solid A regardless, which is more than 95% of games can claim.

Aeropolis would be a great counterpoint to my post, as well as Mute City or even a few other GX-specific tracks. My point comes more from how lazily applied "atmosphere" is in a lot of the game. Perhaps I have a degree of rose-tint to my view on F-Zero (I'm a huge fan of all of the games btw) but if you ask me that's one suit Nintendo has showed NO shame in playing on time and time again (and often to great effect). Having F-Zero (original's) results screen music at the end of GX's credits (or was it X?) was PERFECTLY executed as it elevated the original track while not feeling like too much of a tactless deviation. What I think doesn't really matter in the end because they'll do whatever they're gonna do (which at this point seems like no more F-Zero games for a while), I will always just hope for more invoking of the spirit of the original, aesthetically. Gameplay-wise I love how they've been moving. I dunno why they won't entertain the idea of a WiiU F-Zero though, it seems like a great opportunity :\

+Fungorrr Out of 10 F-zero games, 6 of them are already in that style. Including the super nintendo games, and the game boy advanced games.The only 3D games in Techno rock and Guitars are F-zero X, F-zero X's expansion kit (Which probably shouldn't count as a seperate game IMO), F-zero GX, and F-zero AX (In which all of it's content is unlockable inside of F-zero GX). As for the Aesthetics (Which again, can be found in 6 other F-zero titles), were fairly simple. Wide open tracks with balls on the side, flat surfaces for tracks and scenery consisting of flat, moving ground and flat backgrounds of paint-on cities. Where's the newer games made more complex and dynamic track designs and, with GX, attempted to build futuristic cities. And for the music, while simple can lead to creatively designed music, less complex doesn't always make it better. Look at songs like Dream Chaser, Shotgun kiss, Planet colors, or Doctor Stewart's theme. All highly recognizable songs from the newer games where being complex didn't stop them from being catchy and memorable.

Ok, regarding Yazoo's donation... in the good timeline, we'd have a new main series F-Zero title and cancer would be cured. But we live in the bad timeline, where F-Zero is more or less dead apart from a 99 player Battle Royale game and cancer is very much still a problem.

I wish we could have seen how a F-zero would look like on the DS and 3DS. Probably something between snes and nintendo64. At least we know how the Mariokart games looks like on DS and 3DS. I mean It would have been interesting how the different F-zeros would look like on each consol. But we know it didnt sell well. Some blame the Gamecube didnt sell well. I think it would sell well on Swich. But the gamecube controller had better L and R buttons. I think a new F-zero will come after the F-zero GX port come. If it does though. Maybe year. 2027 hehe. Or a Redline game hehe. From the Redline anime movie. Maybe they can have both hover cars and wheeled cars. You can actually do this in GRIP combat racing. But I ended upp playing Sonic and allstar racing transformed + Wreckfest 3 years ago. And this year I played Mariokart 8 D and Hot wheels unleashed. Next I maybe trie to play some F-zero GX. Its many years sisce. Whipeout is also good. And Fatal Inertia for Ps3 and Xbox 360. It is now 2022 may.

@@8484tigger & Mori: not that i can go back in time and check my cartridge but I guarantee I beat some of these times as well, back in the day when i was like 14.. That is, on my very best record runs. Not on a one shot marathon run, in front of a full crowd, in front of cameras.. and definitely not w a host spouting off 10's of k's in donations w no reguard to my concentration. I would Love to see his best times thou and see how I stacked up against them. Thou, not as much as i would Love to have my snes n all my games (that i sold to 2nd hand shops for like 5 buck each when I was 'growing up') back. 😭

I have a new personal record (done on 09/15/21) for someone to attempt to beat. I did all 3 leagues on Master class and scored 90,000 points (no retries and one continuous play through.) I was so freaking nervous on Fire Field! Here was the breakdown. Knight League--29,900 points (I couldn't get first on the first laps of Mute City 1and Big Blue) Queen League--30,200 points (A small hiccup on White Land 1 cost me 300 points). King League--29,900 points (I couldn't get first on the first laps of Mute City 3 and Fire Field).

When I used to play with the console, I play this game, but once I tried to commit suicide by jumping and falling outside of the track (I don't remember which one, Mute City 2, I think), but I didn't explode, my car take live and go into the track by it's own like the computer does, and I was like WTF???? It was the console, so none cheats, I wonder if someone can explain that

This game was the first game i played on snes. Local video store had a kiosk and i used to play this every day in the summer till it reset the game. Great graphics, music and just an all time classic. Oh and 35.40....WTF!!! Dude!!!! Nice!
