Graham Hill's 5th Monaco win a record that stood till 1993 when Senna got 6. Also Graham's last F1 win, he had a very bad smash at the end of the year and was never a force in F1 again but did win the 1972 Le Mans, in addition to his Indy 500 win, thus becoming the only 'Tripple Crown ' winner
I love being able to see footage of old f1 or any racing really in this level of quality. It really does well to depict what it was actually like to be there. I envy those who got to experience this era of motorsports.
Great footage of great drivers! The lack of safety is also quite visible here. Photographers and track marshals are standing next to track like on rally stage.
I was there in '66, the year they made the movie. I think the people on the sidewalk are one of my most remembered images of the race. That plus the guy leaning out of the helicopter with a 4-foot telephoto lens. Lovely cars too!

Next year's race in 1970 also went to Lotus. Chapman built fast innovative cars, but he had a lot of very talented drivers driving them. Thank you for the video. I loved this era before racing slick tires came along. The cars were so much more entertaining to watch.
Great footage but I'm more impressed by the recording quality. Color 2" Quad recorders were just being developed and this was probably PAL or SECAM at that. It could be scanned color negative film and the European standard conversion added the motion blur. The reds don't show any banding at all which is great. Having a historic moment preserved with such quality is not common or easy!
great footage....different times.....i still got a signed card from Graham Hill in his indy car......we just wrote letters to the f1 stars back then and always got a reply with their fotos and signature......but i lost Jim clarks....sadly....

What happened to Hill's car? 0:32 and you can clearly see the rear "wing" fairing, 0:48 and it has dissapeared. Did he pit and have it removed? Did it fall off somewhere on track?
@@formula6033 Yes, I think you are probably right, fit it to test it for practice/quali, not risk it during the race or something. This was the first recognisable rear 'wing' in F1, if Im correct? Perhaps they were not 100% confident in it and reverted to tried and tested?
The large Chaparral style wings were banned after failures on Hill and Rindt's cars. The team may have been experimenting during practice or perhaps removed the aero assists during qualifying to reduce drag.
