@FrenchPropagandaV1RR Actually, the MP4-6 Honda engine did use vtech technology. The term "Vtech" only refers to variable valve timing, and the Honda grand prix engines used in the McLarens during the early 1990s pioneered this technology.
yes that was a great time of F1 with ayrton senna and alain prost driving this beast , ppl try to see the senna pole position lap in suzuka onboard on this same car...
Honda Honda, When are u gonna win again? I mean back in the 90's Ferrari wasn't even close other than in 92 when Prost almost win over Senna. But ever since 93~96 Ferrari was almost in it's darkest ages. I have that feeling Honda is going thru the same stage. And hopefully the nightmare will end soon!
@richrich27. That is correct, the engine on its own was 150kg. Porsche had their V-12 @ 168kg and was too heavy to compete in formula one. The facts were published in the auto course review of 1991.
Senna was actually quite disappointed in the V12 during early tests in 1990. He said it was over-weight and underpowered. Honda did increase power throughout the year and had a cracker of an engine for Suzuka in 1991 (when Mansell was challenging Senna for the title in the Williams-Renault). But, a lot of what these guys below have posted about the Renault V10 is true. It was a more "driveable" engine with excellent low-mid end torque.
this car was a responce to the renault/elf powefful combination. the renault rs series engine was significantly more effective than honda V10 engine so hond abuilt a v12 and put it on this car bt renaults dominance was stil unshaken, performance wise.
This is the Honda Ra 121 E, 60° V 12 Engine, 3.5 litres, 48 valves, about 710 BHP at 13.000 rpm What do you need to build a similar engine? A lot of money.... :) Try to ask in some Mechanical Engineer University for more information.
it's not impossible you know... it seems Mercedes could be splitting from McLaren and buying Brawn if Honda ever came back in F1, which I hope they do since they are as important to F1 history as any other engine manafacturer, they should come back only as an engine supplier to a top team
This is not the type of engine you can built on your own in a garage. This engine was developed by Honda HQ in Japan and is a one off special, after they invested millions of dollars in R&D, tooling the factory to build this engine by hand. The technology in this engine is beyond mere mortals, and can be lost to future generations if not taught. Formula One is the pinnacle of motorsports. That is why a comment of how to built this motor is out of the question. It can't be done again.
As someone else said. This and the car before it were the best F1 cars in the last 25 years. Nowadays its all pussy....What a sound from that majjic Honda V12. Best engine......beats what the italians and germans can make....

Let me tell you......... If you've never seen and heard these cars up close, you'll have NO idea how crazy loud they are...!! Watch a race without ear protection and I can guarantee your ears are numb, all day long........ Stay too close for too long and you may even have permanent hearing damage...!!
didn't mere mortals build it? Just slanty eyed mortals but I'm pretty sure they'd already have improved this if they could still run turbo v12's in F1 and Honda had a team. But it could be done.
