2:28 I know F1 drivers are very close to the floor but I’m sure that they aren’t THAT close to it! 🤪😜 But seriously: Thank you very much for yet another fantastic video! I can’t put into words how much I appreciate them!

I’ve worked with foam a lot also and I knew of conforfoam but I didn’t know it was machineable. I love the nuggets of wisdom you pass on (the sellotape to prevent resin bleed for instance). A very experienced man who has spent a lot of time actually on the shop floor. Fascinating….

Such a great idea to show it with a helmet it really gives an idea of how tight and close everything is without the helmet it's just a strip of material pretty much it's hard enough to envision it all without the car. But the helmet was the really the winning idea.

These are customized for each driver like the seats, so I imagine that big “R.S.” at 18:10 must make this Ralf Schumacher’s FW24 T-car surround, no?

Brian, there's a old video of a Sauber F1 car cut in half and the foam they use is white memory foam that's a lot squishier than the part you have.

John, guessing it's for a cold country circuit so...or perhaps before the pink and blue foam came into play...who knows..

I've studied the cam lift profile for the V10 engine, and it appears to be using a modified form of a sinc, Bessel, or jinc function (or 2 of the 3) for each end. If that's the case, what were the challenges in optimizing the profile?

Brian any chance for you to get F1 piston compression rings and how do they work? f1 cars are working with crazy windage, compression, temperature and it's literally seized until the engine is hot.

I think you're about to say but I'm curious why they wouldn't want Closed cell foam? I like Closed cell foam because it doesn't crush all the way. It traps the air and gives extra cushioning, something you think they would want here. Maybe it's like the safety barriers you want them to crush to an extent. Would closed cell foam not have enough give? I like to use it because I find open cell foam tends to remain compressed after a while under load.( I realize this application is not a constant load situation.) Where as closed cell foam tends to bounce back and seems to last longer and retain its cushioning properties.

Fun the way you explain open cell foam and how the cells communicate with each other . I like to compare to a sponge. when you squeeze it, The water pushes out. In this case it would to the air.

They use open cell phone in chairs? that really surprised this me. Just surprised not that I'm an expert. I would think in a constant sitting (loaded) situation I would think the cushiony properties wouldn't last as long as close cell phone. Maybe there is better ability to control the sponginess? Of closed cell phone? Just a guess. I've used clothes cell phone in shoe padding.( I know it's not a race car) i find that very quickly like in a week Open cell phone is flattened down to nothing and never recovers. I have to use closed cell phone and it works much better and lasts longer.

I usually cut my foam with a Turkey carving knife. Yeah I'm on a much lesser level with this. I couldn't imagine they could actually cnc that design. I would have thought they poured it in and let it cure. Interesting detail about how they can't sharpen the tools too much

I remember back in the late 90s doing marketing research for a car repair manual company and someone was explaining. You can never find what you're looking for in the index so he grabs a manual and says for example let's see the distributor and he. Couldn't find it. It was the manual for the Aurora I think that was the first distributor less engine at the time. I was behind the one way glass laughing at him.

@@geniferteal4178 Nico Rosberg doesn’t know what a torque converter is, so I don’t expect that he’s able to explain much about technology (but I could be proven wrong). Nico once drive a Koenigsegg with no gears but just a large torque converter and he called it a torque motor and clearly had no idea what he was talking about. I couldn’t take him seriously after watching that.

@@Conservator. OK yeah that 1 to 1? I think has no transmission. I love how they explain why. Even at a 150 miles an hour you can break the tires loose. All you would do is multiply. What's already too much usable torque?
@Conservator.
@Conservator. Год назад
@@geniferteal4178 I think it was a Regera that had just a single gear. It does have a transmission but one with just one gear (but I’m being pedantic now;). Yes you are correct, adding gears would only lead to more wheel spin so wouldn’t be useful.
